Goddammit I only just bought it a few months ago!! Anything else in there really worth a shout?

Ha! I actually thought of that guy as I posted! Unless I'm mistaken doesn't he just run the item shop when fisher/curiosity man is running his shop? I couldn't think who else would have replaced him. I wasn't counting any of the sages, though I've obvs come to realise that Lulu was rather Ruto-esque. Saria, Darunia, Nabooru, Rauru and Impa would all have been missing - but it's sort of to be expected with them being sages and all. Ofc we should all know the desert salesman in his MM form, though I can understand if some don't as he was somewhat arguably missable. True it'd be harder but surely not impossible? The whole map/world and even dungeons would need some sorts of re-working yes - though I'd be happy if they could try and stay as close to original ideas/format as possible. I see no problem in being able to see Hyrule Castle from far away, nor Death Mountain - the game limits your progress via items generally. I did get thinking after my post about things like Pegasus Boots etc - harder when you've got 360 degrees as opposed to 4 cardinals. There's certain ways to get around it all, I'm sure! Other than that what things specifically wouldn't work? Not saying everything WOULD, just haven't thought enough to consider anything so far that wouldn't.

Are you sure GC:AC wouldn't feel dated now though? I'd much rather a new AC for NX, especially given the possibilities again having both handheld and home dockable - but they would need to mix up the formula somehow maybe. Even so - GC version of AC on a handheld for me would certainly be cool - I always felt AC was better suited to handhelds than consoles due to doing things at various times etc. Ofc that was when I was younger and couldn't always get to a TV as much as I wanted, but thinking of a younger generation now I'd think it could still be a similar issue. Yet having said that it's also why I'd probably prefer a more up to date version, to reflect the current situation of things and appeal to them more instead.

Tbh that's unnecessary even if satisfying, and does de-rail here. I'm not a mod here though so I can't delete the post, but I actually would FTR. That's the reason I didn't like the idea of a thread like this(tho tbh it has been refreshing/productive on the discussion front). Keep it NX people, please PM or write on my wall with forum issues and I'll take it from there, rest assured I'm not unaware and trying to listen! Alternatively PM someone else if you don't like me, cos that saves me some hassle :p Tbh I signed up as well but have no idea what my password is - just did it at the time to try and get Rummy or Rumdumcious(forced to have due to never having Rummy) - I don't even recall which one I took! I'd presumed at the time it was in preparation for the future consoles though, possibly with a mind to gage demand and start getting services in place to cope too. I'm really hoping with the NX that Nintendo have done a lot of backend work to bring their services up to par with competition(online functionality etc) - it's going to be the real deal-breaker for me on this system unless it does something else amazing to sell the thing to me. With some of the rumours about region-free etc though it does have an indication of moving into that sphere and it's kind of exciting!

Nintendo Direct (3DS Only) - September 1st - 15:00

Sorry, I didn't really class 'Get Hype!' as a proper post nor a dicussion starter around feelings on the 3DS. Thanks for posting back exactly as I expected and further helping my point though. -

