Fully expecting a "want to PLAY GameCube VC games, you can buy this GameCube joy-con" along the lines of the mock ups we've seen. Available in Spice Orange or Purple. Please note: GameCube VC games will not work with the standard joy-cons. RRP: £49.99

I think people would just simply not buy it instead of spending hours on a forum complaining how the phone maker doesn't care about them / cater to their needs. If you don't like what Nintendo is offering with the Switch, don't buy it. It really is that simple. Nintendo will never listen to a bunch of hardcore western gamers are saying on a niche forum no matter how loudly they complain. Have you tried complaining to the directly? Tweeting them? Made a YouTube video about it? This thread is going round in circles. We get it, people are not happy with how Nintendo have released info regarding the Switch or how their approaching certain online services. Don't buy one. In Autumn / Winter you will know what Nintendo is offering with Switch, make your decision then. All this constant whining about decisions just comes across as entitlement. Make your point, sure, but please stop banging on about it and derailing threads.

I saw the post as well too, and while I agree to some extent, I do think this is focused on gamers who post in online forums and not the vast majority of people. I still think there is a lot to be said for the Switch being exclusively a gaming device. The Switch will be my primary gaming device. I have no desire to purchase an Xbox or PlayStation for gaming. Having a decent tablet and a internet enabled TV means I can stream what I want, where I want or browse the web as I choose. Like this guy, I know this doesn't work for everyone. Some people use a PS4 as their main streaming device, some people a TV, a set-top-box or an Xbox. How many people can afford to be subscribed to a multitude of streaming services, or some of the lesser known ones? How many teenage girls own a 3DS? There are so many potential owners for the Switch and so many variations in how people use media services or the web. Once again I'll state that Nintendo have access to all kinds of data regarding usage of their Wii U and 3DS systems and have obviously come to an informed decision regarding certain features' inclusion. They may have it completely wrong, it wouldn't be the first time, but again, I think too many people are focusing on what isn't there rather than what is. In Summer, once the online features start rolling out, we'll have a clearer sense of Nintendo's direction. They will then have some actual feedback regarding Switch and its features and functions as opposed to speculation and will be able to reach a decision as to whether make strides to include these features. There isn't a right or a wrong answer in this debate. Nintendo have made a decision which may be correct or may be catastrophic. Let the sales numbers do the talking and then let's see how Nintendo address issues the wider gaming community has if it doesn't take off. I think it's the correct decision, others disagree, if Nintendo go back and add support for a web browser then obviously enough people found it to be a big omission and I'll happily state I was wrong about this.

I dunno, when I'm buying a games console I usually want to know if it will play games and if they will be decent. I'm not sure many people picked up a PS4 or 3DS based on whether they could surf the web on it. Like I said, I'm sure it's important to x amount of people, but I'm pretty sure these people are in the minority. It seems to be important to a few people on this forum, but I really do wonder how representative we really are of the Switch's potential audience. Mostly people who grew up with Nintendo but do most of our gaming on other devices. Like you said, every device has basic web browsing features in 2017. Soon you will be probably be able to stream from your dog. Is it REALLY necessary? Is it really going to be the thing that forces a huge number of people to not buy a Switch? Time will tell. I still have an iPod by the way, because my phone only has 16gb and I prefer the simplicity of iTunes over anything Android offers. I can browse the web and stream Netflix on it too. Not that I really use it for that, because I need WiFi, so out of the house or in the car it's almost useless except as a decent music player

A feature that likely a very few number of people will use. Plus when the console is docked it will be cumbersome without the touchscreen. It's just another expense, along with video streaming services that Nintendo clearly feel isn't justified, especially considering they have access to all kinds of data regarding Wii U and 3DS usage. I appreciate some people may be miffed or unimpressed but it's not the end of the world, is it? 99% of people have a portable device which can access the web and is just as featured packed / easy to use as a console web browser. Yes, a minority may take a hit in QoL, but Nintendo obviously feels the gains outweigh the drawbacks. They have said it's something they'll consider for the future, so it can always be added later should enough people complain about it. If it means a more streamlined gaming service, I'm all for it personally. Never used the Wii U or 3DS for any web browsing or streaming.

