  1. So anyone excited about the new NVIDIA series of graphics cards? They will first release the RTX 2080TI, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070. New is the use of RT cores for ray-tracing, improving lightning and shadow effects.

    From a Dutch techsite:

      RTX 2080 Ti RTX 2080 RTX 2070 GTX 1080 Ti GTX 1080 GTX 1070

    Introduction price ($) 999 / 1199 699 / 799 499 / 599 699 599 / 699 399 / 499

I'm currently running on a GTX970 and it still runs what I want it to run. Prices also seem steep compared to previous releases. But who knows, soon I'll be behind 2 generations. And maybe this is a good time to upgrade or buy a 10XX series second-hand.

I did check if my old GBA was fully operational (in other words I had to find my AC adapter for it). I'm going for the authentic and classic experience. I mean, My Micro is better, but it's a fun excuse to give my first GBA some love again. Just need to make sure I'm playing directly under a light.

Holy crap, you have a Micro? I'm no collector, but that thing is just so charming, I would love to get my hands on one someday. Epic!

Anyway, fired up my trusty DS Lite with Warioland 4 in the slot. It had two save games, a completed Hard mode and a just started Super Hard mode. Didn't even remember there to be a super hard mode!

Wiped the Hard mode and started a new game on Normal, as I'm not feeling to well and wanted to play a bit casually. It's great playing this game again; there is so much I have forgotten about it and lovely to see your memory and fondness of it return! I've finished the Emerald and Ruby passages, so onwards to the next.

  3. I've played the beta for I think an hour or so. Wished I could have played longer, but I had a busy weekend without much gaming time!

First of all the game looks gorgeous. It really is an impressive port, I have seen a side-by-side comparison with a console version (XBox One or PS4) and I could hardly distinguish any differences. The art style is great; it comes so close to how the anime looks. The little conversations between characters before every match and the cutscenes when pulling off a special move really add to the feeling of playing an anime episode.

Gameplay-wise I can't say too much since I played only for a short amount. I did two trainings (one of the special moves), so I learned how to charge and how to pull off a Kamehameha so I blasted my first two opponents quite easy. After that I won a few, lost a few. I think there is a lot of depth in the fighting, with combos, countering, specials, switching characters etc. What I really noticed is that I was missing a good D-Pad. I played in handheld with attached joy-cons and with the Pro Controller docked, but pulling off special moves never felt really good. Didn't try the easy mode though.

Saturday I played a little bit more, but that's when the disconnects started happening. Don't know if they were intentional or server issues. I also played one match that really stuttered, a lot of lag. Also not a fan of a matchmaking system, but I don't know if it will be different/better in the full game.

So I don't know if I'll get it. I love the franchise; currently watching Dragon Ball Super and I've seen a lot of the other series as well. The game looks stunning. But with it's focus on mostly online I don't know if I have the time to invest in getting good. I'm not a King of Fighters so usually I suck in this genre and I like to play it casually. But it is Dragon Ball, it is a 2D fighter and it is looking so good! Wish I could demo some more...

  4. Round 2 of the Summer Sale is live, including discounts on Metroid: Samus Returns, Tomodachi, Ever Oasis and Kirby Planet Robobot. I hope I can find some of those discounts on the physical releases.

Luigi: 1983-2018.  Gone but not... wait, who was that green guy again?

You mean that Mario Echo character? Yeah I don't know who they based it on. I think there once was a green Mario with a bad moustache or something...

I was reading the Overcooked thread on Era and they were saying that a few reviews mention that the main issue with the Switch version is the lack of voice chat. I gave NintendoLife's review a read and they said this...

I mentioned that the review on here correlates with what other reviews are saying and NL seems to be the only ones who are claiming the game has voice chat. Even the official FAQ from the developers state that there's no voice chat in the Switch version.

Seems like NL may have cocked up their review.

Looks like NL edited their review as it now mentions you need Discord which wasn't there before. Sneaky sneaky.

  7. It's up for preorder for €50, that seems pretty steep right?

Played but never finished the DS version, I don't know why because of what I can remember I liked it.

Anyone played the android/iOS version? I wonder how that compares. And how they translated this dual screen multi input game to touch only in the first place.

  8. This game is looking so good. The only point is I usually don't play fighters a lot (only in short bursts) so I'm not sure if I can justify the full pricepoint. Especially with a couple of more budget fighters releasing on the Switch as well to choose from.

Then again, this does look like the better game, plus it is of a franchise I really like. Which reminds me I still have Xenoverse 1 still hardly played on Steam. While I really liked Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on Wii a lot, I never really have gotten into it. FighterZ appeals a lot more as it is 2D.

Anyone played it on other platforms already? How is it for single player/story mode?

Who's actually getting this? And who of you are total noobs when it comes to Monster Hunter?

I'm somewhat interested, but not sure if I want to actually get into this now.

When it first got announced I really wanted it. Quite soon after I thought, well, I have had a bit of overkill with playing MH Tri, 3 Ultimate, 4 Ultimate and Generations which for my feeling came quite close after each other, especially if you see how much time goes into it. So skipping MHGU.

But now the day is coming closer I can feel the thrill of the hunt again. Seeing movies like the one above definitely helps! Plus I want to play a MH game on a large screen again. Plus dual analogue sticks, even in handheld! So yeah, I'm getting this! So Agnaktors, hide your Uroktors, it is ON! :D

  10. Thanks for the games @Sméagol and @Nintendo Fan, woohoo! It is definitely more fun to play with people you know.

    ---

I really like the game, but there is also much that can be improved. It plays great, and I really have the feeling that I can improve a lot. Learning what all the abilities are of the different champions and to what keys they are bound to (it happens so often that I fire missiles instead of activating my shield...). The action is nice and quick, plenty of variation between the champs, and plenty to unlock (like the four abilities you can choose from at the start of the match).

I won't go for the Champions pack, as I like saving gold to unlock that champion that you really want. In the long run I will probably regret it as prices are pretty steep, but on the other hand now the roster is pretty limited which I actually like, so I can try out everyone in an easy pace.

Maybe I'll go for the Season Pass, but I need to look into what it offers. I must say this part is a little bit confusing, plus they go quite overboard with steering you towards purchases. Every time you level up the Battle Pass level, it asks you if you want to buy it. Next to that you can unlock champions, skins, mounts, exclusives and the whatnot. Plus you can also buy those lootboxes. They really have thrown in every microtransaction model they could think of.

The presentation is allright but I think the menus are a bit confusing as well. Going in-game is not a big problem, but the other menus feel mixed up. Like going to the shop for the Daily Reward, but other missions displayed in another menu. Various tabs per menu which you need to scroll through.

The Champions themselves are nice but also a bit cliché and they don't appeal to me as much as for example the ones from League Of Legends or Dota2. Then again I have that problem with every other moba game than those 2. :p

Loading and preparing times are already discussed and yeah they could fix this. Jump to customize your champion as soon as everyone has selected a champ could cut times. And with Onslaught, why the hell am I waiting 50 seconds before the game starts? And then you get thrown on a mount which is first of all silly (Ruckus on a horse...), and totally obsolete since the distance to the center is not that big.

Yeah some things they may fix but others they probably won't, as the game is out already a while on different platforms and I don't see them drastically overhauling stuff that they do in the other versions. So a lot to complain about, but I like the fast paced action and the variety, trumping Fortnite in the free-to-play shooter genre. :)

TL;DR: Great game with some quality issues.
