Nintendo Direct 23rd Jan - Wii U only - Worldwide
darkjak replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Those VC proposals would be superb. I sure would love to see Daytona USA 2001 in HD. And Shenmue with shorter loading times and improved draw distance. Regarding Excite... I loved Excitebike 64, so I'd love to see something like that. Excitetrucks had cool vehicle damage. If Nintendo would combine them in to something like Motorstorm, I'd love that. Excitevermin can go drown itself however. Personally, I'd like to see Pilotwings, Starfox and as mentioned previously: Perfect Dark to get a sequel. The latter being extremely unlikely, tho. -
I think they ran out of sound channels, because they played each sound effect once per screen split, so to speak.

Nintendo have been consistently underwhelming over a period of two years and people have started to realise that disapointing their fans is kinda Nintendos new main USP. -

Near Field Communication - Speculation:
darkjak replied to tapedeck's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I think and hope we'll see plenty of action figures with DLC. I'd love to buy a Varia Suit Samus figure that gives me let's say five different versions of Samus' suit in Smash Bros. Or an Arwing figure to fly an Arwing in Pilotwiiungs. Solid Snake to play as Snake in the next Zelda. Or a Link figure to play as Link in Metal Gear Rising : peace: Or simple collectors cards to unlock cars in Nintendo GT. You know, randomly packed bundles of let's say 5 cards for 5 euro. Then trade with your friends. -

We could see some awesome 3D adventures of epic proportions, racers, fighters and first person shooters and praise Nintendo for being as awesome as ever. Or they might spend the whole evening talking of how amazing "Wii Fit Ur fat arse" and "Wii ruin Music" are. And then half the Nintendo community is going to immediately throw either themselves or their Wii U's out the window. -

I'd love to see MGS: Ground Zeroes or maybe an exclusive MG game. But I'm not at all interested in a port of an old 3DS game. I'd prefer to have Nintendo announce some completely unknown, core, exclusive content. -
One of the best things Nintendo ever did was to own Rare. True story!

Pokemon Wii U (Wanted / Why isn't it happening?)
darkjak replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I must add that I've actually allways wanted a home console Pokémon, since I'm not too much of a portable gamer. But like I said, just look at all the negative comments you get whenever you try to imply that you want to see voice acting in Zelda. People starting to talk about it being "part of the atmosphere" (even though there in fact was a voice acted Zelda for the Satellaview, and that up until Wind Waker, it was always down to technical limitations). -
Pokemon Wii U (Wanted / Why isn't it happening?)
darkjak replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Well, thing is that Pokémon is designed for portable consoles. Short fights, easy combat system. I think that the devs would end up with an impossible dilemma: Keep what made the original games great, and have people complain that it's too simple for a home console? Or flesh it out and have fans raving that the original formula has been butchered? Because just like people are moaning and angry whenever anyone mentions voice acting in Zelda, would people like the progress that moving the game to an HD, disc based home console would mean? Cutscenes, a fully fledged 3D world with a free camera, voice acting, probably a more sophisticated combat system? Remember what happened to GTA: Chinatown Wars. The devs made a game adapted to the limitations of a system, it was praised. Then they moved it to a more powerful system with a bigger monitor, where similar, better experiences already exist, noone cared. -
Really? Are we really desperate enough to mention this? *checks Wii U line up* ...yes. Yes we are!

So they're admitting straight in the video that you'll die from really slow moving gondolas? And they show off how ridiculous it looks? I expect no less from these guys.

