The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Space replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Only publications who meet their quality criteria are aggregated on there. An alternative I like is OpenCritic, might have some smaller/newer publications: http://opencritic.com/game/1548/the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild -
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Yep we're talking Ocarina of Time territory! Breath of the Wild is joint all-time 2nd highest game on Metacritic. 98 average so far from 56 critics. Ocarina was 99. -
An embargo is fine if the publisher has allowed reviewers reasonable time to complete the game. But in some cases press are left with the decision to rush a review to have something live by the embargo (e.g. being given the game the day or two before the embargo). Without an embargo the quality of the press coverage would tend to be less in-depth, early in progress or rushed reviews would appear everywhere with the pressure to get a review live before competitors. It can level the playing field and let the reviewer do a better job. It is reasonable for a publisher to want to time the coverage just before release date.

What a pain. I'd rather they attempted payment sooner to allow more time to fix this sort of thing. On ShopTo you can voluntarily pay early, which I did just to make sure it went through. HSBC are useless, they de-activated Internet Banking on one of my business accounts without asking, told me the account was closed when it wasn't, but that I'd need to re-apply for internet banking (is there any other type now?!?!?!) and take the application to my local branch (which is not in my town, and they are shutting down that branch soon) - so I closed the account instead! It is not the first time HSBC have been completely incompetent in my dealings with them. Email from ShopTo: Good that they tell you a slot to avoid waiting around all day. By the way, I ordered a game from Nintendo this week and in the Royal Mail delivery email it said it was from The Hut Group which was a little strange, I expected Nintendo to send everything themselves.

Thanks. Doesn't come up in the iOS search or on the Nintendo apps list, much be not set to promote yet, but got it via iTunes. You need the Switch to set it up so all ready for tomorrow. The general activity log will be useful to track overall time spent on each game, assuming it does that for adult accounts too.

Rime looks great, I'll definitely get it. I like that it doesn't take the usual combat approach - not having a sword will mean full focus on exploration and puzzles, and more sense of danger in some situations. Visually very impressive, some of that video above has real wow factor.

Excitement building. Same, pretty confident ShopTo will deliver my Switch tomorrow but unlikely to be early it would seem. Ordered Zelda from Amazon, not used them for a pre-order before. The race is on whether that will arrive before or after the console.

Welcome to N-Europe Hurio64!

The Pinap berry makes the Pokemon leave more candy, not tried it yet though but this will be useful with some of the 100 candy evolutions. You could choose before, but it's clearer now.

Agreed I'm still struggling to understand Nintendo's thought process with this. If they included 1 or 2 new cups most fans would probably have been happy, even if it was tracks from past games. As it stands MK8 Deluxe is quite open to criticism and I'm sure the review scores it gets will suffer somewhat. Just hope they promise some free new tracks soon...

Today I got Ledian, Skiploom and the quite brilliant Sudowoodo
-
Caught 16 new ones today - fave two are Furret and Marill Seems to be quite a bit of variety, hopefully we'll see less of Pidgy and Ratatta now.
-
Looking forward to finding out more details The thing is with Pokémon Go, it is hard to commit to playing other games as you might miss Pokémon when playing them.
-
Caught a Hoothoot while having breakfast. Quite a lot of new avatar items but you have to spend coins to get them.
-
Cool, more variety will be great. What level's everyone on now? I'm currently 28. Getting pretty hard to level up now.

I hope they clear this up soon and are providing some way of transferring the content over. I've bought quite a few VC games, most recently Pikachu Poke Park (a whopping £17.99, but it is great!) and various N64 ones. They are pretty expensive, but there's still more like F-Zero X I'd like to buy. The VC works incredibly well and Nintendo would be mad to change anything, we'd just need the exact same compatibility on the Switch. One issue is around Wiimote support, for the Wii games on VC at least... I truly hope I can just bin the Wiimotes with this generation and use the Joy-cons instead. Not sure how likely that is, but I'd be surprised if the Switch had sensor bar support (sorry if this is already known and I missed it). For some reason I have a feeling we'll need to keep the Wii U around for at least a year until they add VC support to Switch, but I hope I'm wrong.

Indeed. The closest we might get to see this is with Yooka-Laylee. With any luck if it turns out to be as good as Banjo Kazooie and sell, I'd like to see them make Yooka-Laylee Racing in the spirit of DKR. Mario Kart is always so incredibly successful surely there is a market for a top quality multi-platform rival.

