The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Marcamillian replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
This is actually what made me laugh when miyamoto and anouma did the gameplay thing (last year?) They were saying about how excited they were that epona avoided stuff - agro did that quite some time ago. The idea of taking out the flow breaking "hit a tree and put your steed in reverse" is bang on though. By putting in a little bit of path finding on the horse you can focus on the surroundings/enemies. All those times running into walls whilst trying to aim an arrow. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk Despite what I said - the bosses in TP were astounding. I wouldn't complain if they were thrown in as a bonus :p Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk -

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Marcamillian replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
There are only 2 things I really want from the new Zelda game - keep the good work structure wise from a link between worlds - get some good NPC's in there Whatever the platform or power (though they have painted themselves into a corner with the demo they showed) - for me the NPCs are what are memorable rather than dungeons. Nico/Tetra from Windwaker, untold numbers of characters from OoT/MM. This is where TP and SS fell down for me. Large worlds but I didn't feel much connection to anyone (though Midna was pretty cool). Finding jugglers spouting nonsence, builders contemplating life & death, Sleepy ranch owners getting undermined by their mustachio'd employees. Get that right and I'm in Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk -
Best comment on the subject of the pokemon thing - we need more of this thinking. How can you make the best of a situation you think is problematic. Serebii was not as clear as he wanted to be regarding the spin-off thing. As much as he wanted to the comments did come off as "it won't work and a spin off is acceptable to me I guess". If he had (or someone else engaged him about) what he would like to see it would have pushed everything in a better direction. Positivity isn't just saying good things (about Nintendo) - its finding the good/helpful way of having the same discussion even if it is about something that isn't right. I'm interested! Count me in for Sunday Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk

In all honesty you are likely right - I just wonder if your closeness to the competitive scene maybe affects your reading of the general situation/proportion of those that play it essentially single player. I admit there would be issues to iron out - in that specific case making other players non-blocking - but many others more serious too but can you see no redeeming quality to an over world populated with players? Not meaning to stir anything - just to mention - @Serebii - the portable aspects may not be a deal for everyone. If you consider the number of games sold vs. the people showing up to events/meetups - there are plenty of people that play it as a single player experience or at least don't see it as such a core feature. Also - the 3DS does have online but not all the time where it is being played - which would make it hard to build key features (like an mmo type experience) into a handheld game. In this vein - how about users being able to set up their own gyms? Custom made badges. Taking on apprentices/lackies for your gym. Instead of grinding on wild pokemon you can train in the gym and go up the ladder - becoming the preceding trainers to the leader Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk

This said with the 3D presentation in the newer games it isn't sprites any more but drawing one sprite takes the same power as another of the same size. I would assume it to be more a deal of storage space if anything. I wasn't aware of the radar stuff - sounds like they do want to make that change then! Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk

The first point - I'm nor sure if that's more a design decision. Being able to see which Pokémon is in the grass changes your relation to to the situation. There is a risk reward when looking for a particular Pokémon with the current system. Not saying that the other way is bad, just that it changes the design. It could also be said that the proposed system would save frustration having to run when it isn't the one you want. The flying an riding sprites - is a strange one to have another sprite/animation doesn't seem like its beyond a system comparable with the power of an N64+. The emotion thing - I would say that I'm not sure this is a console thing. SNES era rpg's often seem to have some of the most emotional impact with very similar presentation to most pokemon games. Bearing in mind the current issues I just wanted to highlight - you could explain your reasoning without declaring people mental. It doesn't add to a discussion. As to the point at hand. I'm going to assume the thread was referring to an main line game rather than spin offs. The feeling I'm getting from the thread is the visual fidelity that can be gained from the home console version. The thing I'm more aware of is the gameplay implication. By its nature pokemon is something you spend a lot of time with. Handhelds give you a wider range of places you can play and more potential time. This is the main advantage of handheld for me. (That said the counterpoint to this is that people sped 100s of hours in something like skyrim). In terms of benefits home console could bring. A reliable internet connection seems to be the most impactful. Bringing the dream of mmo that most people have wanted for years. Bring able to battle people in world without a discrete place you battle. The other thing that would be cool that might be more doable on home console is real time events - storylines introduced after release to encourage end game play beyond battling alone. Gaming Podcasts: A Thread about Listening to Others
Marcamillian replied to Goron_3's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Skimmed the thread - jsut wanted to throw this out there for the PC gamers out there - http://crateandcrowbar.com/ Some guys that used to do the PC Gamer podcast (I mainly got into it through Tom Francis who made gunpoint) being on it. -
To instantly say "I understand your point but disagree" wouldn't be the most interesting thing in the world but preferable to the alternative. The way it seems at the moment is that when people do disagree it envelops the thread. I feel the pain of those (sorry I don't remember names - couldn't see the names/avatars when scrolling on my phone) that try to make points only for them to be buried in the fervent argument of two people getting more heated than they need be. With two people shouting at each other in a room others can't be heard and nobody else can talk. At least people agreeing to disagree lets other people have a conversation.

@Ronnie I know we don't know each other but in reading the thread - being a fan of Nintendo at any point has been characterised by people labeling them "kiddy" without really finding anything out about the games. I can understand your frustration at the perceived dichotomy in "samey" statements about the libraries on both of the consoles. What I would say is - when you were disappointed with the games on the ps4, did you ask for recomendations on the other consoles board? (I honestly don't know but I'm sure people could have reccomended some stuff that you might have liked). It sounds like its the fact that people are happy with hyperbole (positive or negative) rather than looking for nuance

Sorry Goafer - he needs a Coke Zero if he wants sex in a Porsche. If he wants to oggle topless men whilst watching his figure he'll want a Diet Coke. I don't believe they have a brand for confusion quite yet - maybe a vitaminwater "focus" strawberry-kiwi to replace some vitamin a

I'm up for playing again when this hiatus finishes. I'm also planning out an Pen and paper RPG so I'm going to spruce up and finalise ideas I had a while ago to run one.

I think that taking 2 words out of 250+ in a statement to try to discredit it could be a little short sighted. (not meant as antagonistic as it sounds just enjoyed flipping it round). He may have phrased it in an inelegant way but would you care to criticise the point he is making rather than the specific phrasing? He's not written an essay, he's trying to convey something in a relatively quick and punchy way. By placing "The Avertisers" & "Fuck that" in larger font almost gives a summary of the piece whilst having it in the flow of the argument. He's admittedly gone for shocking (it those worlds are even shocking any more when you compare them to what you hear/use in everyday conversation), but that is going to hold more attention and draw people into the rest of the text than "no thanks". I'm all one for personal responsibility but advertising directly to peoples insecurities is something that is assumed in today's world and pointing it out is valuable to people. As I've said before - voicing it in a more high-minded "intellectual" manner might just miss its intended audience.

The question seems to be whether you feel that he consciously advertises with the intent of selling work for financial gain. Otherwise could it be analogous to a Hollywood movie start promoting a cause? They use their profile to put a message out there that would be lost without their profile. It may be fair criticism that UNICEF ambassadors are doing it for their ticket sales. I suppose one differentiation is in the fact that that Banksy is displaying these messages through his primary skill/talent rather than movie stars appearing and talking not acting.