Predictions for Nintendo in 2013?
darkjak replied to Retro_Link's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Well, for some franchises like Conker and Banjo, I agree. Not so much regarding the likes of Perfect Dark though. But my dream is for the original devs to get reunited and then get help from brilliant tech and graphics people from Crysis or some other high-end dev. -
Predictions for Nintendo in 2013?
darkjak replied to Retro_Link's topic in General Gaming Discussion
My dream prediction: 1) Nintendo go on a shoping spree, purchasing a bunch of developers. 2) Nintendo buy a bunch of IP's. Among these are Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark and Conker. 3) A previously unknown first party dev team shows off a Gran Turismo competitor at E3. The game has 500 licensed cars and the developer announces to be planning on adding another 200 as DLC. 4) The original teams behind Goldeneye and Perfect Dark have been employed by Nintendo and are working on Perfect Dark 2. 5) First details abour Smash Bros 4 are announced. Just a quick video showing the level of detail on a couple of characters, but nothing playable. 6) Nintendo announce tha 2-in-1 lineup. A system that enables players to buy 3DS games and using software wizardry enables players to play them in HD on their TV screens. 7) Activision decide not to renew the Bond license and for an astronomic sum, Nintendo buy the permanent rights to making games based on the Goldeneye movie. Goldeneye Director's Cut is announced as the launch title for the 2-in-1 system. The game is slated for a release before PD2. 8) New 3D Mario game anounced. Level structure and camera system are more reminiscent of Mario 64 than Galaxy. 9) Metal Gear: Zero Grounds, Tomb Raider, Mass Effect 4, Star Wars 1313, GTA 5 and other high profile games confirmed for Wii U. My horror prediction: 1) Nintendo only announce one game of interest during the whole year. And it doesen't show off the Wii U's capability. 2) A bunch of games with "Wii" in the title are announced. Wii Sports, Wii Music and Wii Fit are the talk of the day during E3. 3) The Wii U Zelda is displayed late during the year. And it's Cel Shaded. "It's art". It doesen't show off the consoles performance at all, instead causing even more bad press. 4) The garbage ports make Nintendo to make stricter demands on developers. Several devs, including EA are officially confirmed to stop supporting the system. 5) By the time of the PS3 and Xbox 360 announcements, Nintendo haven't shown off a single game that looks better than an average Xbox360-game. Any hope of creating buzz around the console is now dead. Causing christmas sales to be disastrous. A few days after christmas, Nintendo announce they'll pull out of the home console market if the first party content already in development won't be able to to turn it around. -
Predictions for Nintendo in 2013?
darkjak replied to Retro_Link's topic in General Gaming Discussion
If you're talking about another NSMB or some weird Mario sports title, I'll say it's like picking between a worldwide plague and nuclear winter. However, if you're actually implying that you'd rather see another c**p Wii Sports, then all I have to say to you is: -
2013: The platform deluge of the 90s reborn?
darkjak replied to Dcubed's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Ouya has caused very much of a buzz among indie developers. There's a huge problem that it's so insanely expensive to make games for consoles nowadays. You need devkits, then you need to have the game clear a 300 page list of demands (I've been a beta tester and I've seen that list. It aint pretty and a lot of the stuff in it shouldn't be a concern for a game developer). -
Predictions for Nintendo in 2013?
darkjak replied to Retro_Link's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Oh, please god, no! We've already had enough dull cash cows in the launch window. If Nintendo are going down the quality over quantity route, then I sure hope they don't consider Wii Sports to be quality. Yeah, that would be great. As I wrote in my own thread: my wet dream is for Nintendo to buy the Perfect Dark license and give it to Retro. Like they bought the Bond license and gave it to Rare all those years ago Actually, I feel it'd be a bit abundant to have two kart racers from first/second party. I know I myself bought both games for the N64, but I'd prefer Nintendo to release a Mario Kart with an adventure mode, Diddy Kong and the extra vehicles instead. I personally hope we'll see a bunch of big name titles being Wii U confirmed, maybe with some extra content. Maybe an Arwing in GTA 5, a Varia Suit in Dead Space 3 or a Hyrule Field (OoT version, of course) map for Battlefield 4. Yeah, most definitely bring it on. Although I'm begging that the only game with "Wii" in the title that will get a sequel is Mario Kart Wii. -
I wouldn't want it exclusively for the Wii U for anything in the world. I want BF4 to have even more advanced graphics which need to be even more visibly cut down to run on the PS3 and Xbox 360, while the Wii U version is PC-perfect THEN noone will complain about how weak it is.

Well, firstly the game switched formats. First from GC to Xbox to Xbox 360. Then the whole original team walked out when Rare were bought out. Someone decided to axe the story (which according to an interview I read was very ambitious and was supposed to be told over two games). Someone else decided to throw away the excellent graphical assets that were in the works: Because they though it would be better to use some hideous Cel-shading because that was all the rage at the time: Then they realised their error and made a really stupid compromise: And finally, the game was developed by about 20 people (compared to CoD which has ten times that much manpower). So that's my take: loss of talent, under funding, format swaps and a team which redid everything every few minutes instead of making a plan and sticking with it.

I absolutely hated the boss battles. I didn't beat Wizpig until like 2005 (you're supposed to make him kick you in front of him? How was I supposed to figure that out?).

Sometimes you just feel the need to play the game in a way that it wasn't meant. Like when I would just explore the game world in Top Gear Rally. Or activate invincibility, give enemies 1000% health and annoy the hell out of them with shotguns in Goldeneye. Regarding the choice between Perfect Dark 2 and Metroid Prime 4, I probably would pick PD2. Despite not being an open world adventure, PD still gave you the chance to explore the worlds and complete your missions in different ways. Mix in even more openness, like in Hitman 2, and we'll have the best FPS campaign ever. Not to mention that the multiplayer in PD was so much more fun than what was available in MP2. In general, an FPS where you can lock on to enemies isn't very suitable for multiplayer. A Zelda multiplayer where you could use your shield and so on would however be amazing!

This is why I LOVED the beta, but hate the game now. I used to take a sniper rifle and remove the scope and use it as a semi auto assault rifle, as I learned in the army. Then they nerfed all the semi auto sniper rifles to the point where they're nigh on worthless (while playing as assault or machinegun class before they nerfed everything, I got more kills using pistols than my actual main weapon). Instead I had to relearn the whole game, and I ended up taking an M60, putting a laser sight and vertical grip on it and firing from the hip, which disapointingly turned out to actually work really well

Someone asked for threads discussing what we want to be playing for the Wii U, rather than further rants and sales numbers. Bottom line is that when I play shooters, there are only three games I keep coming back to. Goldeneye, Hitman 2 and Perfect Dark! I know it's quite unlikely that it'll happen (yet not impossible), but I'd show Nintendo infinite affection if they'd snag the IP up (MS aren't using it and loads of people claimed to the last minute before tha announcement that MS would NEVER let EA release Mass Effect 1 for the PS3 or Wii U, so it's hardly IMPOSSIBLE) and hand it over to Retro Studios. PD on XBLA is as a matter of fact the FPS that impresses me more than any other when it comes to gameplay mechanics. The lovely, open level design, the enemy soldiers having different faces and the fact that the AI is so good. I mean, when I use the psychosis gun, tha AI characters can follow me all the way through the level without catching on to something. The sheer quantity of multiplayer levels and modes, the cool weapons. I just can't stop fantasising of how PD could turn out for the Wii U, if they'd just realise the ambitions that the devs had with the original. Better animations, even smarter AI, graphics which make full use of the Wii U, stellar online multiplayer, enemies that don't fade away after they die. Throw in iron sights (but not regenerating health) and we'll have an FPS for the 21st century.