Whilst tongue-in-cheek - I did make the post for a reason. You know that you weren't though, right? You realise that was your first post in this thread? I made a post saying the 3DS was mostly, for me, somewhat dead. Nekunando agreed with that for him, in response to me. THEN you feel the need to, for some strange reason, just make a post of 'different strokes' and bring up all its past titles. That was as I said your first post in this thread. You were in no discussion with nekunando at the time. Neither of us were saying it had been a bad system, and in fact after 'calling' him on it he had to actually clarify this to you which then takes the topic in a different direction. This is exactly one of the major issues people in this community have with you Ronnie. You think people take issue with your views, but really on the whole they don't. They take issue with your conduct and your response when you take issues with other people's views and somehow or for some reason feel the need to leap to defence of some perceived, often non-existent and even then unintended, slight on Nintendo. You know what it did to this thread about the Direct? Your post THEN turned it into a DS vs 3DS/how good was 3DS topic when it's about the Nintendo Direct. Dazzy's had to(quite rightly though to keep it cleaner) make a new topic. Your conduct derails threads, discussions, and the board. It makes members of this community not wish to post. THAT is one of the biggest issues people have with you and your impact on the forum. I'm telling you this here, despite being topic irrelevant, because I've had to see a number of members call you out on said conduct recently and I want you to try and understand this point because it's clearly an ongoing issue that is putting off some members, not just some bugbear held against you by 'this place' or me but you have been actively called out by regular members and appear to make little effort to reflect on your conduct, continuing to repeat the same patterns over and over. Of course my predicted response from yourself is a post defending yourself into eternity - once again showing exactly what I've already said; lacking insight into one's own behaviour. If so then you cannot take the point on board because I'm probably in your view definitely wrong and it's just me and thus you will not change and thus you will continue to be an issue for other people here and reduce their willingness to participate in the community. That's the greatest shame of it, really. -

You know that Directs aren't about the past, right? -
I think if it fails Nintendo are in real trouble. I don't know what they'd do to get out of it except soldier on as they did with the Wii U and hope somehow they still have money to carry on later. I don't think it will fail though - the value of a handheld/home console is good. The issues are going to be price, online functionality/features, and software. I think in that order of importance too, probably. I don't know the Vita 3G numbers but one thing I did speculate on the other thread was what if Nintendo could somehow strike a deal with carriers for an exclusive Nintendo-esque network? So like 3G/4G sim but it can only be used for the Nintendo device, you couldn't push any other non-verified/non-signed data through it. I don't know what the costs are for data these days, but I get 1GB included in my tenner a month. Imagine if you knew no-one would break a few hundred MB a month and didn't need anything else? Could you get a carrier to help you with that? No need for text/voice etc. just all data. Obvs default to wifi wherever possible too. I'd have the above based on a paid online service btw(as PS+ and Live do), and some of that price goes towards the above. I realise it's a pipe dream really, but it'd be interesting to have a handheld console with basic functionality almost anywhere. I think paid online, whilst some wouldn't want it and free is tempted, gives them a revenue stream and ringfence of money to put towards those services.

Yeah the HBR really is pretty scary when you're buying your first place. My parents didn't help by telling me how terrible it all seemed(they happened to get a house with much less 'wrong' on it). The big job on the electrics is the re-wire from what I understand - as long as it isn't the old rubber wiring though it won't need condemning(unfortunately apparently happened to someone at work when they got a spark in). If you're getting someone to update the fuse box etc then you might as well ask them to do a quick check of the electrics as they are now just to be sure there isn't anything hazardous - my brother found two things when I moved in which meant I lost a socket or two in the kitchen(deservedly so though), but otherwise he seemed to think everything was ok. Also consider if the fuse box is getting done maybe having an isolator fitted if they're pulling the fuse to do the work anyway - I dunno why but my brother seems to like having them in houses lol. Basically just means for any future work that needs to be done on the fusebox/consumer unit or before it can be done without pulling the mains fuse (which can involve cutting the fuse seal, and some companies charge to re-seal even though it takes 2 seconds). My brother doesn't like pulling the fuses but most full-time sparks probably won't mind and may even re-seal when they aren't meant to but my brother doesn't tend to do much of the hands-on work day to day. I'd read up/learn a bit more about that though, as I haven't given the best idea of the thing!

