So no doubt you've all seen the Shovel Knight Amiibo leak... Well it seems to have appeared on a Spanish Retailer's site and lo and behold... Looks like Wii U is getting an exclusive Co-op mode! From the sounds of things though, it seems that the Amiibo works in both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game, so if it is not used to unlock co-op... what could it be for...

Ahh, good point. The Mario series Amiibo do indeed work in Smash... Shovel Knight's Smash Bros DLC might not be coming out for a while yet, if it is happening. Perhaps his Amiibo functionality is coming to Shovel Knight first and YCG requested their own branding to be put on the box (considering that he's gonna have future functionality in their upcoming games, it does kind of make sense for YCG to have that kind of control over the branding). Yeah, the floodgates are open for sure now. Yooka-Laylee is all but assured at this point. Shantae probably has a pretty decent chance too (and if Pixel went on to make Cave Story 2 like he's been hinting at wanting to do, I wouldn't count out a Quote Amiibo either) But still. No. Really. Shovel Knight is getting an Amiibo before the likes of Bayonetta, Bomberman, Simon Belmont etc. Let that sink in for a moment... What an honour!

Yeah I suppose, but I can't imagine it JUST being used for Shovel Knight right now (I know that it's due to be used in future YCG games, but I would imagine that it wouldn't be put out JUST to be used in Shovel Knight right now...) Still, Shovel Knight as the first 3rd Party Amiibo? Crazy! Can't believe that YCG could get it pulled off! What a success for them!! If this is real, then I'd say it's almost a dead cert. The first two PKMD games strip you of all the money that you carried into the dungeon and most of the items you were carrying when you died (it's random which couple of items or so you keep; no distinction is made between equipment and consumables in that respect). You keep the experience you gained though and are put into the same state that you were prior to entering that specific dungeon (sans the items and money you took in with you). Gates to Infinity is more lenient though and you'll only lose some of your money and items (too lenient for my liking). Personally I can see the appeal of the Shiren games, but I just simply don't have the patience for them myself. Far too much of a timesink. PKMD and (from the sounds of things) Etrian Mystery Dungeon seem just about right for me though

Because they've already held it back for too long as it is. It has had 6+ years worth of development and that's part of the problem. It has since become a bloated mess that lacks coherency, thanks to the long period of development hell it has undergone.

Sounds like you enjoyed it more than most. I take it that it's a sort of So Bad it's Good kind of game for you then? Well I suppose I'll find out soon enough, so it's kind of pointless asking really I get the feeling that it's being slammed harder than it should be because of the names involved. It's probably mediocre at best, but it does at least seem to attempt some interesting ideas along the way (particularly with the multiplayer) so it probably isn't deserving of the Devil's Third out of Ten title; however hilarious it may be. @S.G.C If you're still writing the review, please note your thoughts about the F2P junk in the multiplayer because that's something that seems to be largely absent from the reviews I've seen : peace:

Probably isn't then. A shame, cause they no doubt could've used it to smooth out some of the rough edges with this port... Still sounds like they've done a good job regardless though Too bad we'll probably never get it though

Is this game New3DS enhanced? Don't see why they don't take advantage of the extra system power to get 3D working or to restore some of the missing visual effects...

As cool as it would be, I can't see it happening. He's nowhere near high profile enough to appear in Smash. Maybe as a trophy (like Commander Video), but that's it. Not to mention that Shovel Knight has yet to see release in Japan either. Well he did debut on Nintendo platforms, much like Mega Man did... Yup! He is by far THE 3rd party character most deserving of a place in Smash! (and he got my vote in the Smash Ballot )

Plague of Shadows has been submitted to Lotcheck. Release date is due any day now. Insane that it's being given away for free! I would totally have paid for it without a single fuss!

No permadeath is music to my ears! I love roguelike gameplay, but I simply don't have the patience to start all over again from level 1 each time I get bumrushed to death.

That would truly be a holy grail release! Can't see that one coming for a good long while though...

Real shame that this is only getting released on the eShop in the US. I don't see why this gets denied a retail release while Devil's Third gets a full release; especially considering how this game makes such good use of the Gamepad - something that is a key focus of their winter lineup... Baffling

Because it's the Xmas season. It doesn't really matter if it comes out on the same day as Starfox. If a kid wants both, they're gonna get both in time for Xmas, even if they're not bought at the same time. For everyone else? Having them come out on the same day creates a bit of buzz about the Wii U platform as a whole - which may help garner a bit more interest in the lineup as a whole. At least, that's how I reckon their trail of thought is working out :p

Ehh, it's an ok ad. Nothing special really, gets the job done and that's about it. There's not much that really stands out as being particularly memorable about it. Some nice looking CG, but not one that anyone is going to really remember

I thought exactly the same thing. I wonder if they're actually gone for good now, or if they'll return next year... I definitely don't see them doing any more this year at the least. I miss them already

The Wii U lineup looks alright. There's a decent number of games out each month till the end of the year; even if it's arguably lacking a major guaranteed mainstream hit out of the lot. The 3DS lineup looks terrible though. Style Boutique 2 was a nice surprise, but they really did need more to flesh out the lineup. Rhythm Heaven 3DS or Bravely Second would've been nice... (Though I suspect that we're probably looking at March/April for those)