With employer contributions pensions make sense. But as soon as I left full-time employment to freelance I stopped paying into mine, I'd rather have access to the money - you never know what crisis may happen where it would be useful, plus there's value in spending it now on things like paying off the mortgage quicker. I'm just taking the risk that I'll have enough assets to live comfortably when I retire. Property seems the best bet these days. In my Hertfordshire town prices have gone up 50% in 10 years. I felt like we overpaid at the time, but it seems like a good deal now, and demand is only increasing.

Always going to be a controversial topic. Everyone places importance on different aspects. I’ve been using Macs a lot the last 10 years but have quite a lot of experience with Windows too - most recently setting up Windows 10 on multiple machines, Office 365, Surface Pro 4 and Lumia 950 as part of a bit of a personal experiment last year to see how Microsoft compares to Apple these days. It was originally buying an Xbox made me tempted to find out. In the end I preferred Apple, from both a hardware and software point of view. I just I love the design, polish and apps on macOS and iOS. If you have an iPhone and/or iPad the whole ecosystem works very well. I was excited to get a Surface Pro 4 but preferred MacBook and iPad rather than compromise for the sake of a single device. Working in London, most creatives and developers tend to use MacBooks. I find them pretty good value overall, you get a decent resale amount, but it’s not really about the cost... I’d happily pay £1.5-2k for something I use all the time if it makes me happier and my life easier. It’s easier to justify when you make your living off the MacBook though, for more casual use it is a fair bit of money (just like the Surface Book). On the games front the selection on the Mac App Store and Steam is getting pretty reasonable. But the MacBook fan is too loud even with a basic game, it’s something that’s clearly not a focus for them, the fan is never audible otherwise. The Switch will deliver my gaming needs Everyone has their own preferences with this sort of thing though. If you enjoy what you’re using, that’s brilliant.

The talk of DKR is making me nostalgic. One of the best games ever, close to perfect - the island, music, weapons, air/land/sea and arena modes made it superior to Mario Kart in many ways (although I love both). Shame Donkey Kong Racing got canned as I wanted to see more of the universe. Changed my Yooka-Laylee format from Wii U to Switch. Happy to wait a bit longer to get it on there. Been playing Banjo-Kazooie a bit on Xbox Rare Replay recently, it has aged surprisingly well and has got me in the mood for Yooka-Laylee.

It seems odd to spend a lot of time including Splatoon assets for just a battle level. I'm sure we'll see a Splatoon track and they are just saving this as a surprise, maybe they'll announce it is coming a month after launch as free DLC. I don't think anyone would be cool paying for DLC without any new cups in the core game. Was hoping to see some older tracks brought back to life in Deluxe. MK8 really is the ultimate Mario Kart aside from not having all past tracks. One other feature I'd like them to add is a way to compare time trial records with friends. If I remember rightly this is not really possible currently. Mario Kart Wii had a great way of doing this that didn't make it into MK8.

Got the ShopTo email, very pleased to hear my grey one will be here on launch! I reckon the neon ones were something introduced into the plan relatively recently to aid marketing efforts. My original impression of the teaser months ago was it was very grey, expect that came up in research. Good to have choice though.
-
Grey - I think this will look best when playing in portable mode and when docked. But I was quite tempted by the Neon ones too, these would be better for when using the joy-cons detached.

Just pre-ordered at ShopTo. By the sound of it I might have been too slow to get one for launch. Went for grey in the end, though was hard to choose. Getting it with Zelda and Pro controller. £415 - I'm fine with that, it's less than a new iPad. Returned here to get hyped and a bit surprised by all the negativity. I'm trying to stay positive. One big plus is a global launch and no region locking. Lack of launch games isn't an issue for me, I'm more than content to just have 1-2 games to play until Mario Kart comes out. At launch I was pretty down on the Wii U and dismissed it, but got it some time after launch and did quite enjoy it, more than I expected. Regretted not having it from day 1, despite it failing to fulfil its potential. It is easy to criticise and expect everything to be perfect but I'm just going to try and enjoy the experience this time. I find it hard to feel much affinity for Microsoft or Sony, having bought both PS4 and Xbox One. With the promise of Fifa on Switch I'm hoping it will be possible to just go Nintendo-only for a while. There's very few third party games I'd get on the other consoles.

A bit disappointed not to get a Club Nintendo code with Rainbow Kirby today. Looks like the 6000 star Yoshi Egg backpack will never be mine so decided to get the Super Mario 3D World soundtrack.
