Miyamoto said it himself, the E3 conference was aimed for the mainstream audience. I'm sure they will have a Fall Conference aimed for the more hardcore like last year (when they announced WiiWare). I'm expecting to see Disaster: Day of Crisis, Kirby Wii, Kid Icarus and a new Intelligent Systems game.

I'm looking forward to the next IGN podcast

Why do people seem suprised at game announcments?
Ren of Heavens replied to Drift's topic in Nintendo Gaming
It looks like Nintendo are making successors to all their major franchises this generation. What we got so far: Super Mario Galaxy Zelda: Twilight Princess Super Smash Bros. Brawl Metroid Prime 3 Super Paper Mario Mario Kart Wii WarioWare: Smooth Moves Mario Strikers Charged Excite Truck Battalion Wars 2 Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree Donkey Kong Barrel Blast Pokemon Battle Revolution Mario Party 8 Dr. Mario Online RX Mario Super Sluggers Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Announced: Animal Crossing: City Folk Pikmin 3 Wario Land: The Shake Dimension Kirby Wii What's missing: Kid Icarus - rumoured to be made by Factor 5 Mother/Earthbound - maybe done by Monolith? F-Zero - made by Sega again? Pilotwings Star Fox 1080 Snowboarding Luigi's Mansion -
It's confirmed and they're working on it now, that's the most important thing. Don't really need a trailer or anything.

Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop (BEST NAME EVER?!)
Ren of Heavens replied to Boomstick's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Again, the clock speed is only useful when comparing similiar processors, as it is very possible for one processor to do more at 1 MHz than another at 4 MHz. Remember the PS2 is only 294 MHz... But yeah, Dead Rising will probably be cut down a bit. Less zombies seems likely. Anyways, I hope this is the start of a trend of 360/PS3-ports instead of PS2-ports... -

They both have out-of-order execution: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out-of-order_execution I'm talking about 1-core performance of course (when multiple cores are utilized the Wii comes nowhere close). -

It doesnt make sense comparing clock frequency in such different architectures. The X360 has an uses in-order CPU architecture while Wii uses out-of-order CPU (similar to for instance Intel Core 2 Duo). In short, this means the Wii CPU can do much more per cycle (Hz) compared to the others, so the actual performance difference is not that big, probably no more than 2:1 in favor of X360. Then you have the resolution. 480p requires a lot less power than 720p. -
I guess they mean spring next year. Screenshots

"Sold separately for a suggested price of $29.99, the WiiSpeak peripheral is not handheld or tethered to a headset, but instead acts more like a speaker phone. Animal Crossing: City Folk is set for release November 16."

Wesley: I'm excited about this, but I agree with you, this should have been included in the Wiimote from day 1. Same with wireless nunchuck.

I think EA announced a few months ago that Tiger Woods 09 would have 1:1 response as far as I remember... Might be a sign third party titles with WMP is already in development.

Wow, cool! Didn't expect that. Hopefully it costs less than £30. Otherwise it might be expensive to upgrade all 4 controllers.
-
Hopefully a cut-down Flock version for WiiWare.

Guitar Hero is casual in the way that it reaches a new audience not usually interested in games. I know people who bought a PS2, their first console ever, just to play it. Same with Wii Sports, Singstar and Buzz.

It's so interesting the medium can offer so many different things for different people... Game world: A believable, cohesive, interactive game world. Ocarina of Time, Shenmue, GTA III comes to mind. The graphics, the sounds, the music and the gameplay must work as a whole and fit the game world. Games that you feel are more than just... games. I just read an article that divided gamers into 4 categories: - Killers (multiplayer type of gamer, focus on competing with other players) - Achivers (focus on achieving goals, gathering points etc. in games) - Socializers (have fun and interact with others) - Explorers (likes to interact with the game world) I'm definitely leaning to the explorer type here.

I guess Smash Bros. Brawl covers this summer... Wario Land could be fun and I might pick up Tiger Woods this year.

"27/06/2008: Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles" WTF?

Wow, what a list. I understand the originality factor, but Wolf3D on the list and Goldeneye no. 1? That's just crazy. My top 10: 1. Half-Life 2 2. Doom 3. Halo 4. Half-Life 5. Goldeneye 6. Quake 7. Soldier of Fortune 8. Unreal Tournament 9. Duke Nukem 3D 10. Perfect Dark * Haven't played Bioshock or CoD4 yet

"The game has picked up a new subtitle -- Call of Duty: World at War. As the subtitle suggests (and as was rumored late last year), the series is going back to the World War II setting, specifically revolving around the Pacific theater. Also as previously rumored, development duties have been hot-potatoed back over to Treyarch, makers of Call of Duty 3. World at War will be the first Call of Duty to feature co-op play through the campaign, and multiplayer will focus on squad-based elements and vehicular combat. Formats revealed were as expected: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. A different team within Treyarch is exclusively tasked to the Wii version, which is apparently running on the CoD4 engine. The Wii Zapper will also reportedly be incorporated. If you think another tour of duty in WWII seems far past the point of redundancy, you may be relieved to know that Treyarch at least seems to be trying to put a new spin on the familiar setting. According to a separate article in Official Xbox Magazine (via Joystiq), the developer claims that they want to "explore the darkest corners of WWII," and make the game more of a survival horror experience." http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168156 Seems pretty promising. No PS2 port to worry about and the CoD4 engine is great.

Probably just Curse of Darkness with waggle support.

Do you like your wii as much as your gamecube.
Ren of Heavens replied to mcj metroid's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Kind of ironic...despite Wii being the most successfull Nintendo console since NES many hardcore Nintendo gamers have for the first time bought another console (X360 or PS3). -

As it's only been 18 months we should compare with what GC had to offer in its first 18 months: Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II Super Smash Bros. Melee Super Monkey Ball Pikmin Wave Race: Blue Storm Luigi's Mansion Metroid Prime Super Mario Sunshine Resident Evil Resident Evil 0 Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem TimeSplitters 2 Animal Crossing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 & 4 Zelda: The Wind Waker Ikaruga Skies of Arcadia Legends I was definitely more excited at the Wii launch with a brand new Zelda and the exciting controller and whole new gameplay with Wii Sports. When it comes to first party support I would say they're about as good, but GC had significantly better 3rd party support. So judging by the first 18 months I would say GC was perhaps a bit better, but Wii will probably have a lot better support in its third, fourth and fifth year compared to GC. -
The visuals aren't worth mentioning, but Wii is not about graphics anyway. Finally a promising new IP that's exclusive to Wii.

Hang on: Wii is owning all, where are the games?
Ren of Heavens replied to ultrajamie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Even the sales flop Gamecube had more third party backup in terms of quality and exclusives: Capcom with Resident Evil remake, RE0, the fantastic RE4 and Viewtiful Joe (the latter two was at least exclusive for some time). Sega with Super Monkey Ball, Namco with Tales of Symphonia and Factor 5 with the Rogue Leader games. It also had some fine multiplatform titles like Soul Calibur II, SSX3, Prince of Persia, Timesplitters 2, Burnout 2, Beyond Good And Evil etc. -
My guess: Flash memory has become so cheap so they have upgraded it from 512 MB to 16 GB. No change in price. People with obsolete Wii can buy external 16 GB USB flash drive for £99.
