I don't think the videos on the main Revo-Europe page are actually from the Wii version, they have some very specifically normal console controls shown on screen at parts and the aiming system is regular FPS aiming, unlike the aim anywhere on screen aiming we've been seeing so far with early Wii games.

Uh you do realise this is just them estimating prices though right? A big deal will be made out of it when there's an official confirmed price.

UK Software Charts (Updated every Monday)
James McGeachie replied to Konfucius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Good to see Nintendo games holding their position for once. In the past games that've done well have usually dropped like a stone after the first 2 weeks but games like Animal Crossing and Brain Training have been holding their own. Let's hope NSMB stays in the top 10 for a long time. -
I remember reading before at the moment this game still has the same kind of controls Red Steel and Metroid Prime 3 have, the ability to aim anywhere on the screen but with clunky turning. I hope they end up changing it though because I really hate the look of the turning with this scheme.

Kojima apparently likes to make games as cinematic as possible apparently so it's no surprise he likes to have a ton of power as well as unique control. There's nothing wrong with what he said though, there are truths to it. He probably doesn't see the 360 as even being part of the equation since he'll be thinking about the Japanese market so he's probably only talking about the PS3 like that because of its power alone. The fact is though Wii will bring a lot of new kinds of gameplay to the table, it also means we're going to be sitting with high end Xbox-esque titles for the next 5 or so years, so it's obvious the ideal system would be one with the new gameplay possibilities of Wii but also the long lasting graphics potential of PS3, that's common sense.

This isn't as big a deal as you think, when you heard about early next gen 360 titles and what not running before the hardware was finished you didn't hear about them running on updated Xbox's did you? No, they ran on PC hardware which was similar to the what the final 360 hardware would be like. In other words when games are running on hardware before the final hardware is finished, the hardware they're running on is usually close to what the final stuff will be like to give an idea of how the games will look. If there was a big difference between the Wii architecture and these "upgraded Gamecubes" then they'd have had the games running on different hardware to give a better idea of how Wii games would look.

What do you mean by the trailer looking fantastic compared the gameplay footage? Are you talking about the gameplay in the trailer or the graphics? If it's the graphics, then the simple reason is that it's a trailer, for a trailer they're obviously going to make sure they show footage that actually looks good. It's the same as the game looks now, without a doubt, they just didn't let any of the imperfections into the trailer footage, like the awkward aiming, unresponsive sword combat and since the trailer was much smaller than most of the gameplay videos, none of the not-so-great looking textures.

This is very random and very wierd...and completely unexpected. It's like he heard something totally offputting about Wii lately that's completely put him off Nintendo or something, this is utterly strange, I never expected this ever.

Pokemon footage confirms the ff:cc videos to be realtime!!
James McGeachie replied to goku21's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Confirms the FF:CC stuff to be real time? What are you on? This does nothing of the sort and the FF:CC stuff was blatantly CGI. -
New Tales game to be unveiled soon!! for Wii??
James McGeachie replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Why does Tales of the World have Tales of Symphonia characters in it? What's it about? The PSP isn't dead in Japan, it's selling as much as successful systems usually sell, it just so happens the DS is going far beyond the definition of a "successful system" in Japan at the moment. -
Your first Virtual Console download?
James McGeachie replied to Waylander's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The original Paper Mario, I'm not really interested in buying tons of games I've already played again this time so I'll try to focus on ones I haven't. Also I have a feeling tons of the ones mentioned in this thread aren't even going to be available. -
It could turn out these are just games with similar names though, although I'd like to hope it's the same Mercury because I've been wanting to play that.
-
It does make sense, because it seems they're keeping the architecture as close as possible to Gamecube's so they can achieve backwards compatibility without any emulation or need for additional hardware. I see no need to doubt IGN about the specs now when they've said they wouldn't report them if they weren't very sure they were authentic and now this recent press release fits in perfectly with their previously reported specs, which also make sense with the type of games we've been seeing on Wii so far. It has nothing to do with proper Wii development kits not being out until recently because usually developers aim for what they expect to achieve before they have a final kit.
-
The confirmed RAM stuff apparently fits in perfectly with the specs IGN had stated a while back, so for the people who're still non-believers about those specs you should start to reconsider your stance I think.
-
No offense but no matter how late it is, there's no excuse for a post as near-unreadable as this. I'm honestly not sure exactly what you meant but if it's just about using the remote in different positions around the TV then yes apparently you can play it anywhere because the remote detects where it's being held. About the weight though, I heard someone compare the weight of the remote to a DS before, although I'm hoping that's an exaggeration because it seems a bit heavy.

HDR is a fucking obvious improvement and anyone who cant see it in blind. It's obviously a lot more noticible in motion though, like any graphical effects, so if you want a fair comparison make some videos or something.
-
Bloom is not "HDR", it just happens to be used with HDR, read up the Wikipedia article on it. Anyway, pretty much confirmation on the thing with Xbox being able to do things Wii can't, from a new Red Steel interview. Whole interview is here but it's in French. Here's the translated segment: Jeux France is a very respectable site and I see no reason why a Red Steel developer who's worked indepth with the hardware would lie. He's not talking about GC devkits, he's talking about Wii.

haha, loving the fake pic being posted, I've seen magazines do that before though, either post fake pics are real or post beta pics as final (happened all the time with new super mario brothers).

Why are there so many launch titles anyway?
James McGeachie replied to mcj metroid's topic in Nintendo Gaming
you know, this may sound absolutely wierd, but somtimes I've wondered if sometimes publishers release DELIBERATELY bad games that they made in like no time at all, because they want to help a platform fail so they can focus on only one system. That's probably wrong but I honestly wouldn't be surprised when you see all these early PS2/Dreamcast looking titles coming out for Wii, with these lies that they're "truly committed" to the console and what not. -
Sorry but this is obviously a load of rubbish. There wont be any "switching over" projects from PS3 to Wii, because obviously the Wii cant handle anything intended for the PS3's power. If anything it'd be developers putting PS3 projects on hold and workiing on some little Wii ones instead.

New Tales game to be unveiled soon!! for Wii??
James McGeachie replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
It'll either be for Wii or PS3, but I'd say PS3 is definitely most likely. -
I dont get how anyone can say the screen with HDR looks worse there, without the water reflection and speckles of light on the stones and wall it looks completely empty to me.
-
To be honest it's mainly the speed booster I'd like third person for anyway, I really like the idea of running in third person, building up tons of speed then destroying all the rocks and enemies in my path just by barging through them. It's really hard to imagine how they could impliment the speed booster with first person, unless they just used bullet time as a substitute, but that'd blow.
-
I like the city shot, you can see way into the distance and it looks like it could be fun to ride down through it. It looks like huge draw distance was the main focus with the visuals in this game.
-
Yeah but you cant use it to jump off walls whenever you want, that's all I was talking about, only at those specific wall jumping segments on special walls, of which there's like 3 or so in the entire game of Echoes. The screw attack really isn't even close to as cool as the 2d equivalent (space jump and screw attack combined) either , you can't gain height, only continually go forward. It's pretty much useless for killing enemies too where as the 2d one can obliterate almost anything, hence why you always get it near the end. It could really only be done completely properly in a fully third person game.
