  1. Usually I play my first match with Samus, but after that anything can happen. Although I have some preferences (played a lot with Robin, Palutena, Kirby and Mega Man in Smash 4) I also fancy trying others. And with this roster there are a lot of fighters which really appeal to me.

But I've never played online a lot, so it may be a good idea to have at least some top characters if I ever want to win a match. I played Brawl and Melee local multiplayer, but that was against friends who didn't own the game so that gave me a little bit of a headstart.

  2. Yeah I've read all those. Like I said they explain the basics (running, shielding, weapons etc.) but my confusion was mostly with magic. Might have been especially because I play pyromancer and my firebombs (picked those as starting item) look like fireballs which seems logical for a pyromancer. Ah well, I will find new bombs I'm sure.

What character(s) are you playing @Sméagol (and any other people still playing this)?

I wonder how they adjusted Kirby, will check that out later as he’s the only fighter I’ve used him in this game yet.

Haha I'm loving this. There are two types of Smash players: people who use the same character every time or people who switch after every match. I'm the latter, even in WoL I mix it up a lot.

Love the game so far, although it's not a game I can play for a long time in one go (except in multiplayer). Most of my time is in World of Light and Classic Mode. World of Light does get a bit repetitive, but it's fun to mess around with the spirits. Especially starting with a drill in hand has led to some matches ending rather quickly. Classic mode is great as well, with the personalized journey for every character.

I've unlocked around 20 characters I think, so still a long way to go. I never touched Smash 4 DLC, so those characters are new to me too. I really like those new additions. Ryu is good, Inkling is nice, and K. Rool is a beast! But the most love goes to Simon, he has a great set of ranged attacks, packs a decent punch and I just love his strut.

But I think the game will shine in the long run. With DLC to come it gives it plenty of lifespan, and I hope they create some Splatfest/Party Crash events to draw players in on certain days. What I'm missing most from online is the option to quicly see if friends have a room open, or to send out a notification among friends that a room is open. I've seen 6 people at once playing Smash in my friends list, but no way to see if they are playing online with a room open.

  4. So I've picked Dark Souls up this week and played it for about 1,5 hours yesterday. I have never played a Dark Souls game before, but I like the setting and from what I've read it has this Monster Hunter-ish thing where it's important to learn the moves of the enemy. So I thought yeah this could be for me! Got it second hand as well for a good price so if it's not I can sell it on without any loss.

Decided to start as the pyromancer; I like having some ranged attacks next to my close combat options. I walked into the first boss, panicked and died. :p Made my way out of the Asylum and I'm now at the Firelink Shrine. Liking what I've played so far. The setting is great, I like the prospect of taking on monsters 10 times my size, and I can see that there will be quite a level of depth in it.

I had some trouble at the start though. First of all the notorious A-B button switch. God that's horrible. But there is also a very sparce introduction to the mechanics. Sure they tell you how to swing a weapon and how to block. But I figured Y button was using magic; instead I used up all of my bombs... Now I've arrived at Firelink there are a number of options at the bonfire: levelling up, hollowing, un-hollowing, attune magic etc. What? Guess I'll figure it out on the go as I don't want to look it anything up because it feels good going into a game without much knowledge about it. Funny as I've seen it pop up a lot, seen dozens of Praise The Sun memes. But I never looked into it as I didn't have a PS or XBox, and it's not a franchise I was interested in for PC.

Just watched Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Absolutely LOVED it! It's got mixed reviews and I understand why but I adored it. It had the charm of Fantastic Beasts and added more to the Harry Potter world too

Went to see it yesterday and yes it was good! Not great good but very entertaining, and I love how they start connecting to the Harry Potter timeline. Some subtle and not so subtle nods to the main series. What I missed was a general story; part one had the introduction of the setting and the characters, and the whole Creedence story and finding the beasts back. But here it was a lot of setting up, and I missed a story within the bigger story so to say. Still loved it though.

