  1. I love pixel art. If anything, I'm tired of developers sticking to the limitations of 8- or 16-bit. I'm currently playing Neo Geo games ("24-bit") that look much better than the retro indie games now. 2D games continued into the 32-bit era, and many of them were superb (eg. Sega's System 32 games). Or at least aim for true 16-bit coin-op quality, not the consoles! Making 2D sprites out of pixels was a true art form - actually having to work out how many blocks to use, rather than hand-drawing it and then scaling it to whatever resolution you're using. It's one of the reasons I like the look of Owl Boy so much, as that does look like pixel art made for modern times.
  2. Amazing. The Blanka one is actually quite heartwarming!
  3. A few other ideas... 1980s: Swing Out Sister - Breakout Scritti Politti - Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin) 1990s: Chaka Demus & Pliers - Tease Me China Black - Searching Ace of Base - All That She Wants Take That - Pray Aswad - Shine (Not sure if reggae's allowed, but they make me feel like the '90s so much.) Those last five really take me back to being 14 or so at the local roller disco!
  4. Oh yeah, Blue Monday's a superb choice.
  5. Some '80s suggestions: Chaka Khan - I Feel For You Wham - Everything She Wants Howard Jones - Like to Get to Know You Well Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World
  6. It's a shame because genuine 2D (without all the polygon fluff), well-priced eShop continuations of Street Fighter, Final Fight, Ghouls 'n Ghosts and Mega Man would be brilliant. Sticking to the retail business model for such games isn't going to work.
  7. I actually do that a lot, but more with eShop/Virtual Console games. Since I've owned the Switch, I've bought six Neo Geo games just to have a bigger library to play (thankfully most of them are good). I'd definitely be much more reluctant to do that with a full-price retail game, but it's not out of the question. With Ultra Street Fighter II, I suspect the game is good, but reviewers have had to mark it down hugely because of the price. If an eShop-only game is overpriced, you can be reasonably confident that it'll soon be reduced. Unfortunately it seems like Capcom were determined that USFII be a retail game, and filled it out for the sake of it, rather than make the game and set the price afterwards.
  8. I still love the look of it, but when you consider you can download an SNK fighter for £6.29, this is just too much. All I wanted was the 2D game with the hand-drawn, HD overlay.
  9. Releasing a demo was a smart move for this game. It's very solid, and I feel myself getting more and more hooked. I just don't know if I can justify £49.99, that's all.
  10. Owlboy looks gorgeous - proper 2D pixel art that aims for the 16-bit look (at least). Kingdom Two Crowns looks strangely intriguing as well. Is Dusty Raging Fist a vs. fighter or a scrolling brawler?
  11. Oh, I still like the idea of common tech standards. Shame about the last part though. I actually did have a Saturn with a 60Hz switch. Marvel Super Heroes looked spectacular in full frame (I didn't have the memory expansion though) and Street Fighter Alpha 2 is one of the Street Fighters I've enjoyed the most. Gorgeous visuals, both of them.
  12. A demo? That's brilliant news. I'm intrigued about the series, but undecided about this particular game.
  13. I don't understand why (presumably decent) games aren't allowed. What exactly are they asking for other than space on the eShop?
  14. I didn't enjoy the show that much, and haven't done for the past five years or so. I'm just not really feeling it any more. 2008-2011 were my kind of years. It didn't help that San Marino weren't voted through. Jimmie Wilson has a fabulous voice, and the song was stuck in my head all last night: As for "celebrating diversity", I felt like that came from the Eurovision organisers, and wasn't exactly present in the implementation. Portugal was a nice lullaby, Sweden was catchy and the French girl was gorgeous. A lot of the songs were decent, it's just that I wasn't in the mood. We needed a cracker like Armenia 2009: And I miss the eastern sultriness of Turkey. Come back, Turkey!
  15. I finally beat Rugal in King of Fighters '94, but didn't even get the end credits or Game Over screen. What a let down! [spoiler=] Not sure if it was because it was on Level 1, or I changed teams (beat him with Mexico). Oh well, not sure I can take going through it on Level 4 yet. Onto the next one!
  16. San Marino and Lithuania are my favourites. The male singer from the former is absolutely fantastic. EDIT - Bah, some good ones miss out in these semis.
  17. I enjoyed Half-Genie on Wii U, but probably won't double-dip... [TWEET]862729616787558400[/TWEET] ...Wait a minute. HD Rumble? HD Rumble?! I'm in!
  18. That certainly provides a bit more enjoyment. On a side note though, the more I hear about the DLC, the less it sounds like preparation will stand us in good stead (apart from having 30 hearts). That's an excellent point. Dragon Quest, Etrian Odyssey... there's always a main game and a post-game, and it always feels enough. By comparison, Breath of the Wild's post-game does feel aimless.
  19. Thanks dude. If there's one thing I haven't got though, it's rhythm. I know it's random, but while I'm talking to you, did you ever beat Rugal in King of Fighters '94? It's driving me crackers.
  20. Portugal is definitely good, and not just because of the singer. The music really stands out.
  21. I thought there was a pretty high standard last night, although I miss Turkey. Thought the voters were absolutely bonkers for not putting Montenegro through.
  22. Finally beat the Chinese team in KoF '94. Pretty sure it's meant to be a penultimate team (ie. you wouldn't fight them until you'd beaten all the others).
  23. And the console is really good. It's popular and genuinely great, bringing back some of the audience who weren't so keen on the Wii, but almost matching the hype. Really good job, Nintendo. : peace:
  24. Honestly, they were accidental. I also accidentally took loads of screenshots of the more boring other characters in that team, but didn't publish them. Yup. I'm hoping there's some sort of reward for getting to the end (if I do manage it), and also that you don't get penalised for playing on Level 1.
  25. I think the story is OK, but what it doesn't have is plot. There are no twists and turns, no changes of circumstances and no real drama. Still, this isn't a huge criticism, just an observation.
