  1. People seem to have horribly short memories. No console's first year is ever that incredible, and the Wii's has certainly been as good as any other console I can think of (except for the DreamCast). The simple fact is that first years are always going to be full of mediocrety, it's just how it is. whatsmore, the Wii's was no doubt going to be even worse then most consoles. Apart from Nintendo I don't think anyone would have risked putting resources in the Wii, the console was supposed to be the flop of the century. Now we're entering the second year things are really starting to pick up, while we've only scratched the surface of 2008 it's already shaping up some pretty awesome looking games. The Wii now has the most exclusive games announced for it, and while the majority of them are going to poor, with quantity there is going to be a great deal of quality. Oh, and anyone who posts some list of incredible GameCube first year games, please remember that the console came out 9 months later in Europe then Japan, so our first year really consisted of 21 months worth of games.
  2. All Released in November: Geometry Wars: Galaxies Shooter 8.0 Nov 20, 2007 Ghost Squad Shooter 7.5 Nov 20, 2007 Link's Crossbow Training Shooter 7.0 Nov 20, 2007 Trauma Center: New Blood Simulation 8.5 Nov 16, 2007 Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles Shooter 7.9 Nov 13, 2007 LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga Action Compilation 8.0 Nov 9, 2007 Medal of Honor Heroes 2 Shooter 8.4 Nov 8, 2007 Super Mario Galaxy Platformer 9.7 Nov 7, 2007 Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Sports Compilation 7.9 Nov 6, 2007 Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Strategy RPG 8.0 Nov 2, 2007 WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008 Wrestling 7.5 Nov 1, 2007 Battalion Wars 2 Action 8.0 Oct 31, 2007 Manhunt 2 Action 7.7 Oct 29, 2007 Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Music 8.6 Oct 29, 2007 Fair enough, there is ALOT of crap there, but to try and suggest there isn't enough good games to go around for everyone is just BS. The list above caters to a wide variety of players. Nintendo can't do anything about the influx of terrible games, would SEGA make so many Wii exclusives if Nitnendo refused them permission to port House of the Dead of SEGA Bass Fishing? No they wouldn't, so just take the rough with the smooth like we have for every single console in the history of video games. Every month we see more quality titles released, and the 2008 line up looks no different. The PS2 had alot of junk on it (more then the Wii or DS) but I didn't see anyone complaining about them, hum.
  3. The Japanese market is changing, the days of epic 30 hour quests are slimming out and see their once huge sales being replaced by games like Brain Training, Animal Crossing, Nintendogs etc. There is still a market for hardcore games in Japan and whatnot, but it's quickly becoming the minority. As for PS3 sales being high this week, they recently launched a new SKU in the country at a lower pricepoint, as well as a big game release that week (Dynasty Warriors 6). They'll soon drop back down to normal size, but also I do think that alot of people in Japan are buying the PS3 purely as a Blu-Ray player. HD attatch rate over there is like 70%, and software sales are poor, so it'd be a good assumption that some people buy it for Blu-Ray and not gaming. Galaxy will sell well in the end, 3d Mario's have never sold particually well in Japan and Galaxy is on course to be the best selling 3d Mario ever in Japan. Equally Wii Fit will completely rip the market to pieces and will have that effect whereby it sells 10k units every week for the whole year, which is really what it's all about. The market is at a bad period at the moment anyway, but that's just a trend effecting every console which will go away as we approach Christmas.
  4. It's too soon to say stuff like that, Sunshine sold for a period of about 4 years, and at launch was nowhere near a 20% attatch rate it acheived in the end. I don't think Galaxy will have as high of an attatch rate as Sunshine had, but that won't matter once Wii hardware sales past GameCube's total. New Super Mario Bro's has sold about 13 million worldwide, so the appeal is there. I've no doubt Galaxy can appeal to the casual market the Wii is known for in the same vein that New Super Mario Bro's did, just it's not going to happen in launch week. Nintendo marketing campaign won't come into full swing until months or years after release, I mean NSMB still has TV adverts today. I think it's too soon to judge what type of people are the majority on the Wii. Twilight Princess has sold 4 million copies now, all the other Mario games have sold over 1 million copies. While I'm sure there will be people who only own Wii Fit and Wii Sports, equally Smash Bros / Galaxy / Metroid / Mario Kart are going to sell it to people who will buy Galaxy. With all the shortages and stuff chances are there are alot of people waiting to get the game who simply just can't yet.
  5. I'll join the tour group once I get it, thing is I've still got 120 star Galaxy, then start and complete RE4 (for the first time ) before I consider buying this. Add on the fact that Umbrella Chronicles is high on my want list, and I have some DS games I want to catch up on, I can see this being pushed aside for now.
  6. Hardware sales rose something like 125% from the previous week when Mario launched. I think that says it all as far as selling Wii's go. I still think Galaxy will outsell Halo 3 anyway, I always said it'd take a long long time period and this is only the beginning. Of course Halo 3 was going to outsell it at the start, historically both games sell in entirely different ways.
