  1. The hotspots no longer use the cloud, they use O2 wifi so it's a slightly different set of shops to visit. Chains that should all have hotspots include Argos, HMV, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Costa, Subway, Debenhams, Santander, Matalan, B&Q, Homebase and Waitrose, and it's also used by quite a few pubs/restaurants. You should also get passes from Game as they are the current provider of Nintendo Zones. You can usually get passes from outside the shops, but it can take a little while to activate so just walking past is rarely enough. Either go in or pause outside. Big shops can have several relays so are good for getting lots of passes. Good luck with finding those pieces!

I had no idea it had changed! Thanks so much dude! I'll make sure I hit the right places tomorrow :D

  2. What's going on with the hotspot thing? Is the cloud still working? I used to get hundreds of streetpasses in York and Leeds last summer, and this past week I've had very few. In fact in Leeds I walked around the city centre for an hour and only got ONE streetpass. Anyone know what's going on? I wanna get all the purple puzzle pieces before I go back to Russia and at this rate I won't manage it.

  3. Looks like we could be getting Minecraft Wii U...today!

Rated on pan European PEGI board, listed as November 12th release date...worthy of its own thread yet or just bunkum?

WHAAAAT??!! This is excellent news if it's true. The WiiU would be the perfect platfrom for Minecraft (after PC of course). I've already sunk 200 hours into the PC version and it really is one of the best games of the last 10 years.

I'm really hoping for some info on Pokemon GO. I know it's not strictly Nintendo, and it's mobile, but I'm interested in seeing the concept in action.

  4. To be fair, Mario Maker is one of my most disappointing games of the year. Not being interested in the creation part of it, I hoped I would be able to get to play through a good amount of random levels. Turns out most of them were garbage or there purely to just troll the player. Finding good levels in that game is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Couldn't agree more with this. Tried playing through expert a couple of times and it's just awful. The number of terrible levels ruins the game for me.

  5. Great fun tonight guys, Baby Park was brutal :D Sorry I was a bit late! The lag may have been because of me, my internet connection has been really awful over the past few days and being in St. Petersburg doesn't help the situation playing with UK based people. I won't be able to make it for the next 3 weeks as I'll be back home, but thanks again to everyone for these past few Thursday nights!

  6. I've played up to the third set of stages in OlliOlli and to 7.1 in Thomas Was Alone, @Nicktendo, and I definitely recommend that you get both while the price is so good :hehe:

For me, they've been the perfect combination to play after ending Xenoblade Chronicles and I look forward to delving even deeper

I took the dive on OlliOlli (mainly becuase it was free for 3DS also) and it's great! Even though it's been about 6 years since I last played it, I still can't get the Tony Hawk controls out of my head...

  7. With the Curve Digital sale currently on, I decided to pick up OlliOlli and Thomas Was Alone :hehe:

I think I'm going to really enjoy OlliOlli when I get into it.. if I can shake off those Tony Hawk's Pro Skater habits :red:

I got Stealth Inc. 2 but was thinking about those as well. Let me know how they play and I might take the dip too : peace:

  8. I've had this for a month now. At the beginning I wasn't too keen, played around 5 or 6 matches then switched it off. Over the past couple of days I've completely fallen in love with it, probably because I unlocked ranked matches. At first I thought it was pretty shallow and it didn't really grab me, but now I'm going for unlocks, mixing up my weapons (the bucket is amazing) and leveling up pretty rapidly. The variety in the the game modes, maps and weapons is amazing. It feels like a proper shooter, only Nintendofied. The soundtrack is spectauclar. I've been sitting here all evening playing. I really don't know how Nintendo still manage to stay fresh (sorry) after all these years. Hands down my game of the year. Looking forward to future updates, and all the surprises they have in store for us. If you haven't bought it yet, buy it.

  9. Why is team sleep almost exclusively filled with casual players and drop-outs. I have finished top of my team in all but one of my games and team sleep hasn't even won ONE of the 15 games I've played so far. The last game we got 6.3% and two players dropped out. This absolutely sucks.

  10. After reading all this, I'm not going to start responding to individual points, but I will just give my general feelings.

I love Nintendo, I came here to discuss Nintendo. However, despite my love for them, I don't believe they're perfect or that they shouldn't be criticised. What I, and clearly many others get so tired of is the constant identical criticism from the same small bunch derailing every single thread.

