  1. http://www.vgchartz.org It's the best site for sales estimations. They're not going to be 100% correct but it's the best source you're going to find without paying the NPD $1000's to get the data. They correct all their data with official NPD sales when it's released and don't hide the fact they're not 100% correct. But yeah, best you're gonna find.
  2. I've sent an email asking for a review copy. God I hope I get it :P.
  3. I swear Fatal Frame 4 was confirmed for the Wii. Maybe it's been misinterpreted or something, going to need to see what happens there though.
  4. This game is really starting to raise up my most wanted list now. The style is awesome, and it seems like one of those awesome Japanese games where they don't put a limit on the creative expression given to the developers. Gonna be awesome.
  5. And they're like the most strict reviewers on GameRankings, so it was a given :P. Gotta say though, this game is getting critical praise from every major press site. Surely only Gamespot can stop the trend now? :P
  6. First day sales mean absolutely nothing. Jesus Christ, has no one seen the model Nintendo have for marketing games? They just keep their games in the charts for years and slowly rack up sales. I mean look at Mario Part 8, It sold about 400k in it's first week. That's a pretty solid figure, but it's been in the top 5 in Japan ever since and is still selling 20k plus every week. Mario Galaxy will just do that, except on a greater scale. It's clearly a bigger game in America and Europe (hence why here it's the number title, but Wii Fit is in Japan).
  7. They're certainly not that relevent anymore. Not as much as they used to be, they can probably still pass 1 million in Japan alone but compared to the games I listed (4.5m+) then they're not. Dragon Quest is the biggest RPG in Japan now too, God knows how incredible sales for DQIX are going to be.
  8. Final Fantasy doesn't sell that big in Japan anymore. Well, it still sells big, but not on the level of Mario / Pokemon / Animal Crossing / Brain Training / Nintendogs / Mario Kart :/. Just has the most dedicated and crazy fans.
  9. I just read the article, and am severely confused as to how people have taken it as a sign of bad sales. It's the first day, no, it's the MORNING of the first day where people have to go to work when it's raining. The game is going to sell fine.
  10. It's in a Japanese magazine so I can nay provide a source. Will try get my mate in Japan to do some scans if it's in English, but I won't be up late enough to speak to him until the weekend . Hopefully it'll break onto the internet sooner. And no, I don't think Zack and Wiki is hurting SMG's sales. I don't think anything will, it's been out for one day for God's sake, Jesus Christ.
  11. For me, Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask and WindWaker were all extremely different. Obviously they had the fundaments that you build the Zelda franchise on, but then the simililarities end there. You could so easily think they're completely different games if you weren't controlling the same guy in a green tunic. However, Twilight Princess was like a clone of OoT. That's what the fans had been screaming they wanted for years though, so what were Nintendo supposed to do? Make two Zelda games? Perhaps one which is like the old one and one which was more different like we normally expect? Oh wait, that's what they did :/.
  12. Seconded week sales have exceeded twice first weeks thus far. Sounds to me like the lack of advertising hurt the first week, but the word of mouth is spreading . I think the game is going to sell more then well enough for a sequel (based on hype / sales thus far) so we can rest at ease. Look at this, I haven't even played the game and I'm praying for a sequel :P. This game has just found a place in my heart.
  13. I see that as unfair though, because although they don't make too many new franchises, they don't ever seem to recycle their old ones. I mean look at Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy, same lead character, but what else is the same? The gameplay is entirely different to me, yeah you're still Mario running around, but that's about it. Metroid Prime 3 shook up the formula of the last two too, it was more to it's roots then Galaxy but it was still a shake up. It seems Nintendo are aware of this anyway as the Prime series has ended, I guess I just see it that although Nintendo stick to the same franchises, they never let them repeat themselves. The one exception is probably Twilight Princess being like Ocarina of time, but everyone really wanted that for years, so I guess people are never happy :P. Still, I'd like to see some more new franchises. The third parties have set up quite a few interesting ones already, but Nintendo need to follow suite. Miyamoto said they've got a new one coming in 2008, much in the vein Pikmin was to GameCube, so perhaps it's just a matter of when and not if :P.