Really gutted about Switch not being able to stream Netflix. I mean I really could have done with that seventh device from which to stream House of Cards.

Was hoping to add F-Zero X to the list this weekend, but man this game is hard on expert mode.... Remember it being way easier as a kid, or maybe I'm just not used to the 60Hz speeds! Might put it on the backburner for now.

So does mine, maybe that's why we're not so fussed when it comes to industry standards

I agree here, I think too much has been made by gamers hating on what Nintendo is / isn't doing with the Switch. Yes, Nintendo is not giving clarity over certain aspects of the console and while that may be frustrating to a relatively small, but very loud number of Western gamers, all-in-all these things likely are not so important to the majority of people who eventually pick the console up. They want us to focus on the games. People criticize Nintendo for innovating for innovation's sake, but they still manage to provide unparalleled experiences on whatever device they put out. This, I feel, is why people buy Nintendo devices. Connectivity, voice chat, form factor, power, all of this takes a back seat to the games. If the games are good (and frequent), they will come. Nintendo is going to do what makes sense for Nintendo, just like they did with the DS, the Wii or and the 3DS. They likely don't care if a group of people want certain features. And while this approach failed with the Wii U, they are addressing that in their own way, as they always have done. The Switch is their vision for gaming, despite what we may want. We then can decide, come March 3rd, whether we want to support that vision with our hard earned cash. I am excited by the console, and the games. I think it is an interesting concept and I already have a list of games for the system which I'm keen to play. At the end of the day, this is what matters for me. For others of course it will be different, and they will decide whether they buy it or not. All the criticism is somewhat justified, of course, because we are passionate Nintendo fans who want to see the company succeed. We want to play their games and enjoy their devices fully. But I also think we are in a bit of a bubble, and in a minority when it comes to the potential audience for the Switch. I think the amount of negativity hurled in Nintendo's direction is becoming ridiculous. "They haven't learned their lesson!" is the cry I hear the loudest. "They aren't matching the industry standards!" is another. But my question is, when have they ever done either of these things? When has Nintendo ever catered fully to a Western audience? If these aspects are so vitally important to you, you have every right to state your opinion here and to not purchase a Switch. However, I think many people need to take a step back, place less emphasis on speculation as fact and wait and see what Nintendo is offering. Yes, it's frustrating, but here we have potentially the most exciting Nintendo console and collection of games since the GameCube and instead of focusing on what IS there, some are instead focusing on what ISN'T, despite not having clarity from Nintendo themselves. Nintendo, in the grand scheme of things, obviously don't find these aspects as vital to shifting the launch systems and thus are not speaking about it. No one is forcing anyone to place a pre-order or buy the system at launch, if you're not happy, wait and look at the system again in six months or a year. We know very little of HD rumble or the online structure / account system at the moment, so why focus on it so heavily? Surely it would be better to criticise once we have all the details, or have tried for ourselves? Maybe there will be a voice chat app on the system, maybe not, we don't know. It makes sense to have it over the phone if the system is portable, but for home it may be less than ideal. We know we won't be faced with a choice of paying until Autumn either way, so we can make an informed decision closer to the time whether to buy the system and subscribe to the online service. Nintendo gonna Nintendo and while it may be frustrating, we are not the sole focus of Nintendo's plans at the moment, so it goes without saying we won't hear everything we want or in as much detail as we want. Nintendo are currently selling the console on the control innovations and the games, in time they may or may not address the issues a certain minority have, but they are clearly not ready yet. You can vote against that approach by not purchasing a Switch. That's my two pence anyway.