What's more - and this is the bit that pisses me off, it seems these people don't even want to play Nintendo games. They don't like the look of the game, they wouldn't purchase it, but they are in the threads just going on and on and on about how they don't like it, how it isn't for them and then snapping and talking down to anyone who does like it.

People say there are no arguments over on the 'other consoles' board. Well that's maybe because most people who don't want to play the games on other consoles don't go there to discuss how they don't want to play the games.

You see, I never wanted to play the Order 1886, I always thought it looked sketchy and bit shit from day one. Everything from the colour palette to the lack of true gameplay bothered me. I remember saying to @kav82 it was going to be shit, despite plenty of hype for it. But I haven't felt the need to go into the thread on the game and discuss it. Because I don't want it and have no interest in it. I also have no interest belittling those who are enjoying it or trying to convince them they shouldn't be enjoying it.

However the same never appears to be true for Nintendo releases. There's always people who seem far happier on their PS4 telling people that they shouldn't be enjoying their Wii U. Often this borders on condescending and if anyone sticks up for Nintendo or has an opposing view it's responded too with those pathetic reaction GIFs or a snarky one liner - the the kind which would get @Glen\-i - the bullying of @Serebii is ridiculous. It's got to the point that people can openly attack him, mock his job his hobbies and be down right awful to him and it is tolerated. It is almost like t is accepted for him to be a target of abuse.

People may find him annoying, or dislike the tone of his posts, but does that give people the right to attack him? I don't believe so. It also seems to me that those who are positive get far more warnings than the negative bunch.

This has led to a huge downward spiral in the numbers that seem to be posting. So many positive Nintendo fans who used to post have all been driven away. People who used to play on the Wii have slowly stopped posting and some people in this thread have even admitted to not wanting to post.

I still play Nintendo games, I like some of them, I don't like others. The ones I want to buy, I spend time discussing, those I don't want to buy I may say why I don't like them, but often I don't even post in the thread about them. I don't like Amiibo, but don't feel the need to rip up every thread about them. I will never play that Animal Crossing board game - so I don't post in the thread. I posted once about it not being the Animal Crossing game people wanted - and I'll leave it at that.

The same can't be said for a certain group who have to keep chirping on repeating the same points and attacking anyone showing the slightest positivity or hype toward any Nintendo title.

Finally, I know what these people will say - they love Nintendo and are just frustrated and want Nintendo to change. They will say that they are passionate and that they are just expressing their opinion. Well that's not really going to wash with me. Few people loved COD as much as me. On the Wii I had every online COD game and played them for probably over a thousand hours. Now, I don't play COD any more and I didn't enjoy the last few games and really didn't like the look of AW and think BO3 looks even worse. Yet despite my love for what the series once was, I don't ruin every COD thread with hate for what the series is now, I just move on and play other games. I don't see why others can't do the same thing - if you no longer like Nintendo, if they don't do it for you, if you have a PS4 and love it, then cool, I'm happy for you. Just don't keep coming to the Nintendo threads to endlessly post the same condescending rubbish about games you don't want to play!

Sums up my thoughts exactly, and explains why I've only been lurking for the past year.

  11. Always good to hear more Mario 3D World love, completely agree on it being the perfect blend of 2D and 3D.

And you still have Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong, Captain Toad, Kirby and Splatoon to play! I haven't started Kirby but the other four are excellent.

I planned to pick up Splatoon when I got paid last week, but it was sold out! It's astonishing how popular that game is in Russia, the Russian social network VK is absolutely flooded with posts about it, and literally hundreds of hilarious Splatoon memes have been posted. Nintendo has done incredibly well to break into a market where PC and piracy has been king for the best part of 20 years. There is a whole genreation of teenagers who are just discovering the company and the games, and I'm sick with envy.

Splatoon's back in stock now, but I've been holding off until I've finished a couple more games. Yoshi's dropping on Friday too, so I might grab that first. I know Splatoon will be a time consumer.

Your positivity is refreshing :) You are right in that the Wii U has many classic titles

For anyone who is getting frustrated or bored with Nintendo, take some time off from gaming. I took almost 3 years off. Didn't check news, didn't post on message boards, and didn't play all that much. It's true that absence makes the heart grow fonder :)

  12. It's certainly a good console with (I agree) the best Zelda game. When the next one's out, it honestly could have the two best Zeldas.

I also think I'd miss the GamePad if it wasn't there. I've got so used to using it for the web browser, eShop etc. I'm not actually saying the next console should have one, but I can definitely see why they had the idea for it in the first place.

