Dude...your niece is a robot? Awesome. Also, cool tour, the voice was very unexpected. I expected it to contain more americanisms for some reason =p

You lost your virginity when you were 14? Dang

Hmm, I have the same TV as you JonSt.

I don't like shit eaters. Other things: I'm 20 years old as of last Sunday, of course, that in no way should be taken as a measure of my maturity, I'm prone to doing all sorts of stupid things. I've been known to suffer from mild cases of wrath, although this seems to have died down since I got to university, where you occasionally get to deal with intelligent people. Uni is also where I met my...well...spouse, seeing as we did drunkenly get married in front of witnesses =p. The legal documentation is curiously absent though. Anyway, I'm at QMUL uni in London doing an English degree which I'm enjoying very much, even though I'm a lazy fuck and barely do any work. Funnily enough, I moved to this country when I was 7 and barely knew a word of English, lived in various shit towns until I was 11, when I moved to Manchester, and went to Manchester Grammar. I took English, Biology and Chemistry for A level (as well as Art, which I dropped because it was too much fucking work), and got pretty good grades (AAA). I like knowing things. I like to have a fairly broad knowledge of subjects, even though I'm a student of the arts, I take a big interest in Sciences. The fact remains that I'm fairly ignorant of most things though, which I hope to change. Oh yeah! I've been playing guitar for about...6 years now. I like to imagine that I'm a fairly good player, when in actuality I'm a talentless douche . Ok, I'm bored.

Lol, actually I just meant the fact that it was so awful and nonsensical that trying to understand why it existed almost gave me an aneurysm. Yeah, I've heard that MvA is supposed to be good, gonna go see that with the ladyfriend. Will be back with impressions.

Dear god man, it was a joke. I've practically called everyone on here a douchebag at some point. When someone releases a work of art, it's existance in the world is a constant. The only variable in the interaction between that creation and the person consuming it is the person themselves. Of course, I believe in the democracy of interpretation as much as anyone, but the worth of art is measurable to a certain degree. Boundaries do blur, I mean, who is better at their craft, Jeff Buckley, or Nick Drake? That, in my opinion is where subjectivity becomes part of the equation. Bah, whatever. Utterances. All you've said here is pretty much irrelevant. So what if she shouts abuse and claws at her vagina? I'm not interested, unless shouting abuse and the clawing at vagina somehow made it onto the recording for the express purpose of being listened to and consumed as music. You've not actually approached discussion of the music itself. What the fuck is going on here? Why are your "facts" not even remotely justified?

I don't know you personally. For all I know you may in fact, not be a douchebag, unlikely as it may seem. Well, the thing that's wrong with Paramore specifially, is that not only are they pop rock wimpyness, they're bad writers too, objectively speaking. So you have to have an amazing propensity to tolerate immensely spastic (in a bad way...not in a DEP way), badly placed instrumental work to actually enjoy them. Now, for example, if you cited Fall Out Boy for example; they are the the definition of...well...so many things, but at least they know how to write a catchy hook, and can structure a verse/chorus/verse song without much trouble; thus they are tolerable.

Nah, don't worry about it. Most people here are familiar with my diction. I don't mean to be a cunt, it just comes out that way =p.

What Happened To NE The Past Few Weeks?
The Bard replied to ReZourceman's topic in General Chit Chat
It's cause I've not been around -
Kinda gives me a headache. But then, the last 3D movie I went to see was My Bloody Valentine, so that may have been the cause.

But don't you think the fact that HoD isn't as widely read as HP is pretty much testament to peoples attitudes to begin with? My point was, one is easy going but is ultimately a fairly contrived soap opera, and the other is really pretty difficult to read, but actually leaves you with fodder for thought. And by thought I mean of things with actual significance, not the banalities of plot minutia, and pointless pontification. Similarly with music, and to use Paramore as the example; they're fairly embarrasing, disingenuous, thoughtless crap, filled with melodrama that you can probably bop along to if you're...well, a douchebag. They rely on nothing but the isolated cliches of the genres of music that they're derived from. I've always felt that music is supposed to be evocative or create a mood. It's not just there to sound "pretty" all the time. In keeping with my previous analogy: Paramore are like a shit book that continually asks you to suspend your disbelief without any kind of payoff, just the sense that your time has been criminally misspent. To be fair, I do like/have liked some fairly dire music, and I'm perfectly fine with that. The difference is that I know it's shit and I don't take it seriously. I think it comes from the fact that when you're young, like early teens young, you become attached to certain types of music because you feel it adds to the whole idea of your "identity," and as such you feel that it's uniquely important to you. So if people begin to flock to it if it becomes popular there's bound to be some indignation. Anyway, most people grow out of it, because it is pretty fucking tiresome. You know...people on here are such hypocrites, they say shit will be all boring if people all have the same tastes, yet whenever anyone says anything negative about something that they enjoy, they say "why are you insulting me." Of course, this ties into what JonSt said about people and their tendancy to hate a band or a song once it becomes popular, and my reply to it. When I say a band is shit, I'm not insulting you. If you feel that a particular band is so intrinsic to who you are that any affront to it equates to a personal slight, then you are, quite franky, a buffoon. If people didn't call bullshit on each other from time to time, we would probably still think the world was flat.

