  1. Not even going to lie to you Ashley, that was my no.11. Seriosly. Love the first half so much, that I know hardly any of the second half the album (except See Emily Play, obviously).
  2. This year only. Though I've had conflicting cources saying which year Yeasayer came out in. Well anyway, it was on Fopp's Best of 08 rack, so I'll pretend I was fooled. ... Yeah, just this year.
  3. iTunes has the year of each rack beside it. Unless it's not from a recognised CD or off a legal DL site... *suspicious eyes cast over N-E*
  4. Sorry, but Alex Maleev is fucking quality. He's awesome times 7. Saying it's not super-heroey isn't really legitimate, to be honest. By that definition, you'd want it to be kinda flat and Kirby-ish. Which, in my mind, isn't exactly great.
  5. Anyone up for "Your Top Ten Tracks of the Year" listage? (p.s, no multiples from the same artist) (p.p.s Give reasons, of some sort) 10. You Have Been Loved - Sia The whole of Some People Have Real Problems will forever remind me of the only time I've got completely wasted, which might explain my relative lack of listens to it. However, very recently, this song struck me agains with it's wonderfulness. 9. This Is Not For You - Blood Red Shoes Missed out on seeing them with my friends due to being away, really upset, as they have so much energy. Love all the songs on the albums, but this one sticks out. 8. Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) - Beyoncé Not an opus by any means, but one of the best pop songs in the charts this year, with an epic video. A phenomenon in school and (remarkably) my family. 7. Courtship Dating - Crystal Castles Sure they're the hippest thing atm, but that doesn't mean they aren't excellent. One of many awesome tracks, but I love the lyrics to this, and the facts they're really interesting, but you'd never know, as they're purposely obscured. 6. Wait For The Summer - Yeasayer Awesome atmosphere across the whole of the album, but this is beautiful and fun. I love atmospheric songs. Only got this recently, and it deserves LOADS more listens. 5. Into The Nightlife - Cyndi Lauper Only just got She's So Unusual, which is great, surprisingly, so I wasn't even aware she'd released an album earlier this year. This track is one of the pop/dance songs of the year, no question. Shame no one noticed it. 4. Gun - Emilana Torrini I keep meaning to get her better received debut album, but this is a striking track off her new album, Me & Armini. I can't enough of the distant guitar, and the "gunshot" at the start. Contrasts yet fits perfectly with the rest of the album. 3. Geraldine - Glasvegas Their album demands more attention, a lot of is still "samey" to me atm, but this song is great. I dig their wall of sound, phil spector-ish approach, and considering I hate the Proclaimers for their accent, I love the singer's voice here. Maybe I just hate the proclaimers because their music is crap too.. 2. My Manic & I - Laura Marling The quintessential Laura Marling track, along with Night Terror. Beauty found in both the simplicity of production, the stark voice, and the wonderful lyrics. She effing 19! Amazing talent. Rightfully nominated for the Mercury prize this year. 1. The Rip - Portishead Just... . So different to what they're known for (Their first 2 albums), loud, jazzy, more oomphy stuff, but this is just perfection. The build-up, Beth Gibbon's vocals ( ), the VIDEO, and then the "breakdown". ----
  6. I doubt our prescence affects the actual mass of material we live on, that much. he ozone layer/global warming whatever, isn't really damaging the big ball that is Earth, is it? It's just affecting us.
  7. Hmmm...I respect A Fine Frenzy, but it's a bit "Indie cutie-pie voice of an angel pretentious name" syndrome. And Goldfrapp make some of the most interesting dance/electronica crossover music, but the fact that isn't even their sole genre makes me love them so much. Really good at folktronica-y stuff too. But yeah, Twist. I've heard Whisper in too many other songs.
  8. Never got my parT, tonight, as no one who'd be there had their phones on, and I'm not sure where he lives. So I went to Division Music, intending to go back to the parT with someone who I assumed would be there (a convo with him over the phone made that seem clear), but he wasn't there. I left early to try and see I could find my way to the parT, but no luck. Then found out that if I'd stayed at Division Music, I could have at least gone to the "afterparty". Less fun people, a lot of fake-o's and pretentions abounding, but still, more fun than watching X Factor.
  9. I love it! I never knew it was like that!? I assumed that it would be like slow folky songs, based off the title...dunno why. P.S I love spoken word songs, too. Awesome, too much of it being present.
  10. JLS RUINED Hallelujah, however, at least Alexandra gave it some power. YAY at her winning, reassures me that the voting public still has some sense. She's a like a Leona Lewis that has a noticeable personality.
  11. I just had inspiration to write/direct a play/musical based around the world ending.
  12. That's the only "proper" PJ album I don't have, but this new one coming out will definitely inspire my getting the first! Also, Coolness; A Place To Bury Strangers are pretty cool.
  13. I missed the main show, can you gimme a rundown of songs sang by whom?
  14. I hate this kinda thing, as I have a mentally crippling fear of my own death. But I heard it was some formerly dormant volcano that will blow up soon, that'll kill half the world or something.
  15. I agree. It's my favourite, bar none. The Dark Knight is better, obviously, but nothing beats Returns in terms of actual enjoyment!
  16. Mac seems to me (a layman or whatever) to be a much smoother ride than Windows. Much more..pleasant. But I've barely used Vista (my sister has it), only like 2003 or whatever.
  17. On DVD. I left it off the list of things I wanted for xmas (my mum asked for), BECAUSE I was going ot buy it beforehand. Then I got home and my mum was annoyed because she'd bought it for me. Then she said my annoyingly insane dad has decided that I shouldn't ask for anything for xmas, and should just get stuff of his choice. We call his views on Xmas presents Globism, as last time he was allowed to do this, he bought us all globes... So yeah. "He can buy Cd's/DVD's himself" was his justification apparently...well yeah...but they ARE expensive. :/
  18. Going to my friend's birthday parT tonight. It's a parT to differentiate it from a partA. LIke a small group of people, rather than a rave-fest. But after I go to my school Division Music Competiton. My divisions is doing I Just Can't Wait To Be King, and for the whole of 7ths (the final year group, which I'm in), they're doing the Fresh Prince theme tune! Slightly legendary. HOWEVER, I discovered they're doing the Elton John version of IJCWTBGK, not the movie version. I'm mildly outraged at the fact that Zazou has been left out.

  20. Is there a (decent) art college/school in Sheffield? I need another place to apply, and since N-Europe seems to revolve around it, It could be so funny going there. Though the name reminds me of like sheep walking on hind legs, as though they were humans, having jobs and living in little houses. And the sky is always grey, but not even in the bad weather way. Also; a surprising lack of fields.
  21. Volver Actually a really good film. It wasn't mind-blowing, but I actually can't think of any faults. I don't think I've ever seen Penelope Cruz act before, she was great. Thought-provoking story, and quite funny in parts, despite being subtitled (a family friend said that it was a lot funnier if one watched it with an understanding of Spanish, but yeah). Really good. 9.5/10
  22. To be completely fair; In the unquestionable words of Cyndi Lauper; "Just like a train, you let all my friends come over and eat."
  23. More like Triforce is just the secret *counts* 6th (!) Dodd child.