  14. Sony and Microsoft haven't forgot about the casual gamer, just they're not currently in their plans. They both follow the same pattern of releasing the console at a high price-point to get the hardcore gamer crowd, and then drop the price down and slowly expand to get more and more casuals. As time goes by you will see more stuff from Sony to try get this market, but to be honest I think by then it'll be too late. See, Nintendo have completely rewritten that path of a console. Instead of getting the hardcore gamer, then working their way down the price points to get more of the mainstream, they've gone straight in with a console which has appeal to both hardcore gamers and the mainstream from launch. Moreso, they've put it at a pricepoint, given it suitable software and backed it with heavy marketed from the off, and it's working. So in answer, Sony and Microsoft haven't forgotten about the casual market, just they planned to leave them behind until they could get their price below $200. Thing is, it looks like there's going to be no market left as Nintendo are pretty much taking it all for themselves, while also adding new people to the market and getting a section (albeit smaller) of hardcore gamers.
  15. Well obviously, if company's make a game for the Japanese market the costs in bringing it over here are pretty minimal. Now the Wii is set to dominate Japan I'd guess we're bound too. I'm hoping for alot more RPG's and such, but really just game which shows Japan's focus on creative freedom. For me the Japanese based game are almost always more creative and diverse, and generally more fresh then what Western Studio's make, and that's what I really want to see. It feels like Japanese studio's create games in a different way to Western studio's, which is what I prefer. As for the training games and stuff, yeah we're going to see all them. However I'm a bit confused by your examples, because all the games you listed have always been successful in the West since they launched. Just they're more successful in Japan.
  16. Ohhhh, this threads temperature is rising already :P. Can't say there is alot to add at the moment, except the list o what I'd class as 'hardcore' (hate the term) games is already looking pretty sizeable and is growing weekly, so I can't complain. There's too many ifs and buts though, some people will tell you Smash Bro's is Casual, or that Halo is, or that Guitar Hero is hardcore, or whatever. What happend to games just being fun?
  17. That's just what I put in the article, not what the guy quoted. His quotes are in italics. And come on, waggling is far more hardcore then button bashing :P. EDIT: The italics didn't come up in my c and p, so I'll edit them in.
  18. http://www.consolegaming.eu/newspost.php?id=411 Well er, here we go again.
  19. You wah? The 1 million Resident Evil 4 owners arn't going to be interested in Resident Evil 5 or another mature game? Riiiiight... Not least to mention there are other 'mature' games which have sold pretty well. I don't even get your last comment. I mean, Capcom are as large of a company as Konami, and I'm pretty sure Konami arn't going to makes games the audience doesn't want or need :/.
  20. Bound to be fixed by European release surely? I mean all they have to do is apply the patch before burning the game. Definitely aint getting this on launch till I know it's fixed anyway .
  21. To be fair Monster hunter 3 is already alot of love. Oh, and Okami Wii too. RE4 was 'estimated' to sell 420k by Capcom too, so kudos to that. Here's hoping we can get some Megaman-love from Capcom, provided they make it good . Anywho, I hope it's not just Capcom who hear about the news. It's pretty dam incredible sales for the game and hopefully will get us some more mature games, and hopefully just some more adventure type games.
  22. Yeah as above, RE4 hasn't sold 1 million yet, that's just how much they sold to retail. BBA and MSCF are the same, all 3 are at about 850k - 900k sales to consumers, which is what really matters :P. Still, all 3 are bound to become million sellers, which spells good news for the Wii. Wii's first year software sales are higher then the Xbox 360's (and obivously PS3's) so third parties don't have a reason not to start making games ground-up for the Wii :P.
  23. I was quoting the wrong person. Anywho, it's gotta be a Dragon Quest Characters, I don't think any individual FF character is big enough to appear in Smash Bros (Except those 7 onwards... who were on Playstation). And I don't think Chrono Trigger is really big enough either. Would be great to have a chocobo assist trophey though lol.
  24. Has Cloud ever been on a Nintendo platform though? Which is the requirement for third party characters. So er, I'm gonna say the hero from Dragon Quest. Chrono has a good shot though.
  25. It feels like they're trying to fit as much as they can cram onto a 9GB DVD as possible. I'm sure there are no storage problems, but this game seems to boast having everything possible, and then more :P. One criticism - you should be able to rip MP3's off your SD card to play during a stage, but I guess that'd make sharing them and stuff harder to do. But still, if they turn submitting screenshots / levels into like an online competition, I've got some absolutely awesome ideas. Gonna be epic.
