Because as far as the UK goes, they just didn't bother one bit. I can count the WiiU TV ads I actually saw on one hand.
-
That's a game I've always wanted to try, @Dcubed has a copy, maybe I should rent it without having to pay a fee.
-
In video form. Definitely in video form. And none of that crappy "Holding a phone camera in portrait mode" BS.
-
They would, I wouldn't use that Genesect for anything other than battling with friends.
-
No, that's the largely pointless Pikachu from ORAS. This new Pikachu has hats! And a unique Z-Move. Still gonna be mostly pointless though.
-
Some crappy Bulbapedia rip-off site. I think someone on here runs it, but I'm not too sure... @Serebii, who runs that site again?
-
I just heard the title theme for this game. It sounds like Vic Reeves singing the FE theme for Shooting Stars! Hilarious! This game now has a way to entertain me.
-
Yup. As a reminder of why I shouldn't just buy any old crap at a console's launch with Pokemon slapped on it.
-
I keep every single one. I just know I'd regret selling any of them.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is a 3DS port of the PS2 game that came out in 2006. It's a traditional turn-based RPG. The plot follows some bloke who works for the King of Trodain. Problem is, the Kingdom of Trodain kinda has a horrible curse on it, as well as the King and Princess, who have been transformed into some kind of monster and a horse. Luckily, Mr. Bloke wasn't affected by the curse, so he's journeying with Monster King and Horse Princess to stop Dhoulmagus, the guy who started this mess. It's a pretty typical RPG story, like most Dragon Quest games, nothing wrong with that, but don't expect anything amazing. Unlike most Dragon Quest games, however, this one has voice acting. I'm not gonna lie, given the variety of different accents the Dragon Quest NPC's talk in, I was a bit worried that this game wouldn't do it justice, but thankfully, I had nothing to worry about. The voice acting is top-notch. Mainly because of European voice actors. The whole Xenoblade approach, works like a charm! Speaking of. Same voice actor, noticed it instantly, very funny. There really isn't much to say about the gameplay that I didn't already cover with Dragon Quest 7. If you like Turn-based RPG's, you can't go wrong. Thankfully, the 3DS port allows you to speed up battles, much like Bravely Default. It's much appreciated, because otherwise, the game would go pretty slow! Faster battles aren't all the improvements the 3DS has. Some new sidequests, new dungeons, even some new playable characters. It means there's quite a lot to do in this game. The 3D effect is incredibly limited, which is a bit of a shame. But other than that, it's a very pretty game. Not amazing, but pretty. The soundtrack also holds up well, but like the 3DS port of Dragon Quest 7, it's been re-recorded MIDI style, which, once again, is odd. If you missed the Genesect distribution last year, you can get one now by using the code "GENESECT2016" in Mystery Gift. It won't work if you already got one.

Yes, and? Are you trying to suggest that this subscription fee isn't going to make money? Because instead of using money from sales of games, consoles and accessories to run this infrastructure, they're using money you're giving them through this fee. And the rental games have about as much value as a rental from Blockbuster. None at all.
-
They aren't free! Stop claiming they are! It's a bloody rental service! And when did I say running an online infrastructure costs nothing? You are putting words in my mouth! The profits from selling games, consoles and accessories should go towards running an online infrastructure, like it always bloody has!
-
OK, now I'm insulted. I am many things, but entitled isn't one of them. Here's a mental idea, perhaps paying £280 quid for their console entitles me to a bloody basic feature that's been available for the past two generations! On cheaper hardware to boot! What about all the times I paid full retail price to download a digital copy of a game? The only online games I ever really played last gen on the WiiU were Mario Kart and Smash. I bought Smash for 45 quid, with this "service" (and I use that term very loosely) I would have had to shell out £70 to get the full featured version, for a year. And then the online functionality is snatched away until I cough up another 25 quid. Screw. That. You know what's worse than entitlement? People buying this whole "the fee helps to upkeep the servers" shenanigan. The servers have been working completely fine since the Wii days. But because weak-willed gamers made Sony and Microsoft bank, Ninty are following suit. If you think this is anything other than a money-making scheme, you're deluded.
-
Bull! It's exactly that kind of thinking that's got us into this situation. So why exactly do PC gamers not have to pay to play online? What makes their servers different? You claim I'm being entitled, but when I pay 50-60 quid for a game that focuses on the online multiplayer aspect, it's kinda a big massive slap in the face to then be told, "Oh, BTW, you have to pay a monthly fee to enjoy that particular feature" I suppose if you bought a nice shiny new bicycle and then were told that you had to pay £1.50 a month so you could use it in your local park, you'd be fine with it? Because those parks cost money to upkeep, don't they? No, you wouldn't be fine with it. Because that's bloody stupid. And you have to be a bit of a dope to think the "free" VC game makes it worth it. Yeah, you might have had a point if you could keep it. Big fat shame that you only rent it. You're doing what I do to @Dcubed all the time, except you're paying for the benefit! Go you! There's no justifying this. It's pure greed.
-
Yeah, it's completely optional.
-
That doesn't make it OK. It's just a greedy scheme that has now become the norm in console gaming because people just "had no choice". They totally had a choice, they could have called Microsoft out on it's crap and not throw money at them. This is why PC gaming is winning, guys! All you who are saying stuff along the lines of "That sounds like a good price" need a good slap!
-
That subscription is about 25 quid too much. I'm a little saddened that gamers just about rolled over and accepted Microsoft's pay-to-play scheme. And then when Sony followed suit, the same thing happened again. And now it's going to happen with Ninty, I can just feel it.
-
I'm not so sure about that. In handheld mode, it looks just like another tablet. I doubt it'll turn many heads. (Unless you turn the volume up, but doing that on a bus makes you the worst kind of twat) The only way I could see it getting a lot of notice is if you bust out tabletop mode, but unless you've got access to one of those trains with tables, you're not doing that easily.
-
Said like a proper Londoner! See, you can just tell reading some of the comments above who doesn't live in London. Tablets are everywhere on Public Transport and no-one gives a toss.
-
I would have bought it despite the battle mode. Battle mode has never been that fun for me. Portability was the selling point for me. But then we found out that online play will be locked behind a subscription paywall. Now my interest is at absolute zero.

Was it you who wrote the WiiU fortune cookie in Animal Crossing: New Leaf?

I think you're looking too hard into this.

Gaming storylines that have stayed with you
Glen-i replied to dan-likes-trees's topic in Other Consoles
I really like the story in Mother 3. One of the best RPG stories I've experienced. I'm also gonna give a shout to all 4 Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. They hammer home the power of friendship a bit too much, but they have some great twists and some surprisingly dark turns to them, seeing as they're Pokemon games. One of those literally involves a Suicide Cult. -
It's the only Rockstar game I ever finished. So that's gotta count for something. It was OK.