  7. It's sold 750000 in it's first week in the USA, absolutely amazing sales. It's already a million seller worldwide and no doubt has some huge sales left to gain from the Christmas holidays. It's also helped Wii sales surpass 230000, a much bigger rise then Halo 3 caused for the 360.
  8. How on Earth can people say this is too short? (Yeah, I know only one guy said it is). I mean, you're paying £30 for at least 20 hours of gameplay in getting 120 stars, and it's an incredible game throughout. It never gets stale, boring or anything. Would you rather a 60 hour game which is medicre throughout or somehting? :/. Seriously, 20 hours is an incredible length for a game, but for a game to pull it off without ever feeling stale or repetitive or monotonous takes something special. Oh and thanks for the spoilers, grrrr.
  9. Super Mario Galaxy has sold 70000 in it's first week's release in the UK (or 2 days), making it the fastest selling Wii game in history, outpacing Twilight Princess's debut of 68000 units. Source is starting to spread around the internet, bound to come up sooner or later. For now you can just take my word for it . Great sales figures though, and for anyone interested: Assassins Creed sells around 135,000 on Xbox360 and 65,000 on PS3 for 200,000 total sales Call of Duty 4 sells an amazing 120,000 in week 2 (290,000 total) on 360 and a total of 185,000 across all formats Super Mario Galaxy sells 70,000 this week with the biggest Wii debut on record, beating Twilight Princess's 68,000 launch. Brain Training sells 68,000 this week with massive DS sales all round.
  10. I know alot of people who said "I'll buy a Wii when SMG comes out". Now that it's out, they can't get it. My friend is a primary example . Obviously you'd still except alot of hefty sales, but it's bound to have an impact. Much like parents who are putting the game away for their kids at Christmas, or console owners who are just waiting till Christmas anyway.
  11. My Guessing is that Wii shortages are going to stall SMG sales for quite a while? UK sales charts never make any sense to me anyway, I swear Wii games always sell really low or something. Chances are it's sales will peak a few weeks before Christmas anyway. Hmmm.
  12. Megaman is heading to the Wii in an exclusive game according to the people I've asked. Obviously they can't shed alot of detail on it, and it's all a bit maybe but hey I'm sure it'll happen. I'd like them to give 3d a go, no point in making a 2d game on the Wii in my opinion.
  13. Up to about 26 stars now, and this is quickly rising up my ranks for the best game of all time. Everythign is just perfect so far, the music, the difficulty curve, the art-style, the controls, the sheer fun factor, EVERYTHING. It's just a game which makes video games fun again, something which I swear hasn't happend for me in a while. It makes me want to play it, just incredible.
  14. Got about 12 stars so far, it's been good but I'm yet to be blown away for the most part. The music is incredible though, undoubtedly my favourite part so far. I think I'm just waiting for the difficulty to be upped, so far it seems a bit meh finding things so easy. Plenty of time for it to ramp up though, there have been some pretty epic moments though. Sooooooooo, great so far.
  15. I think it's a joke review, or something. When it originally went up, it had a picture in the top right saying "Sponcered by Sony". Now there appears to be 2 links, one with that picture and one without. Still, it's obviously a satyrical review either way.
  16. Don't think I'm going to be playing this until Monday, at least not solidly. Going out Friday after work, got a date on Saturday and family meal on Sunday :/. Could get some play time in Saturday night or something, gah.
  17. There was a news story that Nintendo have been struggling to burn enough games to keep up with demand. Nintendo burn the games for every third party so when you look at the vast amounts of games set for release, it's believeable there is more games being made then what Nintendo can make. It's still a joke and whatnot, but at least I don't think Nintendo are doing it on pupose, why would they? It's not like hardware...
  18. efestivals yep. I don't recognise a Davey T though, although I might, maybe :P. My activity drops once the festival season is over .
  19. And In Flames and KillSwitch Engage. And some other Metalcore band I forget, wooo.
  20. Erm, I don't have figures but I recall Wii attatch rates to be higher then PS3's. More interestingly is that Wii first year software sales are greater then Xbox 360 first year software sales. I find it interesting, anyway.
  21. There was a story about how Nintendo are struggling to make enough discs to keep up with the demand. Bare in mind they make discs for third party games as well as their own. Saying that, I don't think they'd ever let Mario Galaxy be understocked. EVER. I saw a 1 minute advert of pure gameplay followed by a more 'casualified' one where you see the people playing. Was impressed, considering there are still 4 days to go. Nice to see they're adverts are pushing towards both markets as well, a 1 minute trailer of pure gameplay? Awesome.
  22. Definitely, probably be able to get it for £35, maybe even £30 if you're lucky. I'm still not sure whether I should pre-order. Need to make my mind up now.
  23. The Wii version is missing tons of content the PS3 / 360 versions have, namely 1000 lines of dialogue, the whole free-roaming mode and other stuff. I was considering getting it, but that is just too hard to swallow.
  24. Haha, someone has accquired the license to make an Eastenders game. I can't remember who though, but I laughed when I saw it :P. I think people need to lay off of Ubisoft, sure they make their fair share of shovalware, but Nintendo do too (Face training?). I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now, they were the only publisher even willing to put any faith in the Wii before it was a success.
