  1. Hey guys, Next week my daughter is taking part in Banardos Big Toddle, so we're looking to you guys to sponsor - just a little - for this worthy cause. You can pledge your cash at her page on the Banardos website. We hope you'll be able to pledge as musch as you can. Kind regards
  2. I quite liked the English voice work, however, it did seem rather quiet throughout. I adored this, its a little gem. I've been chomping at the bit for a 2D platformer, so couldn't resist. I'd have probably been slightly annoyed if it was released full price, but for £15 asking price, you really can't go wrong.
  3. Star Wars = Modern Day Gaming Curse? Free Radical, Factor 5. Coincidence? Surely not.
  4. In all likelihood Nintendo's big teams are working on next gen Wii. If it takes 3 years to develop HD games, that'll take us to 2011-12 a fair estimate for launch of a Wii successor. I don't expect anything from the likes of Retro, Monolith et al before then.
  5. Have no need. Mrs D bought me a manually operated penis enlarger last birthday. Its been used so much the handle's come off. Granted, it offers nothing to gameplay. But like a game's end sequence, a badge could be a nice little reward for doing something substantial, rather than opening a door, getting a point and thinking you are 'da man'.
  6. I'm not the biggest fan me achievements, they seem not to serve any purpose in terms of gameplay (at least from my limited knowledge of them). And if they offer nothing for gameplay, their existence must be (again, my opinion) to either be as a geek penis extension or artificial game padding. All that said, if Nintendo were to offer a gamer account, i'd like badges for completing games.
  7. Its far too late to win a good number of 'Halo fans' over- if they have access to a Wii, they'll possibly play, but to buy a Wii? Not a chance. If Nintendo had invested early on in deals for exclusive FPS (it was clear from the original Xbox that this was a lucrative market for Microsoft), it'd be a very different story. But Nintendo felt what the FPS fan needed was WiiSports or WarioWare. If Nintendo want the Halo fans (ie. gamers who follow up their console purchases by actually buying new games), they need to hit the ground running next gen- alongside Nintendo's big hitters, lets see The Big N money-hat exclusive iterations of GTA, Call of Duty, for release in the launch year.
  8. I have quite the opposite feeling. I expect it to be a slightly deeper experience than the original, but ultimately nowhere near the standard we'd like. It'll fit squarely in the market "the blowling game" made two and a half years ago. Thats not to say it'll not be fun, i'm sure it will, but i don't see it having a long term appeal to, erm, the more discerning Wii player- and that opens up a HUGE problem in my book: June/July WiiSports, EA Grandslam, Tiger, VirtuaTennis..... Wait..... November(?), RedSteel 2... Wait... Wait... Wait... For something Nintendo are promoting as 'the next step for Wii', the line up is tiny.
  9. A Metroid game, developed by Team Ninja. Delving into the Metroid and Samus back story, the game is a mature, refreshing take on... They're doing what? *runs around and around like a big queen*
  10. Did you see Scream 3? Garbage. Scream and Scream 2 were fantastic though
  11. Well, the old PC is totally screwed, it won't boot into Windows at all, just keeps going through asking for 'safe mode'... The new PC runs Vista, while the old is running XP. Was thinking of installing the drive as a slave on the new machine, but ran out of time...
  12. i'm assuming this upgrade is solely for urban areas? What'll be interesting is to see how this affects any Communication Providers who buy services from BT Wholesale on your behalf (unless your on, say 02's unbundled Local Loop), your services will still effectively be provided by BT.
  13. My parents recently had a new PC, the old PC simply turned itself off after just a few minutes (plus it was desperately old and needed replacing). The old PC was home to a variety of files, photos etc which they'd like to get back. The CD drive is not write-able, which leaves limited options to transfer these files. The easiest option i can think of is to link them by ethernet, but i'm not sure if the PC's will communicate with each other this way? Other than that, any other options that people can think of?
  14. Speaking for myself, i've definately not ignored the likes of Little King Story, Klonoa, Okami, Disaster, Madworld, Overkill but understand that Wii isn't gaining titles like Modern Warfare 2, Bioshock, simply down to its more modest power.
  15. Works perfectly well on PC, you have an entry level PC you get an entry level gaming experience, have a brand spanking new, state of the art PC you get a much improved experience.