Not a great argument. To use a fairly overused analogy, ask 100 people what book they prefer, Harry Potter, or Heart of Darkness, 90 people will say Harry Potter, but that's because most people are unintelligent, lazy douchebags who are unaccustomed to the idea of art as anything other than something to fill an idle hour. But then, I suppose you could argue that different people listen to music for different reasons. Either way, you should at the very least be able to defend your tastes, and show that some thought actually went into them. If you can't then what the fuck are you doing on a forum? You know, the whole point of which it is to actually talk about things, rather than make some banal statement and pray that some forum member with a similar taste lavishes you with a reply. Yeah, I suppose you could post whatever self important, masturbatory top ten list you want, but you probably shouldn't be under the impression that anyone actually gives a shit about it. Zwaaa! Paramore are fucking heinous. I'm trying to think of some witty way to make them analogous to fecal matter, but I'm running dry for some reason. These days, everyone seems to think a few palm muted chugs and trite overly dramatic choruses can pass for music. Well, anyway, listening to Crack The Skye. Musicians who's flatulations contain more musicality than Paramore's lifespan of output will.

Well, they both kinda suck. If you want an awesome remix, get the Ratatat remix of Party and Bullshit by Biggie Smalls. Of course, that was a fucking ace song to begin with sooo...

Baroness are the definition of heavy metal to me right now, dear god, can't stop listening to the Red Album, the incomprehensible wails, pounding riffs and elaborate harmonised leads put me in such a headbanging, yet airy mood. One of my favourite bands to get high to. Other shit I've been listening to: High on Fire, Bloodbath, being the philistine that I am only just got introduced to Enter The Wutang, and sebastiAn.

Not played this for ages. Anyone game this weekend?

That was adequately glorious. Ah, you don't get good old fashioned burns like that anymore. Sorry..forgot there was a topic to this thread. Yeah, I'll be getting this, but not for a few months. SF4 is still taking up most of my 360 time.

Sometimes I actually fuggin love being ill. Bought Chrono Trigger for DS on Saturday and I'm already 21 hours through it. Totally reminded myself why I love this game so damn much. I mean, cutesy as it is at times, that's what makes it all the more charming, everything about it is just so damn endearing. It's a good thing Chrono Trigger isn't a woman, because she would be very very pregnant right now. In other news, cheers Dan, for introducing me to Mogwai! Something interesting to listen to on the train tomorrow.

Just found out that I have glandular fever. Yay. Now my friends are gonna avoid me like the plague. The only consolation is that my gf will probably have it too.

Oh god, not another music thread. To be fair, it could serve as a decent place for the discussion of or comparisons between live and recorded music, rather than as a place for the kind of masturbatory lists that usually fill these threads, but that would actually require some effort or forethought, and this is the internet. Anyway, as much as I'd like to continue beating you over the head with my cudgel of self-righteousness, I'm running on nothing but paracetamol and no sleep in the past 24 hours, so instead of complaining, i'll actually contribute: I like live music. Going to any ordinary gig, what you typically expect is a somewhat stripped down, rawer version of what you heard on record. Which is great, since I find that my attention span is siginificantly reduced when I'm watching a gig. It's just that being amidst a crowd of heaving, sweaty, intoxicated, and often times flatulent people (which is half of what separates a concert from a recording) isn't conducive to my wanting to hear a 27 minute prog piece. Also, I tend to enjoy a lot of music live that I wouldn't really care about on record...like, say, Every Time I Die; hilarious band, great presence, total party music, but pretty shitty in any situation other than in performance.

Yeah, but the location of my balls, as well as my penis length are directly correlated to my prowess at Street Fighter.
