  1. I'd go with any of those PSUs tbh, but the Seasonic ones are the best there, followed by the Tagan. I looked at PC Option myself but likewise i saw a lot of bad press towards them and the website didn't fill me with confidence. They offer a good warranty, but what use is that if they are bust in 6 months! I've ended up deciding to build my own, it's supposedly not all that hard if you buy the right stuff! I'll tell you next week if this is true or not...
  2. 1. Unless you are using a 24"+ monitor you won't need the 640MB card. Even at 24" performance is apparently close 2. 500W will run any single graphics card configuration. 600-700W for dual graphics. The Corsair PSUs are supposed to be very good, basically go for anything that isn't they're basic 700W PSU. It's unbranded rubbish and costs about £15! Good PSUs start at £30 and go all the way up to stupid money, £50-£60 is apparently the ideal though Post the choices on here and we can help whittle them down 3. Not a great difference between DDR speeds. PC-8500 (DDR2 1066) is overpriced and only really for heavy overclockers and performance freaks. PC-6400 (DDR2 800) is the happy medium, it will overclock nicely and isn't all that expensive. PC-5400 (DDR2 667) is the cheapest you should consider now, it's very good RAM but it won't overclock very far. It's good for saving money if you don't want to overclock. Also, another point that might save you some cash. Todays most powerful CPUs are held up by the graphics cards in games. Buying an Intel E6750 or Q6600 might sound good but you'll see maybe a couple of frames per second difference between them and an E4400! Heck, a recent benchmark showed a Celeron D 440 + 8800GTS keeping within 1FPS of a Core2Duo E6700 + 8800GTS in F.E.A.R.! Bare this in mind when choosing a CPU. Im not saying you should get an E4400, it probably won't last you. But the more expensive processors are usually a waste of cash too unless you do a lot of processor-heavy tasks
  3. Nope. It rocks! *waits for an appearance by a certain Hitachi salesman (he must be!)*
  4. I should have worded that better. I meant you can't install OS X on anything that isn't a Mac, i.e. anyone that is buying OS X is either upgrading or has lost their disk. This makes the OS X disks closer to upgrades than a retail OS. The hacks part was a reference to installing OS X on a PC You still read them though :p I have an excuse, im supposed to read them...
  5. Yeah, to be fair i am. But thats what stopped me from buying a similar TV. I post a lot on AV Forums and most people seem to have this sort of set in the living room and a cheaper one in the bedroom. I began to figure i was going a bit OTT, especailly with a 42" Panasonic Plasma downstairs! I roped my budget in to £600 then decided prices were falling to quick and went off to look for a new PC instead...
  6. Are you talking about the standalone OS price here? OS X costs £80, yes? http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/116448 Vista on the other hand is £118 for a boxed retail version, or £52 for the student edition (both Home Premium, the main SKU). So this makes Vista overpriced by £38? Yes? Wrong! If you are buying the Tiger disk then you already own a Mac and a copy of OS X. It cannot be installed on any other *type of* computer without hacks. This makes it an upgrade, not a retail boxed OS. A Windows CD on the other hand is far more valuable as it can be installed on any computer, PC or Mac and you don't have to own the OS in order to buy the OS Sorry for pulling the thread off track again, i just had to point out that little oversight in the comparrison
  7. I'll put mine up next week, will have my new computer by then For now theres only a dodgy laptop, computer equipment, beer bottles and empty crisp bags (i slob out at my computer, and i cba to clean atm).
  8. When my laptop had a working battery and charging circuit () it did about an hour tops!
  9. You'd need an x1950 to run Crysis on any decent settings (unfortunately) TBH you might be cheaper with 2 systems if you really want PC games. You can build a cheap AMD system with a x1950 XT or 8800GTS for under £400 (base unit). Just buy a cheap AM2 mobo (£35), AMD Athlon X2 4400+ CPU (£55), 2GB PC2-5400 RAM (£55), 250GB Samsung Spinpoint (£38), DVD-RW (£18), 500W Antec Smartpower (£30), Case (£30) Total: £261. With an XT = £381. With an 8800GTS = £431 It'll perform smooth as silk in games. You no longer need a good processor, just a good GPU because most games run off the GPU now. Then buy a cheap business laptop for doing work on. Yup, but that warranty can be voided TBH i actually have a good case to claim a refund under the Sale of Goods Act. Im currently looking into this, its a recurring fault caused by bad design and therefore the laptop isn't fit for purpose Just got to hope it works out now...
  10. I meant most people would be lucky to have a set that good in the Living Room, never mind they're bedroom! The LXD700 is a redesign of the LXD70, better looks and sound but picture quality is the same.