I'm 90% certain, going by what I've read on Twitter / neogaf over the past few hours that Fire Emblem GC is going to be announced as the first VC game tonight during the direct. But then again, we all know Nintendo... Personally hoping for a remake.
-
I am the opposite. Only my dad calls me Nicholas, in that awful, condescending, "I know better" way.
-
Oh, Ubisoft! Please, please, PLEASE. Still willing to maintain that the original which launched with Wii is one of my favourite FPSs of all time.
-
I'm prepared to wait and try it before I pass judgement on how shit it is.
-
It was awesome for Splatoon, which rarely used the face buttons, except X, just the sticks and the triggers. But the lack of motion was a disadvantage. I imagine, had we seen more FPSs on the Wii U, it would have been nice to have the Pad Pro layout of the sticks.
-
Layout and build quality are not the same thing. Pick up a classic controller for the Wii and then tell me the Wii U pad doesn't have decent build quality. The positioning of buttons isn't a cost which is passed on to the consumer. I agree, it should have been the reverse and was awkward for playing competitively, but the build quality on the Wii U pad was among the best Nintendo have ever produced. The pad feels like a decent piece of kit. It has been more than ample for playing countless hours of Smash, Splatoon or MK8 online for me.
-
Lol wut? The build quality on the Wii U Pro is solid (certainly no worse than the DS4) and that 60+ hour battery life, baby. That released at £40, and sold for £35 in most places as I seem to recall - not that I got one back then as I thought it was a bit pricey, even though it never went down much. £30 is the cheapest I've ever seen it new. I got mine for £25 second-hand in CeX, not exactly outrageous, but I still grumbled as I handed over the cash. I agree with Liger than you should be comparing release prices, and not PS4 DS4 V2.01345 or what ever at Tesco in mid-Jan 2017. The pad has been out 2-3 years, Sony have had time to amend it's design, change parts and bring down costs, Nintendo haven't. The Switch Pro-Con is currently at £64.99 at most places, that will likely come down £5/10 before or during launch depending on stock levels (lots of talk on Twitter that they're scarce at the moment, most US sites don't have a pre-order available). We already know there's a hell of a lot of tech in them, same as the Joy-Cons but minus the IR. Battery has been stated at 20+ hours, people who've tried it have been positive on its design and build quality. There is more tech in there than the DS4, a 2-3 year old pad, I'm not surprised it's more expensive. Fairly redundant comparison backed up by a strange statement. Still, it is too expensive, outrageously so, and I won't be rushing out to buy one.
-
That's essentially what I've heard as the reasoning to why there isn't one.
-
I'm pretty sure the Switch won't have a browser. Can't remember where I heard / read it but it's apparently not packing one. I love Jim, and he's usually right. I agree he's jumping the gun with regards to online, we simply don't know enough yet, but his general criticisms of Nintendo as a company are wholly justified.
-
Jimquisition on the Switch (Full gore 18+ mode: on).

I'm not her biggest fan, but the way she spoke about the system was fascinating. Went into a lot of detail about a number of things which really got me hyped. Anyone who's still on the fence, give it a listen, really insightful stuff.

Gaming Podcasts: A Thread about Listening to Others
Nicktendo replied to Goron_3's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Anyone else have problems with this weeks NWR? I had dead audio in the middle and then the last 30 mins seemed to be a repeat of the middle of the podcast...? Very excited after some of the positive things Syrene was saying about the console from a dev perspective. She really sold me on some of the features. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I think this has the potential to be huge, an over the shoulder beat-em-up with what looks like massively deep gameplay. Granted it hasn't grabbed me yet, but I do wonder if this could be Switch's online sleeper hit. Fighting games are serious business in a competitive environment, and this has the potential to appeal to that market. I'd be interested if the single player is meaty, I'm a fan of the art style. Maybe we'll see an appearance from Punchout characters, maybe they'll try and push this as a whole new IP a là Splatoon. Interesting concept nonetheless, and bodes will for online gaming with the Switch.
-
So that's £10 less than Zelda. I can see Amazon / Tesco etc. selling at £39.99. Wii U games were £50 RRP but outside of Game never really sold for that much. £40 is a big ask, but I'll probably bite if I find it for a bit below that. Edit: 1080p 60FPS is a big part of the draw for me personally.
-
No extra tracks for single player is a shame, but I think this means they either have DLC planned for this or a new version is in the works for Switch. Have we had solid confirmation on the RRP? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I thought @Ashley had confirmed they were analogue just no where near as deep as the GameCube triggers, a tiny amount of give, but analogue nonetheless, no? What about on the pro-controller? Can anyone who attended confirm anything?
