How's y'all getting along with your reading? I'm still gnawing away at the Iain M. Banks stuff. I would say they genuinely get better and better for the first four Culture novels, thyen the next one just completely blows open the possible direction the books were going - then the one after that -- Look to Windward -- hints further still and supra-universe stuff that just boggles the mind. Culture-wise, I've got Matter and Surface Detail left. If anyone is interested, the Culture books can generally be read out of sequence as they are rather self-contained and (mostly) do not have shared characters. I am willing to send people one of the books if they wish to whet their appetite - otherwise I would highly, highly recommend recommend reading Player of Games or Use of Weapons first. The first book (consider Phlebas) isn't bad, it just isn't as great as the rest that follow.

Thinks like this are things I love to sit and contemplate, perhaps even dialogue with a like-minded friend and a bottle of the strong stuff. But they're not things I believe. It's all very well and good saying "if we took today's powers back in time then we'd be Gods!!" ... but 'we' could've said that 500 years ago. Even 2000 years ago they'd've appeard akin to Gods if they had taken their skills and tech back to 'caveman' times. I think it's perfectly healthy to let your imagination get carried away with theories like this, buuut let's not get all conspiracy nuts :P

Timesplitters 2 was all about those challenges - 64 platinums to collect, I think? I remember spending a good week in Wales amassing 32 platinums. Mmm!

I think you put too much blame on your friends being rubbish at going out. You should be more pro-active in meeting new people via other means - social clubs, events, activities... You shouldn't need to rely on other people to go out when, frankly, going out to get drunk isn't really where you're going to meet someone to suit your 'ridiculously high standards'. Friends of friends of friends. That's the way. If your circle is dry then that ain't gonna change. Take up a hobby. Learn a martial art, or go to real art classes. Cookery, carpentry, juggling, swimming. Join a running club. Join a board game club. No excuses!

I like to think I have a lot of patience, but surely if one is aware of their own ineptitude when it comes to seeing the full picture on a matter, they should at least try to acknowledge it when putting across their 'opinion,' especially when he claims that he welcomes constructive criticism. Here's a tip if you're reading; if you wilfully post bigoted ignorance (which you did, repeatedly), you're going to get people calling you up on it. If you choose to ignore any of the replies, choose to not see the constructive element of the criticism you received and instead focus on the fact that you're being criticised, then you're never going to get on well with... well, you can finish that. Shame Kurtle over-reacted, but his behaviour after the infraction (especially the main-site comments page nonsense) is too childish to even be bothered with.

Well if anything, we can see that Man U are still Man U - playing the full 90 mins. There's probably no other team in the league who have come back from behind as many times as them!

The average price is now $5.66 ... so I paid $5.67 for teh extra games :P Had a quick go at a few of them and I can't say I dislike any of them... oh, except for that crayon physics rubbish.

De Gea also hesitated with the first one. He has a tendancy to dive low, and it doesn't seem that he has all that much reach. He's good good dispersal of the ball but clearly he's dealing with some pressure here. Possession- and chance-wise, United ought to be in the goals by now. Interesting substitutions - not greatly threatening. I think Alex Ferguson is hoping that the guys he's brought on will feel that they're fighting for squad positions, and thus perform excellently. Nani's not been on form today either... So yeah! My bet is that man U will score in the first 15 mins, City will get a second yellow at some point and BLAM 2-2, off to pens again.

I'd confidently say my game's improved since this thread was first made I do tend to have good and bad phases - currently trying out an opening which has worked really well so far. Anyone want a game just join/log in to chess.com and search for jayseven!

Not true. You can sign on immediately after losing a job. NI contributions is hazy in my mind, but essentially you need to have x amount of years worth of contributions before being 'eligable' for your pension. It's nothing to really worry about right now, nightwolf, but I find it a joke that there are so many people I know who are unemployed and job-seeking that aren't signed on. The system is there to help you get from job to job. Not signing on now is no excuse to whine about having a hard time further down the line. Plus the job centre are actually a great resource for help finding more jobs- if you treat them with respect. In before 'lol you don't have a job' because fuck you. I'm giving unsolicited advice!

Kurtle Squad - I've not seen many posts by you on these forums that serve to paint you in any light other than "ignorant idiot." You just seem to be missing a basic ability to understand what other people are actually saying, and are quick to tar any communication with whatever you have pre-decided is their 'point', aligning seemingly the entire world to somehow cause/effect your own little trail. You're quick to blame others and quick to assume, seemingly especially when you have already admitted to having no knowledge or understanding or empathy at all on the subject at hand. You can't go from posting "woe is me, nobody loves me" to "stfu you female! I hate you!" ... It's just hugely offensive to the human race. It's offensive to this forum community that we have someone in our midst who is unable to unshackle their blinkers and actually hold a two-way conversation. You've genuinely put me off reading threads.
