Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!
david.dakota replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
It's no good blaming the press, Nintendo offered no clear message when launching Wii U. The press (as far as I can remember) did report this thing as a new console but the general public missed the point - because nothing seemed new. Same characters, same games, same name, same logo, same design language. Its hardly a surprise its bombed at retail. Its the same thing today, we've picked up on news not aimed at us. This conference was aimed squarely at investors, not gamers (and we're just filling in the blanks). If Nintendo want to stop this, they need to stop releasing tidbits of information within these investor conferences, or at least provide the information in a timely manner to its consumer base. How Apple works would be perfect, an event where products are announced which is directed at press, public and investors. I say Apple, but don't all companies make product announcements this way? -
Nintendo & DeNA Business Agreement - Nintendo on Smartphones

'spose it was inevitable. But really dislike the idea, Nintendo's IP is special, it never feels right seeing them on alternative platforms. I'm not convinced offering mini games really is an effective way to draw people into a home console, smart device owners prove themselves to be fickle, wanting stuff for free/cheap. Are they really going to splash £200 on a new console because they had a turd whilst playing Mario Candy Ninja? I suppose we will have to wait and see. I was always going to be critical of the move, a few exceptions aside mobile gaming is lowest common denominator pants. A joint "membership" service sounds intriguingly though. Linking your smart device acheivemnets with your NNID would be a nice touch, a common gaming profile across all devices. Perhaps this is confirmation that the new loyalty programme will cover smart device purchases too? -
Excellent, I was fearing that they'd not give us analogue sticks only gameplay.

Noticed IGN have said that the maximum microSD card the New 3DS can use is 32Gb - is this correct? I've just bought a 64Gb which may need to be sent back.

I think the biggest problem is that TV networks would never have fully committed to this, they want to create their second screen experiences, Nintendo could only ever have provided a layer of interaction. Coupled with limited hardware sold, a changing TV landscape, a mash of European networks and languages we were never going to get it. Changes to the US service could mean its a service to be cancelled there too. TVii could - should? - morph into a hub for iPlayer, Amazon TV or Netflix, perhaps partnering with Google for second screen info cards would be a neat idea too. They could develop a Nintendo TV 'channel' itself but that needs big investment. I think the idea of TV tag is probably the next big thing with social TV, so there's some promise there (but booting up a Wii U for this is not going to happen, phone/smart TV apps will do this better).

Here, this'll help

Heads up, CEX (and GAME under their trade in guarantee) will pay you £45 credit for Metroid Prime Trilogy. A great trade in price considering it's available for £8.99 on sShop soon. They'll also give Mario Galaxy 2 for £10 credit. You may need to remind any management in GAME that they promise to beat any local trade in prices

It seems like you're suggesting violent games are somehow automatically inferior. Thats simply not the case. Violence may not be your cup of tea but there are plenty of exceptional films and books which include strong violence and I see no reason why gaming should be any different. If violence is relevant, justified and truly considered it can be a super addition. I'd agree that most games, certainly the bigger franchise games, treat violence in a rather blase way, quite childish in fact - and that's not what I want from Nintendo.

Give then another try, they're especially nice on toast.
-
Call Amazon first, explain the price differemce, ask them to reimburse or you'll return it. They'll probably do a partial refind.
-
Not on Wii U. They'll no doubt shoe-in GamePad scanning which sounds like a terrible idea.
-
It's not the speediest of things. Usually they appear next day BUT I've had to chase Nintendo to update the purchases - Pikmin 3 took a couple of weeks to actually appear on the Premium site.