  16. There's a bit of talk in the Wii General Discussion thread about a successor to Wii, so thought it would be time to bump this thread, especially since i've been thinking of Nintendo's aims with Wii and how these could impact any future hardware... Some a wish list, some guess work. Thoughts as ever... Turn it on daily. Nintendo have previously said they're giving consumers a reason to turn their Wii Consoles on each day. So, how can this be improved? firstly adopting broadcast and/or VOD television. Nintendo are tinkering with VOD at present, so thats telling of their desire to do multimedia but with a 'Nintendo skew', so what could that be? Nintendo could do well by integrating a TV channel to Wii 2 but will want to differentiate their offering. Now thinking of the functionality of a PVR, the Nintendo skew could be a TV recorder where Nintendo offers a mini EPG with set shows available to record but you can't watch them live (perhaps even charging the broadcaster to appear on Nintendo's TV channel). Remember (as far as i know), Japan does not have EPG services for TV. WiiSpeak 2. Offering Skype style telephony. With the potential of video chat via internet too. Softcore! Simplifying the Wii experience further (i'm still surprised Nintendo aren't pulling a Microsoft and updating the interface). Streamlined Menu. Game Channel (incorporating both Disk and VC/WiiWare), Nintendo Mall (incorporating a combined Nintendo and Shop Channels), Mii (Mii Channel, profile management) , TV Channel (as above), WiiSpeak (as above). Various tickers - acting as 'quick links' - giving the user up to date community info, whose playing what, new game releases, new TV episodes etc. Where are my channels?. The current utility channels- news, weather - become 'gizmo's', appearing not only on the main menu but also the in-game home screen. A vast array of widgets are being incorporated into TV's radios etc, and Nintendo needs to update their usability. With one or two exceptions, you choose which tickers appear on your screens. Hardcore! The bit for us. WiiConnect (finally). Obviously, i've mentioned the tickers above, remember these act as a simple lobby too- "Join LostMario in Mario Kart" or "Dazzybee's playing Zelda right now" ticking across the bottom of the screen, "Download World of Goo 2" lets you know whats in the Nintendo Mall or out at retail - and where appropriate a simple click gives you a seamless link to your destination. Abolish Friendcodes. Mii Card. A proper gamer account, for security validated by credit card details (perhaps). If possible existing FC's can be added discretely to your Card and automatically added (if your Wii 2 knows how to access the save file for each game, surely it could find the FC?). For those random encounters, a brief nickname is shown and the option to register as a rival is available (no communication with these folks though) Hardcore? Softcore? Its My Wii. Like DSi, Wii HD lets you personalise the experience. Personal Profiles Just like WiiFit, after turning your Wii 2 on, the first thing your greated with are your registered Mii's, click to open your personal profile. In multiplayer, choosing a secondary Mii (from your Wii or if a friend's their remote Wii) will always drag any stats to their appropriate profile. Meet Mii Your Mii can travel- to your handheld, phone, across the internet by Nintendo working with a variety of partners- imagine your Mii walking about on your phone or PC as a screen saver, or in your NE avatar! Events, Reminders and Messages Your Wii keep track of events and lets you know, birthdays, meetings etc. Mailing other users on your Wii too. Perhaps, if the DSi has a PDA it can be sync'd with your Wii too?
  17. Nintendo can't possibly loose this generation, so no. We've got some great games coming up (they're perhaps not all recycled 'next gen' FPS, racing etc), including hardware shifting NSMB and Monster Hunter Tri. The traditional gamer should also be taking notice with quality goods like Silent Hill, Red Steel 2 and Bethseda's project. There's a good 20 million unit difference between Wii and 360- thats like MS trying to sell the original XBOX.
  18. if you look at statements made before Wii's release, its pretty clear that Nintendo were heading down the HD route at some point, so a High Def machine exists somewhere within NCL. Do i believe that its impending? Well, we've got Motion+ which needs to firmly find its feet, a ton of new titles, so no i don't think we'll see a replacement anytime soon. However, could we see Wii HD as a 'premium' console? Quite possibly. There's nothing to say Nintendo would replace the Wii Remote- or any other peripherals in fact; the HD-DVD consortium were able to fuse HD-DVD and standard DVD on one disk, so the same retail disk could house both HD and SD versions of a game; and doesn't Metroid almost look too good for Wii? Nintendo are hardly likely to announce it now and loose 12/18 months of sales.
  19. I imagine there's far too much going on at Factor 5 to even think about a trade show, it also depends on their publishing partners desire to show the product. Rather than Pilotwings, i'd far prefer them to be working on Starfox (although, given it was the US Factor 5 who developed Rogue Squadron, i'm not sure their German counterparts would have the skills to do it well)
  20. Right, E3's been and gone. We've seen some cracking titles unveiled, some new info on previously announced titles. Things look great for Wii, in my opinion. So, lets consider our Most Wanted between now and Christmas (yup, lets for a just for a moment discount Sin and Punishment 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid:Other M)- what are your Wii 5 - the titles you're most looking forward too? Silent Hill The Conduit New Super Mario Bros. Wii WiiFit plus Dead Space
  21. As far as i know its still the 26th for Europe- at least all retailers have this date. I'm sure Sega officially announced that date and its not retailer guestimate.
  22. Are you refering to D-Rockets (haven't heard of them) or the team size, or something else?
  23. as i've said before, its towards the lower end of my expectations. Its a big shame, but each reviewer has a right to mark it against their own criteria. Yes, it seems harsh - and quite strange - given the positive comments, but you know, 7 is a reasonable score. I'll definately buy based on the comments and not the scores anyway. Of course, maybe Mr Metroid raises a good point. Did HVS and Sega fluff it with overhype, perhaps it would have been good to restrain the hype machine until now, right before release?
  24. noticed the Motion+ standalone was £17.99 - either gameplay or play. Can't remember now.