What I fouind interesting about his MM analysis is the general actual lack of keys! As said I do wish The Ikana Well got some focus too though. I think MM on the whole seemed less 'dungeony' and more like a world in some ways, which added to its charm. Also even with the 'Groundhog Loop' as you mention I love the lengths they went to to really squeeze in pretty much every asset - all those NPCs from OoT brought to greater life in this strange new world! Was anyone even missing outside of the Kokiri?? Even Poe guy was in there! Haha, I'm glad you put it like that as I recall when playing I just sometimes couldn't get over how similar it was structurally like(3 pendants, get master sword, go to dark version of world, do dungeons in order in locations near previous etc). However what I ACTUALLY want to see is like...LttP realised in 3D. That whole world, Link's house, Hyrule Castle and the secret passage, Aganhim, The Church etcetc but in a 3D style like OoT(or maybe WW, I think vibrant/cartoony would work better). It'd take a lot of work to '3D'ify it - but I'd love it and I imagine if done well it'd sell pretty good off its LttP basis too.
-
Excellent point - completely out of stock anywhere near me too. I didn't both checking HUKD or anything either, but I'd wonder if it's become a known deal and been snapped up - not exactly a product that won't last or can't be sold on(exactly what I was planning).

'This isn't the place for it' '*thread relevant* 'Now I did say this wasn't the place for it but I'm still going to have the last word at the end of my post to defend my perceived slight upon my person even though barely a sentence has passed since I said this wasn't the place for it' What some people don't seem to realise is their complete lack of insight/understanding into the issue people have with them, and thus they seem unable to ignore or move past it and then they further contribute to said problem. Few people here seem to misunderstand the feelings of said people, but said people seem to absolutely fail in understanding those feelings of others. That's why these threads end up occurring - and also why it's so hard to overcome this hurdle.

I did wonder about this having just bought a portable charger/pack for my phone(tbh don't know why I haven't used it since) - but is it another expense and another carry/faff to deal with? Ofc if we're in an age where it's becoming more commonplace AND the NX might have some standard port charger(ie Micro B) or a USB-to-proprietary port cable included then it's certainly something. Also giving a mini-shout for screen/pointer controls over a pad, if though I prefer the latter. I can see the speed/swiftness of pointer controls coming closer to mouse+keyboard than a pad, but I'm not that kinda guy traditionally. Re: storage really I think anything less than 100GB is not really going to be acceptable. I see the possibility of 'downloading' games to your device for travel, though I really hope it won't if sizes are large due to time taken in 'transfers' and the limited nature. Something cart based(mostly for ease of size) makes sense to me tbh. I realise disc-based media is probably infinitely cheaper than cart based but how much is your markup truly going to be on it compared?