I think £5 per hour is reasonable value, break down some entertainment and leisure activities and you'll find they work out at £5 per hour? Is that not reasonable value? Perhaps we do feel short changed, we're treated exceptionally well as gamers - plenty of replay value across the board. Like I say, I'm not telling anyone how to play a game, but trying to excuse the length of a game by saying you'll play a bit a night is just nonsense. A six hour game is still good value. Pretty reassuring some of you are exceeding the 10hour mark. Like most Nintendo games I'm picking this up digitally. I see GAME are now selling codes but the game isn't available to buy on eShop - presumably the codes won't work yet?
-
Still don't get it. You might take your time with a meal (which is also good for your digestion, folks) but gaming isn't really comparable. You're still playing a six hour game, you're not adding to it by contemplating the last six levels between plays. You savour a meal by slowing down, you don't slow down gameplay in the same way. Toad is a short game, so what? Why artificially stretch this gameplay? Play it, enjoy it. If it's done in a night, so what? It's value is still comparable to other modern media. If feels like we're excusing it's length, well don't - it's not necessary. Short games exist (don't fall off your seats, but they do!) and they're not a dirty thing, they're not gnawing the cocks off animals - they're just short and there's no need to disguise this fact. I'm not one for telling you all how to play a game but, really, the idea you can "savour" a game by having 22hour breaks between plays is nonsense. I don't expect I'll enjiy the game any less because I'll play through it in a couple of days, maximum.
-
How does this help you "savour the experience"? Regardless of whether you play 6 levels a day or blast through the lot it'll take the same amount of time. Its a short game. Get over it, don't make excuses just enjoy the bloody thing.
-
@Serebii, it's indisputable that this had a shorter development than Zelda, Mario or whatever. I'd be very surprised if this had a full 12 months development. But that doesn't make it a bad - or good - game. Personally, I think @Wii is right - it's perfect for eShop. An eShop only release may have been more profitable, lower overheads etc. A retail release had probably bumped the price up across the board. Who knows? But then Nintendo may bebplaying a long game and reposition Toad as a stronger individual IP - difficult to do digitally. Again, who knows. But none of this really changed the quality of the game, but its fair to discuss whether theres value in this as a retail release (as it was a decade ago when Luigi's Mansion released).

For those worried about stock I wouldn't worry too much - I'm concluding that things will sort themselves out in due course. Since Wave 2 has launched there seems to be a quite a few Marths and a few villagers hanging around locally.
-
Not sure if this has been mentioned earlier - I've only just noticed. The Mario Kart TV website has been overhauled, a new profile page, time trails along with uploaded videos.

I think we can all agree (and those who don't will come to agree) that Captain Toad is a fucking terrible F-Zero. Of course, I'd rather Nintendo give us F-Zero or new Mario Galaxy but we've got Toad, it looks a fun sideshow. I don't think it'll blow anyone's mind but does it need to? I think its undeniable that Captain Toad has had a pretty quick development - but is that wrong? It's seems a wonderful small-idea game. Perhaps a little criticism could be made on Nintendo's reliance on it's established IP, but since the very idea is deeply rooted in Mario 3D World that's maybe a little unfair. I was originally a little worried it would be a little thin (and let's be fair, it probably is compared to lots of other stuff), but its getting some good reviews for what it is; a platform puzzler.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. No. I was in my local GAME earlier, they're still charging £14.99. They do include a free bumming though (whether you want it or not).

Peach is amazing. This comment didn't go down well at home for some reason.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
david.dakota replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I've been hoping that they rested Zelda a little longer, aside from the combat, Skyward Sword was the weakest in the series for years. I feared the series needed a break.. However, after seeing this trailer I'm glad no one took any notice, it looks great. Of course, the world needs more to it, and that's a huge task (GTA feels sparse, even with Rockstars 'prowess' at open world). I'm sure we'll see more stuff populating the world, but Hyrule could still feel barren. -
Unless you're able to provide proof you requested a physical product, you're really going to struggle to get a refund/physical replacement. I suspect unless you're able to provide proof, they'll argue its your error. Once they send the digital download code thats it, no refund, no exchanges. It might be worth contacting Nintendo Customer Services; they might be able to check if the code is used. Might.

Anyone know if Amiibo are region specific?
