Microsoft's Peter Moore praises Nintendo's Revolution controller
Mimternet replied to Stocka's topic in Nintendo Gaming
15, 000 trolls, 100 pikmin. In realtime game terms that number isn't going to equate to a transformation in gaming. I don't see anything wrong with controllers, but I have noticed a trend in the games I play. I play less. My first console was Gamegear, I then entered into home console gaming with N64, then Playstation, Dreamcast, PS2 and Gamecube. I've bought around 8 games for my Cube and the same for PS2. That's a limited number in comparison to the previous generations when I bought a game almost every week because they offered something new. Gaming seems to have reached a plateau with few peaks of excitement to stand out. Something needs to change, whether its a controller or the way in which games are made. The Revolution controller makes me excited about the possibilities. I haven't felt that since N64 and DS. Revolution is this feeling but more so. It's what I've always wanted from a console. Maybe not for you, but it's more than marketing spiel. -
lThe area that Revolution will excel at is combining first person shooters and light gun games because it is possible to do both and do both better. That is going to be one of the best gaming experiences ever. If Nintendo never make a game again it would be worth owning Revolution for a deep first person shooter where 'shooter' actually means something.

about that 2-3 times more powerful remark.....
Mimternet replied to wavedash's topic in Nintendo Gaming
We don't know that though because there was never any context for that statement which never actually came from Nintendo. They could mean 2 - 3 times more powerful at generating graphics making it more powerful than both the other consoles. We'll find out at E3, and I doubt Nintendo will disappoint. -

Mimternet replied to wavedash's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Personally I think Revolution will be comparable with XBox 360 in terms of power. Nintendo have never said it will be less powerful, just said power is less important than innovation. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised come E3 2006. 2-3 times more powerful than Gamecube, that's incredibly powerful! As you both mentioned above, 2-3 times more powerful than Resident Evil 4 is easily as good as the screenshots and videos of Resident Evil 5. Xbox says it is 10 times more powerful, but more powerful than what? Both are saying they are more powerful on different statistics. -
1. September US and Japan, Dec / Jan 07 Europe. Although it should be June 05 globally. 2. £200 3. Console, stand, nunchuku combo controller (not shell), motion thingy, adapter! 4. £30 for nunchuku combo. £25 for controller, £10 for analogue. 5. Above, two packages. Shell will be entirely separate. 6. White. 7. White, I want everyone to notice this baby! 8. Metroid. Mario Sunshine destroyed my love of Mario.

Microsoft's Peter Moore praises Nintendo's Revolution controller
Mimternet replied to Stocka's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Please don't feel I'm arguing, I understand these are only my views and I really do welcome other people's ideas. Perhaps I should approach my posts in a different way in future, I am not saying my ideas are definitely going to happen. It's the gaming environment as I see it. I'm not slating the XBox 360 either, I should have mentioned that I think it is a vastly competent system offering great games. I just can't see it being that much of an improvement over the PS2/original XBox to entice enough people into buying it when there are two other consoles on the way. I could be completely wrong, Microsoft may have it spot on with Sony and Nintendo missing the boat by being late and offering a wacked out controller that makes sense to noone. -

Definitely. I am saying it has stolen the thunder out of XBox 360's launch yes, as I think I originally said XBox 360 is very much an upgrade of XBox and nothing more. More powerful games? Check. Better online? Check. Anything else? No. Nintendo's console does all of this and then some. The fact that both Nintendo and Sony, the two veterans, have their consoles out next year creates a wall against XBox. Sony's is the more powerful followup to the most successful console of this generation with more support, Nintendo is the classic gaming console promising a brand new experience never used before in a mass market product - anywhere. Invest now or wait 6 months for one of two machines which either way are going to be superior? I know what I'm waiting for. My PS2 and Gamecube still have life left in them, I can wait for the upgrade. And on a personal note, I am bored of the same old games. I never play fighters anymore because they're all just upgrades of the same thing released 10 years ago. The same is true of many games. So personally Revolution is my top console with PS3 the sure fire winner if I decide I want another experience on top. I don't think I will though once I get a Revolution DVD component. I don't think there can be any doubt. Nintendo have never failed to consistently release top rate games. All of their energies are concentrated on Revolution, more so than any of their consoles before. Plus it's going to be fun to develop for. Fun and skill make for a great combination. No bodies even gone into the online side in detail. Now we can virtual bitch slap people the world over. -

Nintendo are more of a threat to XBox 360 now, they just stole the wind out of the launch and made the console look outdated. -

This is what the smart businesses want people to think. Nintendo is built around caring about games, and that works for me. Microsoft and Sony can hardly slag off the controller as it's flawless (and it is) so the best they can do is look to side with the gob smacked gamers to try and muscle in on some of the attention. To go into a war against Nintendo now when XBox is out soon would be stupid, they can't slag off a controller and claim it to be a gimmic when it is clearly going to change the industry as we know it. The best they can do is "give it kudos" and move on. It also helps them build respect amongst gamers, which they need now desperately. -
I thought he came across as a prat too. Perhaps someone should point out that HIS idea is actually plainly the worst idea known to man! It would mean a new button configuration for nearly every game! So much for simplifying things. It would make no difference how well labelled they are, part of using a pad is becoming accustomed to its button layout so you don't even have to think about pressing the keys. Plus it would be tacky, and annoying to have to keep switching the interface of the pad with different games. And his idea doesn't actually change the way we'd play games. Aside from the mention of a slider it just sounds like rejigging the buttons whenever a developer sees fit. Revolution allows for 1 handed (or 2 handed) control and total immersion. There's simplicity, depth and easy modification around the core control. Perhaps that's WHY Nintendo wouldn't ever get the Top 10 developers to design a controller! haha

I think we'll get the best developer comments in Edge magazine where people will actually understand how good it is and what it can do. They'll no doubt have some who have tested it first hand.