I downloaded a few SNES games the other day and they're absolutely brilliant on that 6" screen, and I love having GBA on there too. With the NX, I can't wait to boost my Virtual Console collection even more.

A Red Dwarf reference (S1, ep 2 "Queeg") always makes me grin. : peace:

I didn't even mention off-screen play. My girlfriend loves to watch shitty vampire TV series and it has been an absolute godsend. I don't know what I'd do without it, I can't think of anything worse than being forced to sit and watch teenagers pretend to be vampires. I'd be lost without NES remix. Well, I wouldn't, I'd have my 3DS, but that's not the point. :awesome:

I also didn't mention Mario 3D world, the perfect marriage of 2D and 3D Mario, Super Luigi U, Wii Sports Club.. I could go on forever. Or the fact my previously none-gaming girlfriend has also been converted. Best. Nintendo. System. Ever.

I really hope they name the next console "Nintendo" or something like that. I miss the days where we'd call our mates and ask them round to play some Nintendo. #Nostalgia

  13. That's pretty much where I've been all year

I've been through a lot of games this year that I've owned for a long time, yet hadn't played or finished them, and have been having a great time :yay: The Wii U has been injecting the odd gem into my schedule every now and then, such as Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Splatoon and Kirby & The Rainbow Paintbrush with Yoshi's Woolly World on the way this week!

There's definitely more than enough to keep me going, especially when you consider the amount of games it would be great to go back and revisit. I recently played Starfox Assault, for example, and though I may have cleared it all those years ago, I didn't remember most of it so it felt quite fresh to me

Ultimately, it's nice to have new and exciting games to look forward to, and I was as disappointed by Nintendo's Digital Event as anyone, but while we may not have a huge amount of amazing games to look forward to over the next 12 months, those classics that we've all built up over the years aren't going anywhere. Take some time out and enjoy them : peace:

I couldn’t agree with this more! I got my WiiU, funnily enough, exactly a year ago. I kind of burned out on my love for gaming during the Wii era, only playing through Skyward Sword and a couple of other big hits, but the WiiU and 3DS have made me completely fall in love with it again (read: Nintendo). The Wii U is hands down my favourite console of all time. I absolutely love this machine. It has, by far, the best editions of Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Zelda (by this I obviously mean the spectacular Wind Waker HD). I was late to the party, and thus have a lot of catching up to do. I haven’t even touched Pikmin 3, DKCR:TF or Zombi U. I’m still to buy Kirby, Toad and Splatoon, but I know, given the quality of the other releases, there will be countless hours to lose myself in. Have I even mentioned the indie games and virtual console? I’m halfway through both Prime Trilogy and Earthbound (still).

I was as disappointed as the next guy with the Digital Event (who wasn’t waiting for a megaton?), but you know what, it didn’t bother me, because it’s not physically possible to have played through EVERYTHING Nintendo have released on the Wii U and 3DS, and the upcoming games do tick most boxes. The overreaction online was mind-boggling. We all know Nintendo has changed, sure, we may not appreciate the way they go about it, but they’re still innovating and still giving us great games, that in my humble opinion, is undeniable. Take Hyrule Warriors for instance. I never in a million years thought I’d sink over 60 hours into a Muso game, yet here I am. A perfect example of Nintendo’s new approach to the dreaded “third party situation.” I speak only for myself, but I am more than happy to relinquish full 3rd party support for games such as this, Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta. Steam is available to those who want something a bit different and (if they don’t have an expensive PC) take a graphical hit in comparison to the sister consoles. I know I don’t need a PS4 for PES, Skyrim, Minecraft or a non-descript shooter, should the urge arise.

The thought of a hybrid excites me greatly. Having a “Nintendo” console with 30 years of history that can be used at home and on-the-go is a mouthwatering prospect to any true Nintendo fan-boy. Nintendo have never, ever been about anything but gameplay and experiences and I would give me left arm for such a device, whether it was in HD or not. The business model is being forced to change, and I for one am excited to see what they have up their sleeve. Hell, my goddamn obsession with Pokemon shuffle is evidence enough of that. I’ll certainly pick up some games shown in the direct and skip others, but for now, the Wii U is unique enough, familiar enough, online enough and “Nintendo” enough to satisfy my gaming needs for the next couple of years.

TL;DR: Appreciate what you’ve got, because basically, I’m fantastic.
