Do you see your local cat population breeding out of control due to plentiful food supply and a lack of any form of natural predator? No?

I'd rather tell the idiot farmer to secure his coop better. I keep chickens. Zero fatalities to foxes (so far). Foxes kill for entertainment. There's times when they'll get in to a chicken run and kill every single bird without eating a scrap. It's fun The bin next to the house likely has far more tasty treats in it anyhow...
-
They will grab the fox by the scruff of the neck and shake it. This does snap the neck, but it can also result in the fox becoming disembowelled (and some times in the wrong order). The results get even more messy if the dog grabs the wrong part of the fox. Whoa, you've got me wrong here. I'm actually for lifting the ban. As I said, there's a tendency these days to shoot the fox and let it bleed to death because the hounds aren't allowed to go in for the kill. That's a much, much worse fate. I'd have preference to a more humane method, though one that can preserve the traditional sport.
-
Saw this. Made me laugh, a bit of John Cleese is always good They're a pest and their numbers do need controlling. Being shot and then ripped limb from limb by hounds really isn't the most humane way to go about it though. Not that the currently legal method of shooting them and leaving them to bleed out is any better. I'm not too up to date on what the suggested humane solutions are (if any exist).

Liking the look of OS 4, seems like the iPhone is pretty complete now. I'm not sure it's quite enough though. Microsoft went that one step further and nobody knows exactly what Google and Symbian/Nokia/Intel have up their sleeves yet. Simple. At the moment Apple have complete control over what software will run on the iPhone platform. Implementing Flash would surrender that control; a lot of apps that have been turned down from the app store could be re-coded in Flash and then embedded on a website. HTML5 is a safe bet for now. It's good for little more than video and (at a stretch) some animation. It'll be years before it's capable of creating Flash-style software suites.

Have you ever wondered how much it costs to canvas the country with these leaflets? Or where that money comes from? Labour essentially get their blank cheque from the Unions and the Tories get it from peers like Lord Ashcroft. The lack of such canvassing from smaller parties is simply down to the fact that they can't afford it. They can't secure huge backing because they are unlikely to get in to power and thus any large financial backers are unlikely to get any return on their investment. http://www.libdems.org.uk/siteFiles/resources/PDF/Pocket%20Guide%20March%202010.pdf That's the brief outline, with more specific details available on their site. It's not ordered in a "strongest policies first" way though, so you pretty much have to read the whole thing to get a measure of what they plan on a national scale.

60% Lib Dems, 20% Tory, 20% Green for me. Weirdly chose the Green's policy on Europe and the Tories' on Enviroment. Economy, Democracy and Education were all Lib Dem policies. I didn't bother going through policies on the other topics, they aren't ones that matter much to me personally.
-
Amen to that. To be fair to them though, get rid of Willian Hague as Shadow Foreign Minister and they don't have a bad party. Same could be said of Labour with Brown though I guess... So your whole vote is based on a hatred of the PM and the belief that all parties are equally shit? So you choose to vote for the Tories? And you think that is an effective Democracy? To me that simply says that the democratic system in this country isn't working. Must we really have yet another government that gets elected by appealing to voters discontent with the current government? Why can't we have one that is actually putting a message of change out there? One that is focussing on what it can do for the country rather than what the current government aren't doing right? I'm not sure that the Liberal Democrats are the right choice, but I'm definitely swinging that way. Voting is a choice, not a pub-quiz where you need to guess the next party in power correctly. If you actually believe going from a Labour government to a Tory government is the most positive move this country can have then you have my respect, it's not my place to tell people how to vote. However, I really hope that every Tory vote is actually for the Tories and not just against Labour, otherwise the people of this country are handing their Democracy away for yet another 4 years.

http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/20-002-Intel-Core-2-Duo-PC-95p378.htm Sounds like it might be a better choice for you. The E7500 will easily keep up with the 8800GT and it's a lot cheaper. I'd look to upgrade the video card and buy an SSD before going Quad, both offer far bigger boosts in performance (unless you do CAD, video editing and other stuff that stresses the processor a lot). Upgrade the PSU though, a no name 400W PSU will be fine for the base system, but there's no guarantee that it'll last once the 8800GT is plugged in.
-
If you're confident to do it then buy your own RAM and upgrade it yourself. They want £72+VAT to upgrade the RAM, which is more than 2x2GB sticks cost in the first place without taking in to account the value of the 2x1GB sticks. The rest of the upgrade prices seem pretty reasonable though (more expensive than buying them separately and installing yourself, but not excessively so).

http://www.onecompare.com Personally I'd pick the Legend over the Desire. I've had a go of both now and the Desire definitely runs smoother, but the Legend just feels amazing in the hand. Cold, solid and beautiful. Battery life is a bit poor on both devices, with the Desire being a few hours worse than the Legend (which has an oddly low battery life considering the battery capacity and lower spec hardware). As for internet bundle, I've never gone over the 512MB Vodafone one in the 18-months I've been with them. I've only used 985MB in the three months I've had the iPhone. That's with a lot of web surfing, RSS feeds, email, music streaming through Spotify, and a few videos on YouTube.