Mario Metroid A new game Followed by at least 1-2 games a month over the next 12 months.

Forget the shell. People seem to completely overlook the fact that the nunchuk combo is the same setup as a standard controller anyway with the buttons in different positions. Sure there are a couple less, but the movement of the controller makes up for a number of buttons. Forget camera buttons, the controller deals with that. Capcom could get Resident Evil 5 running on Revolution with ease and without using the shell. And while they're at it I'd be very surprised if they didn't add extra options in too. The same with all ports. I don't see why people are still concerned about this. Like someone said, if it's a real problem there's "the shell". God I hope that gets a new name soon hehe

Definitley Black & White 2 is perfectly suited to Revolution. Plus the Peter Moleneux guy, however you spell his name, seem positively extatic about Revolution "Never underestimate Nintendo" was his quote.
-
Exactly the same for me. I know it's only been a matter of days but I can already see how limiting previous controllers were in comparison to this. The only thing that might entice me to PS3 (XBox 360 is out of the question for me, it's just a stop gap to PS3) is time. If Revolution isn't released until X-mas 2006, or worse, March 2007 in Europe I don't think I can wait that long for a console upgrade (although obviously I'd still get Revolution when it is released).

Should Wario Ware come free with Every Revolution?
Mimternet replied to Hal_9Million's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I don't think so as Revolution will be cheap anyway and you could probably buy a Revolution, game and extra controller for the same price as a PS3. Nintendo need to make moola quickly. As long as the launch line up is strong and the big name games are there, that's all Revolution needs. -
I can see the Revolution improving all genres, but 1st person shooters will undoubtedly improve ten fold. Looking at this it already makes the existing controller seem limited. Rather than pressing and pointing with buttons and an analogue stick, now you just move your hand like real life. I think the reason why 1st person games (forget shooters, how about a medieval game with sword fights, bows and arrows and axes, even holding the reigns of a horse) will be the most successful is the first thought that comes to mind is virtual reality with this console. With a 1st person view and your actions translating to onscreen movement the immersion into the game environment is the most exciting.

There's been a lot of concern over 3rd party games on the PS3 and XBox 360 coming to Revolution. There's the 'shell' addon in the works. But thinking about it, the nunchuk combination is actually not that different to a standard PS3 and XBox 360 controller besides the look. If the two were taped together with cellotape (not that you'd actually want to do this, but bear with me) they would actually have a similar layout and button configuration as a standard controller. Sure there would be 1 less shoulder button on the right. But the D-pad isn't that different to the standard 4 button configuration usually found on the right, plus you have the large A action button. The C-stick is effectively the controller when you move it around. Thinking about this, it will be better for controlling cameras as it will be more precise. Rather than judging difference with camera work on a C-stick, you actually point at the direction you want to look. Plus there's the added bonus of being able to zoom in and zoom out by moving your hand in and out. Usually the zoom function is relegated to a shoulder button or two. Now you don't need these buttons which is why there's one less on the right. Perhaps this will remove some people's concerns, it certainly has mine. Any more thoughts?

Agreed. Cheap! I want it cheap! And Nintendo never fail to offer value for money.

I still don't understand the problem, I didn't like the wait but I never doubted that Nintendo would produce a good console and the I don't see a big need for a classic add on when we knew at E3 this year that the Gamecube controller was compatible. Saying many of the press are still confused is a bit of a generalisation. Again, they don't need to fully understand until E3 2006. All they need to know is that this controller is doing something new and so far it works with Nintendo doing their upmost to make sure it is the best thing since fire.
-
Revolution still wouldn't be out until 2006 whether they unveiled the controller at E3 or next year's E3. It makes no difference. In fact, they couldn't have timed it better. They've had two Revolution launches and the games are still to come. Besides, focusing on the add on to play old games misses the point entirely. We don't need to see that controller to know it is possible. The point of Revolution is something NEW and REVOLUTIONARY. Also, I don't think they made the press worry because the press didn't know anything. They may have made the stupid members of the press worry, but any intelligent press person would have know to wait and see. Patience is a virtue.

Definitely on the cover of Edge and the majority of gaming magazines. It should feature on the front of some gadget magazines too. It's incredibly gadgety, which is why I think its appeal will continue to increase. It already made it onto the majority of UK news sites like BBC and Sky - I wonder if any newspapers got hold of it? It's like a techno bomb waiting to go off. We're all at the epi-centre and the shockwaves are about to be felt around the globe. It's also worth noting that just as XBox 360 is primed for global launch the Revolution will be making headlines everywhere in mags. With the impending launch of PS3 and Revolution in around 6 months after the XBox 360 release it will certainly make people question their Microsoft purchase. 1 competitor down... I'm willing to bet money on XBox coming last this generation, and quicker than people think. Yes, it will have a good launch, but my personal prediction is that they will stop sharply after Christmas.

People Haven't Grasped the Magnitude of Revolution
Mimternet replied to Mimternet's topic in Nintendo Gaming
You bring up a very interesting point. We know developers will be familiar with programming for Revolution because Nintendo have said it works in a very similar way. The fact that the majority of developers will be familiar with the controlling device from the way they previously made games should make the transition even smoother. Nice one Hal_9.
