EEVIL's New Year Resolution Thread - 2024 Edition

So you're the reason for climate change As a German...I cannot relate. I'm happy for every chance I get not to speak German I don't do new year resolutions. If I want to change/do something I just try to do it. -
I'm happy I'm not sharing your jaded view on video games.

And why is that a problem?

Last night I found Die in the Dungeon: Origins, a free prequel to Die in the Dungeon (duh) which will be released sometime next year. The game doesn't have Steam Deck/controller support so I had to use the trackpad and LT/RT. It works great. I was always weary of this particular control setting, but I think I'll use it more and more. This kinda makes me want to get Against the Storm now, but that's a different story. Anyways, Die in the Dungeon: Origins is fun for what it is: An introduction to a game that needs its mechanics to be fleshed out a bit more. Some more visual cues could be very helpful, too. Right now you only know that a die has a certain property when you hover over it. For example: it can be "hollow" and cost no energy. However, if you draw two or more dice of the same colour you don't immediately know which one it is. I'm definitely gonna play more of this and keep an eye on the full game's development. Seems like something I could spend ages with if done right

And thankfully the music wasn't ass Easily one of the coolest boss fights I've ever played! Gonna continue today and I'm expecting 2-3 hours of absolute boredom It's a good thing that I'm going to get high later so maybe it'll be bearable
-
Well...you can complain about everything else but damn...those moments are insane
-
69% (hehehe ) Yeah, I hope there are at least a few highs left. I feared that might be the case. Guess no Platinum for me then. Congrats on number 700

Played this game for most of the day and it feels like I made zero progress. My mood has gone from "I LOVE THIS GAME" at the start to "this is a huge disappointment"...and I doubt it'll get better

How long is this boring sequence of mandatory fetch quests going to be? Don't even know what this is all for as I've started to skip cutscenes left and right. Haven't missed anything important, yet. Watching the cutscenes before, during and right after the linear sections is sufficient
-
It's a good thing then that I never played a Sonic game. And Clive, my man...are you in kindergarten? "If you can do it, I can do it, too". "BUT I WANT HIS TOY" Worst boss fight so far...
-
What the fuck is this? What is this music? Terrible, horrible, awful. Takes away a lot of the epicness of that fight (which seems to take ages ). Edit: And it gets worse I think this is the first time that music ruins a fight for me...

Boxing Day. It's holiday over here, literally nothing is happening and you people on your weird little island are holding matches. Fine by me. I'm at home and gonna have Sky running on my second monitor while playing video games on the other one

Oh man, just imagine a turn-based FFXVI with Gav as one of the party members. GOTY right there! Anyways, 55% in. I assume something big is going to happen in the next 30 minutes.
-
Hunts aren't unlocked all at once? BOOOHHHHHH! I was hoping to fight some high-level monsters to finally have an actual challenge FFXVI has the same problem as Sea of Stars: Once you fought your first battle, you've seen it all. Yes, you occasionally get one or two new abilities but they change fuck all. The more I play of FFXVI the more this turns out to be a "this could've been so much more" game...The world, the lore, the characters, the enemy design...it's so good but the game itself falls flat on so many levels. I wish this was a traditional, turnbased Final Fantasy.

What's with the lipsync? Sometimes it's spot on, sometimes it's terrible. Even for major characters

Now onto comparisons between 2022 and 2023. Two graphs max per spoiler tag. 29 games less than last year. Spent some more time "outside of" gaming, mostly taking care of my mental health by spending more time with friends and the student association I volunteer in. I'll keep doing that next year, because it helped me immensely. Will be interesting, whether I'll be able to slip in more gaming time again Unsurprisingly, the number of total Platinums has reduced, as well PSVita is dead? PS5 still strong. Steam Deck has mostly been in the "Slay the Spire only phase" PS+ Essential seems to have been pretty bad for me this year. I played way less, but spent a lot more this year...Well, I extended my PS+ Premium sub until 2025, bought a couple of games on release and digitally, and I bought a Steam Deck. That explains it. And that's my gaming year 2023. Quite happy with it overall Any plans for next year? Financially survive the onslaught of JRPGs...

Yay, it's that time of the year. This will a little less dramatic than last year's thread. It's statistics. THERE'S NOTHING FUN ABOUT STATISTICS! And don't worry, Timmy is gone and he will never be seen again. One graph per spoiler tag! Ups and downs. My trophy hunting days are officially over. I do like to go after some Platinums, though. It all depends on the game and the trophy list Favourite Platinum? Spider-Man 2 Worst Platinum experience? Sea of Stars No surprises there. Quite surprised to see only one game from PS+ Essential. Not surprised with PS+ Premium. It sucks PS+ Extra has delivered, though. Ys VIII is a bad, bad game. My Game of the Year? 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.

Good man. The trophy list is also very fun. Aside from one trophy which is just tedious (clear a level with the weakest weapon only...).
-
Didn't think I'd finish one more game this year, let alone such a banger! When a game makes you feel badass even when you reload, then it's a great game Was very surprised to see who sings the final boss' theme: Yupyup, highly recommended! PS+ Extra delivers yet again
-
Ah yes, the good old "more gil", "more AP", "more EXP" accessories have arrived. Screw more damage

Decided to only buy Halls of Torment and the new Vampire Survivors DLC. Should last me for a while
