Probably worth noting that Capcom was really lukewarm about Switch support when it first came out. Took them years to bother with localising a 3DS Monster Hunter re-release outside of Japan. Now that they figured out that "Hey, Switch is actually quite popular", they wanted in on that. I mean, they're actually giving big massive flop Monster Hunter Stories a much deserved second chance now. I might be completely wrong about this, but wasn't most of World's success due to the Western market? I remember it doing OK in Japan, but not up to the usual standard expected there, and certainly not to the extent of it's Western success. If that's correct (and do correct me if need be), then Rise's main audience being the Japanese handheld enthusiasts makes a lot of sense. The game is very Japanese-themed, even more so then usual. If it's as powerful as those rumours are (and when it comes to Nintendo consoles, I wouldn't expect it to), then sure, I don't see why not. That's a very big "if" though. Like I said before, that's also another feasible reason why Rise is Switch exclusive as of now. Can you imagine the uproar PS5 enthusiasts would make if Rise came out on it looking like the Switch version? Is it worth it? There were quite a few that complained about miracle Switch port, Dragon Quest XI S because of barely noticeable graphical differences. EDIT: BTW, saw my first 'Turf War' just now. Rathalos and Nargacuga. It's probably the first time I thought "Wow, this is proper violent" in the whole series.

Hard to tell, but a possible reason is that other consoles aren't handheld. Monster Hunter on handhelds sells absolutely stupid numbers in Japan. Or maybe they just want to focus on the audience that didn't have another console, but wanted a Monster Hunter game. It's also possible that Ninty might have funded it a bit, but seeing as they've already announced a PC version, I'm not sure about that. Maybe Capcom thought that a Monster Hunter designed for weaker hardware wouldn't be worth the inevitable backlash that would happen if it got ported to other consoles as is? PC gamers aren't really known for complaining about graphics that much, so it's less of a risk there.

At this point, why are you even digging up fossils?

I know the general rule is "Complain on the internet and you'll get what you want" when it comes to video games, but I didn't expect it to work that well! Not as cool as killing a Magnamalo with a Rathian, but it was way funnier!
-
Nope, nothing is stopping you from switching to a Gunner weapon if you want. It's great! I did that fight yesterday. Was going in expecting my 10 millionth fight with Rath. No-one told me that they completely revamped this monster! Took me by complete surprise! It felt like I was fighting a completely different monster. It was great! Had to actually use potions for once instead of just sticking with First-Aid Meds. The best thing about this Rathalos is it no longer does that cheap tactic of roaring and then immediately pelting you with an unavoidable fireball.

It's worth remembering that because Blademasters and Gunners share the same armour now, there's a defense bonus applied depending on what kind of weapon you have. Blademasters get reduced damage from physical attacks. This is applied on top of the armour defense, so that's why it feels like you take less damage than you probably would in other games. Because you are. The monsters haven't gotten weaker, the hunters have become super-human! I think Gunners get it even better. They finally get to use armour that isn't sub-par, but still keep their elemental defense because that's the bonus they get.

I generally agree with you, but Famicom Detective Club is defo not what I'd say is a big exclusive. I mean, it's neat it's finally getting an English translation, but I don't expect it to light the Switch on fire, saleswise.

Village story done high five! Just beat it now. I almost killed my Magnamalo with a Rathian. Once I dismounted that. I wailed on Magnamalo about 4 more times and it died. Would've felt so much cooler to finish it off with the actual Rathian...

I mean, you're not a proper Hunter unless that second post has happened to you.

#NoFilter Yeah, I might have to employ this, I already had it on for my helmet, but until I unlock Layered Armour, this might be the only way to look acceptable. I may have 9 different skills(!?), but I look like an ungodly mess! It's actually gross. But mixed armour sets are just so much better in this game, you'd be mad to not use them.
-
Yeah, rampage quests are, ummm... "Interesting" Feels like it's more designed for multiplayer, though. Trying to handle all that stuff by yourself is stressful. Can't help but notice a lot of you saying that the areas feel too small. You lot are mad! I think they're too big. If you need a dog to make getting anywhere bearable, the place is too damn big! @Hero-of-Time, so far, I'm in agreement with your armour issues. With every piece of armour guaranteed to give you some kind of skill, it's far too easy to cultivate an absolutely busted set. I'm about to do the 4 star village urgent quest, and the skills I have would make my Hunter in Generations Ultimate cry in happiness. It also means that mixing armour sets is massively encouraged and mixed armour sets tend to look really ugly. (Thankfully Layered Armour exists, even if I haven't unlocked it yet... I hope it's not locked exclusively being Hub quests...)

Yikes, that's pretty bad. But at least it's easily avoidable for now with that knowledge.
-
Uhhhh... You sure that isn't a Barroth quest?
-
I'm starting to think monsters can actually hear the camera shutter click. They don't acknowledge me until I take the pic and then they immediately get aggro! It's happened a few times already. I'm on 3 star village quests now, just unlocked an interesting new mechanic called "Switch Skills"

The Gyro in the Joy-Con is really good. It's legit impressive. I'll probably get this as my next game. Lockdown has started to get me to start putting on a little weight.
-
As long as it's not the default, I am OK with anything. Super serious, super weird, overly deadpan, don't care. Remember guys, the most important thing about hunting is not to use the default shout-outs, because it makes you look really boring! If I see anyone here doing so when I get online, I will call it out!
-
Pfft, lightweight! I spent the first two hours of gameplay tweaking the options and setting up my custom shout-outs. It seems that "bugger" is no longer censored, so I can still shout "Bugger it all!" every time I get hit.
-
Man, the menus in this game are so much more informative! If you hunt a monster enough. It's page on Hunters Notes will start telling you the chance of it dropping the different materials. It even tells you which materials are easier to get via capturing. No more having to browse Kiranico to figure it out!

What about Mr. Rime? Is that Pokémon OK? -
This is correct. Every game so far has had some kind of plot that concluded. The G-Rank that @Kaepora_Gaebora mentioned is more like extra post-game stuff that gets added whenever an entry got re-released. It's a lot like Pokémon in that regard. If you think of the base game Monster Hunter as say, Pokémon Gold/Silver. Then the re-release G-Rank content would be like Pokémon Crystal. Monster Hunter World changed this approach (for the better) by having G-Rank be DLC in the form of Iceborne. (A lot like how Pokémon Sword/Shield handled it with it's own expansion pass) The optimist in me would say that Rise's issue was Covid, the pessimist in me would say it was rushed out to meet the end of the financial year.
-
Oh no, don't get me wrong. This is not good. Especially for me, as online gaming is impossible as long as I'm in lockdown, so I would've liked the single player aspect to be all there.

Gonna drop some truth on you, @drahkon

After Mario Kart Tour, I wouldn't be so certain on that. -
Now that the music glitch on the PS4 version of VII has been fixed, it all depends on whether you want that portability or not. Seeing as you already have the PS4 versions, the Switch versions won't offer much outside of that. As for sales, no idea. It's pretty much a roulette.

Yep, this happened to my JoyCon as well. Thing is unusable. Thankfully, I've got a Pro Controller, so it's not too bad, but games like Super Mario Party might as well not exist.
