The Santa Fallacy and its Hazardous Effects on the Minds of Youth
Paj! replied to Serebii's topic in General Chit Chat
Oh of course! Chidren need to hear about this! What an outrage! Children around the globe will abandon Christmas after this revelation breaks out! They'll be really annoyed at the social elite and Coca-Cola for creating this development-stunting demon in 'Santa Claus"! BASTARDS! The children will surely rise up, realising that the current experience of "Christmas" by the western world is in fact a blight on society and a terrible deception, and they would grow up far better without it. Children don't give a shit, Diageo. -
*dark clouds appear* I smell the subjectivity/objectivity debate returning. Look, there's Diageo and Dannyboy.

The Santa Fallacy and its Hazardous Effects on the Minds of Youth

The reality of Christmas really just being a random exercise in spending money on others for no reason that occurs every year becomes clear soon enough in one's life - let children think it's magical for a little while. -

I actually was referring to myself, being raised by mum and a depressive dad. I then said you were reminding me of him with your views in this, wasn't actually meant to be an accusation, sorry. What's the point of actively reminding them that all their fantasy is false? Is there a reason other than your own views/teenage angst that you would actively hamper a child's imagination/fun? Again depresssive thing wasn't intended - but no I don't know you, I know your bizarre and (imo) often infuriating posts. I'm not stupid enough to think I could assess someone's life story/personality/soul based off their posts. But BASED on posts (all it can be based on), you come across as about as much fun as a root canal. It was meant to be Rudolph :p - "Santa" got a biscuit and some milk from us. I just can't come to terms with the fact you'd set out to actively remove a little bit of a child's natural imagination. Why are you doing this? It's just such a needless application of your own adult views to a child. A child might fervently decide they believe that a fairy godmother visits them when no one else is around. When they told you this, would you actually deny them the right to believe in it? You annoy me, it's only a natural reaction. -
I wouldn't say studying and having an appreciation and interest in film craft and theory "ruins" anything. I like a whole lot of bad films, for lots of reasons. This was bad, and I didn't like it, but I might've done if it were a little bit different/entertaining in it's shiteness.

Diageo, you clearly know nothing of raising a child, nor of being a child raised (partially) by a fucking depressive (like you're coming across as). All children want is to let their imaginations run free, and they should be allowed to do so. You say you'll let them belive in Santa if, after questioning from you, that's what they want to do. But in their infancy, they'd be aware you, the parent, wouldn't be in sync with their belief in Santa, and as the main teacher/parent/nourisher/fucking parent, they'd be aware that there was a disconnect, which would distress them and affect them far more than finding out Santa doesn't exist ever would. A child needs to rely on a parent to tell them that what they imagine is as magical as it seems, that what they want to believe in is real. They'll grow out of it - we all did. But like...everyone wishes for blissful ignorance of some sort during their lives again, to be transported back to fantasy worlds they created as a child. I wish I could go back and play with my Batcave with the collapsing widows etc. Just let your children have SOME fun before they learn the incredibly depressing realities of life. Why else do you think children are 'allowed" to revel in the imaginary for so many (formative) years? We all wish we could live back in out imagined worlds. WHO GIVES A CRAP if a parent TELLS THEIR CHILD that Santa is real. There's nothing a parent would want more than to see their child's face light up with excitement when they see a plate with a seemingly half-eaten carrot on it, and a "note from Santa". iuejfjnkfgjkgjkfg I hate shite. I'd bet that wasn't coherent, but I've been out tonight, so I give not a shite. -
Half the people I saw it with had seen the original. It got incredibly mixed responses from the group (all of us film students) - one girl and I agreed completely (views expressed here), 2 were indifferent, 3 loved it in a "oh the original was the same!" way, and one is insane so his views don't count. :p Considering my new fascination is when things are intentionally shit/camp/OTT, this was just...no. Take it away from me. The fact the universe wasn't explored was one of it's major failings. It may as well have been set in the real world tbh, it so ignored the one it "established".

Why do you hate fun? Muthafracker.

This whole affair smacks of trying to find something good in a mound of crap. It wasn't a horrible cinema experience, but I GENUINELY (all "film student views" aside) don't feel like I could recommend it to anyone. I hope a ride based on it appears in a Disney theme park though.

I still can't handle the concept of my own death - on one hand I'd rather be buried than cremated since then your body is "intact", and obviously I can't fathom the thought of my body/mind not existing. But then were the mind to live on after death (which it clearly doesn't, but yeah), I hate claustrophobia. FUFUFUFUFUFU

And what about the "characters" at Disney world? (Very) Young children are told that the people in costumes "are the characters" - is that horrible deception too?