  11. Vista can run on 256MB RAM, it's just a lot better on 512MB (what i use). If you want i'll go remove a module to prove the point? So theres no Aero? Big deal, the Aero touches are beyond anything in OS X anyway, they're competing with Beryl (linux) Anywho, down to the point. Those articles aren't very good. They take a Mac and look for a PC with the same screen size, processor and price and, when they can't find one draw the conclusion that Macs are better value. Macs are good value but that ain't the way to compare them, raw specs wise the PC has Apple bent over a table. The Mac value is in the build quality and bundled software (both of which are good!) The origional Media Player has more codecs, Microsoft had to make they're player more incompatable in later versions (can't remember why, prob the EU or something) so they came up with the plug-ins idea and just let other people add the compatability to media player instead. People still use Media Player Classic because, like VLC Media Player it will play almost anything
  12. I've still got it :cry:Less than 2 weeks to go now though! Moria, i really hope you don't have the same problems i did. Laptop repairs are bloody expensive! Only advise i'll give you is not to close the lid as little as possible and when you are closing it hold it near the hinges (reduces stress on the joints). Its £120 a time if the lid breaks
  13. Very nice set, a little expensive for the bedroom though! If you're looking at the best 32" LCDs around now then try the Sharp LC-32RD2E or Sony 32D3000. The RD2E is probably the best bargain around at the moment but it has no component input. Or wait a month or 2, new sets are on they're way in September/October The Samsung. Sony U series sets are pants... In fact, heres a list of sets to look out for (should help everyone): Sub-£500: 1. Samsung R86/87/88 2. Toshiba 32C3030D £500-£700 1. Sharp RD2E 2. Panasonic LXD70 3. Toshiba WLT68 4. Panasonic LMD70 £700+ 32" Sony D3000 32" Panasonic LXD700 This is pretty much the ordering of things (based on 32" versions), with 1 being the best. All of them are very good sets though. I've not put any Philips up there because they just released new sets and i don't know enough about them to rank them (i've been slacking off and reading about PCs instead )
  14. People said the same around the PS3 launch and nothing particularly spectacular happened. The 360 has been at a really great price for months now, heck that Boots deal i posted ain't even the best on they've ever done! I wouldn't wait in hope because you really could be waiting forever
  15. http://www.myitablet.com/dont-freak-out-when-the-iphone-accelerometer-doesnt-work-021053.php The accelerometer doesn't work when the iPhone is either horizontal or near horizontal. I guarantee it, it's a flaw in the tech itself (i.e. it uses gravity) As for the features the N95 has over it: 1. Proper syncing with Microsoft Outlook 2. Video Recording 3. FM Tuner 4. Stereo Bluetooth 5. GPS (the N95 has google maps as well) 6. 3G internet access 7. Bluetooth/USB modem (i.e. connecting you're laptop to the net via the phone) 8. Replacement battery 9. 3rd Party Apps I could go on, but you get the idea. The iPhone is a mainstream entertainment device, the n95 is a business device. Most people used to using business phones as business phones would crack up at points 1, 6, 7 and 9. All 4 have become standard business tools that have been around for a fair while (the N95 just did all 4 very, very well) Anyway, my point all along has been that other than the GUI the iPhone doesn't bring anything new (and useful) to the market. The brilliant thing is that the GUI is so good it allows the iPhone to get away with being a very underpowered mobile phone.
  16. That ain't strictly true. The Hitachi is 720p but i can display up to 1024x1080i using ALIS picture processing. It will handle 1080i but not 1080p Cracking set though! If i had a spare £800 this would deffo be on my short-list
  17. Don't get 1080p. It's only good in situations where HD footage is in the majority because it increases the defects present in scaling SD footage to 720p Basically, it will make Wii and TV look worse for minimal gain Also, burn in is no longer really an issue. It's an urban myth
  18. http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1081325 Use the promo code 'PJDH77' for another £10 off making it £239.99 for a Premium 360, 2 wireless pads, PGR3 and Live Arcade!
  19. Think im gonna play some 360 tonight, it's not been on in about 3 weeks lol
  20. Well if it helps i was looking at the AOC a few months back. I then saw it at a computer fair and felt that it looked and felt cheap (build quality wise). I can't comment on picture quality though, it wasn't switched on All i can say is that it put me off, it was £400 at the time though
  21. I used the N91 for a year, so i know the phone inside and out. The N95 on the other hand i borrowed off my dad for a week. Also, it'd be unfair to compare the N95 to the iPhone. The N95 is a business phone that does so much more than the iPhone wheras the N91 has similar functions and a similar target audience. You do know the iPhones accelerometer doesn't always work right? It's also garaunteed not to work if you hold it horizontal or near horizontal. A button on the other hand just works Ok, fair enough. I might have been wrong, can't check because i broke the phone a few months back :cry:I do remember using YouTube on it though But none of that was where my problems lay with the Prada. I said in my post that due to lack of buttons to feel you actually have to look at the keypad to type everything! It might not seem like a big deal but it really annoyed me after a few days. Theres no way the iPhone can be different as it's an inherent problem in the idea of the touch screen. I could live with the faults you listed above, this on the other hand i can't live with. As long as they don't start tacking touch screens onto every single phone i'll be happy. The iPhone will do nothing but good for mobile phone operating systems
  22. LCD is better for HD (i.e. you're 360). CRT is better for SD (i.e. you're Wii) Generally speaking though, CRTs don't do HD. Samsung have a HD Samsung set but the current models are rubbish. A good one has just been released in America though (getting rave reviews), with a bit of luck it will make it's way over here Plasma is generally seen as the middle ground
  23. It's more likely to be the cables than the software
  24. Like a USB stick? Or are you after one that plugs into you're phone?
  25. Doesn't exist m8. To the best of my knowledge the smalest Plasma you can get is 37". Any lower than that and you're looking at LCD or CRT Whats you're budget?