Only don't know why it is called The Crimes Of Grindelwald? I haven't really seen him do that much criminal stuff besides

escaping prison, and clearing off a bunch of Aurors in the end. Holding a rally is not really a crime now is it? Or are they referring back to his crimes in Europe for which he got arrested in the first place? Still a silly name.

And God I love Godzilla movies. Very interested to see how King Of Monsters turns out.

  6. I've pre-ordered my physical copy yesterday. Was thinking about digital but for some reason Smash DS never clicked and I sold it later on. In the weird case that Ultimate doesn't click as well (loved Melee and Brawl) I can still sell it.

Anyway, my weekend is quite empty so I should be able to get some hours in!

Oh, and I guess spoiler tags as soon as it is out?

Should be an option to toggle in your wireless router’s settings. Keep in mind however that some devices cannot connect to a 5GHz signal, it’s generally just older/cheaper phones and tablets, although I also realised recently that the PS4 can’t either. :heh:

Anyway, run the Switch’s internet test while on 2.4GHz wi-fi, take note of the results, and then if you can activate 5GHz, run the test again on that to see the difference. Chances are you’ll get at least double the download speed, and potentially 3 or 4 times more!

@Jonnas, I think nowadays most routers that support dualband have both options on by default. This means that in your network you will probably see 2 options. XXXXXXXXX_2.4 and XXXXXXXXX_5 for example. Then it is just a matter of connecting with the 5GHz option. And may be good to take into account that 5GHz is faster and less crowded, but the wavelength is different which means that 5GHz "carries" less far. So if your Switch is far away from the router or there are walls/doors between the router and the Switch 5GHz might get a worse signal. Then it is a matter of testing which one works best for you.

I see. How much is a screen protector supposed to cost? I see prices that vary between 5,99€ (Subsonic) and 14,99€ (Bigben). Not sure what kind of brand is trustworthy.

I have a plastic one on now that is also scratched, but I'm glad it is the protector and not my screen. I'm going to replace it with a tempered glass one, and I've read that this is a good option: https://www.amazon.de/Displayschutzfolie-für-Nintendo-Switch-Glassschutzfolien/dp/B01N9RG3XS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1543910215&sr=8-3&keywords=switch+screen+protector

As for sales there are some games on discount weekly (I usually put them up on the main site every thursday). And quite often Nintendo has a big sale, with great discounts on indies and fair discounts on their first party titles. You just missed the Black Friday one but there will probably be another one in december. They also had one around Halloween and in the summer.

So, I've been kinda sleeping on it, but... I'm now the proud owner of a Nintendo Switch :) Managed to find a good deal for it during Black Friday (299€ for Switch+Mario Odyssey), and I pre-ordered Smash Bros while I was at it (because the same store was offering a 10€ discount for that).

Just vinculated my Nintendo Account to the Switch, added a bunch of stuff onto my wishlist, and plan on getting online when Smash Bros comes home. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Any small tips or info I should be aware of?

Welcome to the club! I don't know if dock scratching is still an issue, but I have it and therefore use as screen protector. The Switch's glass is just plastic and not fancy phone Gorilla Glass or something so it scratches quite easy. I hate screen protectors but made an exception for the Switch.

Oh, and by the time you're online add your friend code to this topic!

I'm suspecting save it is the more popular choice..

I had the same idea. Thanks for the games, Splatoon remains such a fun game to play, too bad I rarely play it with friends as that makes it even better.

    Anyway:

That ball explosion was nasty, pushing me right off the edge.

  11. If you ever feel like you could do without that shiny Oddish and want to trade it, call me! I don't have this nickname for nothing :p

I've completed the first gym yesterday, and decided to at least catch a Bulbasaur before I headed onwards. Got a 13 chain with Caterpies and one showed up.

Can't wait to play on, don't have time today but will play a lot of it tomorrow and in the weekend. I think I'm going for either an Alolan team, or a team of Pokémon I've never used before. And in the post game I'll rebuild my original Blue team with some good stat 'Mon.