Pretty much every site that looks at AV software rates Norton highly, usually top 5. The reason it's hated isn't because it isn't good, it's because it's a proper, professional-level AV program. It's resource-heavy. You're a lot less likely to get a virus with it installed vs most other AV programs though, one of the highest detection rates in the business (and unlike McAfee it doesn't throw up false positives all the time), however it is overkill for a home system. A light, free AV package and some common sense are good enough.
-
Norton is actually one of the best, but it's a bit overkill for a home computer. Personally I use MSE: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ Decent detection rate, low resource use and the lowest number of false positives of any free AV software. Basically it's a case of install it and forget about it. On the down side it's not good with malware (so it's a good idea to have something like Spybot installed as well) and virus scans are slow (due to the low resource use). Avast is better, but it's also more invasive and uses more system resources. AVG doesn't stack up to either.

I'll be up for a blast in the morning some time (make it afternoon, doubt I'll be awake in the morning). See if we can get 4 from here?

Depends what you're looking for. The Nokia 6303 Classic is a great classic style phone, owned one for a few months and it's really quite impressive (Build quality puts mobiles at 5 times it's cost to shame! Solid, cold metal). http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile-phones/review/2010/03/08/Nokia-6303-Classic/p1 HTC's Tattoo is pretty cheap now; http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/11718765/HTC-Tattoo-Android-Sim-Free-Unlocked-3-1-Megapixel-Mobile-Phone/Product.html?&_$ja=tsid:11518|cc:|prd:11718765|cat:Mobile+ http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile-phones/review/2009/11/09/HTC-Tattoo-Android-Smartphone/p1 Not used one myself, but seems good for the money. Sony have the X10 Mini on it's way too. Rumour is around £200 sim-free, but release date is sketchy at the moment. Could be a while...

I moved from T-Mobile to Vodafone and certainly can't complain. Better signal (just been upgraded again as well), better CS, better price plan. The only thing that's actually worse than when I was with T-Mo is my data allowance has gone down. No real issue though, I've never gone over 512MB. Even now I've got an iPhone and I'm streaming music and YouTube stuff I've still only gone through 850MB over 3 bills. The best operator is very subjective though, all of them suck for coverage in some areas and all of them have customer service horror stories. Check the coverage maps, ask people you know and go in store and ask them to show you how much signal they have on their handset (the manager in the Voda store was happy to do this when I joined, though I think he just wanted to show off his handset :p). Basically, go with the one with the best coverage local to you, rather than whoever people recommend on here.

I don't like the Desire. It's a spec sheet in a rather unappealing case that's too thin to fit an adequate battery inside. The Legend looks great, apparently feels well made (going on impressions from people I know who used it at CeBIT), has good battery life and it's still a powerful phone. I get the impression HTC actually though about this one.

Happy Meal is ageless: no decay in a year on a shelf

I wonder how long it'll take them to get this on Blu-Ray in the UK? Still waiting on Generation Kill (DVD is out, Blu isn't). Sky Movies HD will have to do for now. Shame, because I bet it'd look amazing! Roll on April 4th.
-
Saw this on Google Reader: Play. It's actually quite scary! This Happy Meal is one year old. Yes, it was bought a year ago and it's been sat on a shelf all year! No decay. At all. I knew McDonald's food was shite, but this is a whole new level! How do they do it? It's like magic! http://www.babybites.info/2010/03/03/1-year-happy-meal/

It's amazing how much I've forgotten. Can't remember how to do the single player levels and I got my ass handed to me in multiplayer. Damn...

Pirate Bay? There really is no hope for some people, is there? It's £7. Seven measly pounds. They've had it on sale as low as three quid.

Try checking Carphone Warehouse for the Milestone. They started stocking it at the start of the month. Gonna jump on the WinPho bandwagon in September I think. I'm sure there'll be teething problems, but so far it's basically a list of what I'd want to see in a phone. The iPhone has pretty much killed off my "no multitasking" worries, it only annoys me with Spotify (which I'd dump for Zune Pass anyway). I grabbed the dev tools today and they're pretty good, best I've used for a mobile device anyways. I might pick up the HTC Legend in the meantime, it's the only thing out that actually looks in any way interesting (can't really say the Desire appeals to me tbh).

My brother picked up a Sony DSLR after a lot of debating last year. Can't remember the model, but I think it was the A300? No idea what it can/can't do, but he seems chuffed with it (this post is probably no help at all, is it? :p).

mobilephonesdirect have it on T-Mobile at £25/month for 18 months + £5.99 for the handset. You get 300 mins, 300 texts and Web&Walk, or 600 mins, 500 texts and W&W on a 24 month contract. Not a bad price, actually beats buying handset only! Still no hardware QWERTY though. The iPhone has taught me that touchscreen keyboards are a crap idea. It's not that it's difficult to type on, it's the loss of screen space to the keyboard. Not being able to see what your typing properly because the keyboard is in the way (or not being able to re-read whatever you're replying to) is lame.