Nintendo Direct (3DS Only) - September 1st - 15:00
Rummy replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Hoping it's a test run for reviving Directs before a plan to have another Direct a few weeks later for NX. For me mostly 3DS is somewhat dead, but that's me. -
Both the 3DS and the Wii U were devices I did not get on launch. It was so weird for me as such a lifelong Nintendo fan not to do that, y'kno? Some of the NX rumours have me excited though - but I feel we really really need some official news/reveal regarding it. I'm absolutely tempted by it and its hybrid nature depending on the capabilities at home and on the go - but really the killer klincher for me is going to be its online functionality and features. If they are sub-par then it's very unlikely I'm going to pick this thing up unless either a lot of people I know have it, or if I see it going at an exceptionally good price.
-
Ohhh I see what they mean now! Why are we talking d-pads and not analogue sticks though? Surely we be wanting analogue sticks.
-
Can someone explain this split d-pad you're all chatting about to me please? I genuinely don't know if I understand the concept. D-Pad on one side and buttons on the other right? Like the left and right of the screen - I don't get why people are talking about alignments and stuff! Did I miss a really obvious image at work or something??
-
Can't be doing that without pics, brah! (tho maybe when literally a little less shitty, unless they're looking fab!)
-
Absolutely fair man, I'm just absolutely a hoarder really :p. Don't think I've traded in or sold more than 5-10 games in my life, and even then most have probably been ones I intentionally bought to make some sort of profit on. Back to NX/BotW I'm not sure we'll see too different an experience between NX and Wii U - I could be wrong but I just think with the potential systems differences there isn't too much room to offer that. I do see some sort of NX specific gimmick for it(ala TP motion swinging) but nothing to really make or break the experience. If you do decide to get shot of your NX though I think I might know a guy around the South London area....
-
I say we roll with it and Let's See What Happens NX.
-
Heyheyhey @drahkon, I'm just expressing my thoughts the same as you. Ain't no need to argue or defend either side to the death - I'd hoped I'd left enough openness and optimism in my post to try and get that across. It's good to be open and talk, and as I said I don't have an issue with it to desire a stifling of conversation. I didn't mean anything to be accusatory - it's just how it possibly comes across to me but I still take it, as with many things, with a hearty pinch of doubt!
-
Well fuck you very much, doctor.
-
Why day 1 it with your own reported history of selling and sometimes re-buying consoles? Why not just get it for Wii U - though I'm presuming for that question that you still have one. I just find the idea of buying/re-selling almost a false economy; though I can understand it almost as a slightly more expensive rental, of sorts. I'm just personally not much of a re-seller/trader-inner. Actually I'd dare even ask you why even Day 1 the system at all, given previous experiences??
-
I personally disagree with the thread to a large extent, though I do acknowledge a number of points and issues made in creating it. I realise we have the 'Other' Wii U thread but I also think that was made in another time in another climate and that really we should be working to iron out whatever these differences/issues are rather than avoiding or skirting around them with threads in different sub-forums. I also disagree with the naming and finger pointing of members(a point you acknowledge, however). Yes, I realise(as I've said elsewhere) that certain people do not mesh with certain people; but I feel making a post to then name people is almost a veiled disguise to attack them, whether realised/intentional or not. I think in someways the thread itself is an excuse to express the issues and frustrations that we've tried to get to the bottom of before - again it's complicated and whilst individual PoVs exist the interests of fairness and community need to be considered, too. Every single member who posts in this forum appropriately retains that privilege within reason to express his/her point of view as much as the next(exceptional cases made for threads such as these that clearly arise from an issue, but one I'd personally rather try to address than avoid/workaround via another topic/thread). I don't moderate this forum though, and I express the above more as a member of the community than as a mod, though the latter is built on the foundation of the former. I absolutely have no desire to stifle discussion when it's sane, civil, in good faith and rule-abiding. That's what a forum essentially is and should be. Tbh I'm expressing these sentiments here where it's wildly off-topic because I feel it's slightly relevant and I'm not sure where there's room to express it otherwise right at the moment. I'm happy for the thread to exist/continue but I don't know how much I'll personally contribute as I'd prefer to stick to the one in the actual Nintendo sub-forum(never say never though, so yet we'll see). #HashtagJustSaying

Nope. This is a big worry. A handheld device can't even have huge storage can it? Does a tablet have bigger than 256g? With modern games approaching 50g it feels like it could be a huge problem. The dock could have a big hard drive and some decent transferring tools, but it doesn't seem elegent. Could huge games run off an sd card? Why not? Isn't storage tech constantly advancing? Aren't certain types of flash memory relatively fast(why it was probably used previously, and why SSDs etc came about). It's just ensuring it's good and appropriate tech. As for the 50gb etc - if they're sticking with carts/flash style then you won't have to worry as it's its own media(tho tbh I think games will be smaller than this). These are the sort of areas we're all so gray on though - and why we probably need more information. 128gb usb stick is ~£30 on eBuyer. atm I don't know if that translates to anything at all relevant but we've still got months for that to reduce and bulk buys to consider on the storage front. I specifically have always bought 1080p Display/TVs for exactly this reason. I will never go HD Ready/720p. It's silly to limit my capabilities of future technology, imo. The irony is - this is coming from someone who grew up on Nintendo and resultantly is almost absolutely not a graphics nerd(tho I got turned slightly when acquiring a HDTV after owning a 360 for a while). Boyyyy you best not be shitting me with rumours like that! That's the kind of thing Nintendo definitely need to be doing with this to keep a relevance to certain aspects of the market. If they are then I feel it bodes well for other online features as well.
