4th wall breaking, sure I get that. Shafting the consumer, no. And anyway it's hardly the first time Zelda games have done things like this: NPCs telling people to swing the Wii remote to swing your sword, or the Tingle Tuner shaped like a GBA, or even a Yoshi doll in Link's Awakening etc....
-
I suspect about 1% of people who buy TP:HD are going to tap an amiibo to get extra arrows. And that's being generous. And even if they do, who cares. You must dislike an awful lot of AAA games these days. If you have a problem with Nintendo's version of day 1 DLC and the like, what the competition gets up to must drive you crazy.

900p to get a consistent resolution between handheld and console? Could be...
-
Wow, sounds utterly uncontroversial.
-
Third parties were fine with putting their games on DS cartridges. If they're readily available then why not. Cutting out loading times would be a huge benefit. It would also fit in with the whole 'play the same game at home or on the go' gimmick that's been rumoured.
-
As for the NX itself the gimmick better be a good one because I still don't know who's going to buy a powerful £300 ish console mid generation, apart from Nintendo's hardcore fans. Especially when that 300 ish quid could be put towards a VR headset.
-
They have to do a press conference. Their major failing atm is buzz, mindshare, and relevance. A press conference would provide all three. Nintendo have the opportunity to dominate this E3 and destroy Sony and Microsoft's stage shows. They HAVE to be there, live.
-
Yeah would defeat the whole (very clever) purpose of Streetpass
-
I think the same about my Wii U. Same sort of disaster sales-wise as the Vita.
-
And in the past season passes that double the cost of a game didn't exist either. But publishers need to make money somehow given the cost of games haven't risen since well, ever.
-
A large part? That simply isn't true. The amiibo challenges in Splatoon amounted to nothing. The main complaint I've heard about Battlefront is how there isn't enough content to justify the price tag. I just think it sucks that they're remedying this with the season pass that'll set you back the price of the game, a second time, and I don't think it's too contentious to compare and contrast with Splatoon's policy of free updates since launch.
-
58 million 3DS units sold worldwide, which is pretty extraordinary if you consider the rise and dominance of mobile gaming. For comparison, the Vita has only shifted 13 million.
-
Nicely summed up, I agree. I can't understand the Splatoon complaints though, the amiibo challenges were hardly anything to write home about. It was literally the exact same levels as the single player just using a different weapon. People who didn't buy the amiibo really aren't missing much.
-
5 maps in a 40 quid shooter is enough content? I hadn't heard about the free DLC, I'm not getting my hopes up, I suspect it'll be negligible compared to the 40 quid season pass
-
I know, I was the one raising Splatoon.
-
Quite a stark contrast between Splatoon and Battlefront. The former released half complete and was fleshed out with weekly free updates. Battlefront is charging you another 40 quid for content that should have been there at release.
-
This game is turning into a bit of a shambles, but by all means delay it to make it decent. It'll still look like it belongs on Wii though.
-
And then digitally unlocked in the two dozen other compatible games as well presumably, somehow? It's still a generous way of doing things. If you don't want the amiibo, put in the back of your drawer.
-
And vice versa, those who excuse the other publishers who do far worse, yet give Nintendo an earful for doing something ten times more generous. No one is questioning that Nintendo do pay-walled content (even if the vast majority are things like skins, costumes and in-game currency), I just think they deserve credit for their business model and how it isn't utter bullshit, unlike say Assassin's Creed Unity where you need to buy the companion app just to be able to open a treasure chest.
-
Did the Resident Evil day 1 DLC get you a nice little figurine to put on your shelf that also unlocks content in two dozen other games, with no doubt plenty more uses to come? I'm not arguing that Nintendo aren't doing similar to the competition, just that their business model is far more generous and unobtrusive. I don't think Nintendo get enough credit for their 1 amiibo for multiple games approach.
-
Let's be clear, Nintendo aren't doing "essentially the same thing" as the other companies. Locking a few extra hearts behind an amiibo is very different to charging people ANOTHER 40 quid to unlock a season pass with unknown content. Or pre-order bonuses that unlock extra missions/an hour of content not available anywhere else. Or day 1 DLC that's actually worthwhile (unlike what it was in Splatoon). Or those chests in AC: Unity that only open if you buy the companion app on your phone. Game prices haven't risen with inflation like everything else and do publishers need to figure out ways of charging people extra, hence the dodgy deals on PS4 and Xbox One and Nintendo's move into Free to play and amiibo. But in no way are Nintendo as guilty as the others at this, and bringing up getting a few extra hearts in Zelda as "pay to win" is frankly ludicrous; any excuse to have a dig at Nintendo, it's getting so tedious.

"Pay to win":laughing: good one!

I thought the tears of light portion were fine, they took ten minutes at most.

Not Syndicate, but my word AC Chronicles: India looks stunning. Visually mouth-watering! I'll buy it just for that !
