General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
darkjak replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I never saw any of what you are talking about. I saw paper sales, but I very rarely saw anyone play it. It was a game that the dumber girls (I'm talking 20+ year old girls who have no clue there ever was something called 'the Soviet Union') played during pre-parties until the innevitable happened and their ADHD brains veered to something else. Noone queued outside game stores to try it. Chavs bought Wiis because everyone else had them. Just like chavs take SMS-loans to go to Malorca, because everyone else is doing it. Sorry, no. As a game developer, I can say that more time went in to the cinematics of let's say MGS4, than the whole of Wii Sports! You can try to argue that Wii Sports is a good game, because to some extent at least, your discussing your oppinion. But don't try to claim that Wii Sports had a 78 milion USD development budget. And yes, it redefined gaming. PS Move is dead, Sony have dropped any requirements to use the Sixaxis and Kinect is only still around because Microsoft are rich as trolls and as stubborned as trolls as well. Now even Iwata said that, while the idea of motion controls was good, the omision of games for gamers turned out to be a complete disaster! True. It appeals to people with little time or ADHD. Yes! But these people have moved on to phones! Plus that Smart TV's are on the way in. Look at the latest Bonus Round, listen to Pachter, listen to people who are in the business and know something. The Wii U may indeed be very much in lines with its competitors power wise and the tablet may very well be a good idea. But not to lure casuals, because they're GONE. It's designed to give gamers a reason to buy a new dedicated console, rather than playing on PC's. You know that Nintendo had secondary consoles in standby to get released in case the Wii or DS were to fail, right? Yes, it was a risk, yes it was bold, yes it was succesful. But Iwata himself realised it wasn't a sustainable business practice. And as I mentioned before: the industry has changed back. Sony's pack-in controller isn't called the Move or Sixaxis. It's the Dual Shock 3. Wii Sports wasn't bad in itself. On release, it was a cute novelty that came for free with your console that you could play with your girlfriend or mom. Quite brilliant! But then that came to be what defined the console. As a gamer, you were waiting for Nintendo to unleash all that epic potential the new controls promised. How many times has this forum discussed a balance board controlled 1080? Or a Star Wars game with 1:1 controls? Or just a normal friggin' FPS with pointer controls that's as good as Goldeneye? So much promise that never was delivered upon. And no, don't even try comparing the classic Goldeneye with the open levels and an actual AI with the overly-scripted Goldeneye of Duty. Instead we got awful travesties like Wii Music. I'm really sad to pop in games to my 15 year old console and be more impressed with games that in some respects were behind their times even then, than most games Nintendo have made over the last 5 years. -
Will Mario 'Universe' use Asymmetric Gameplay?
darkjak replied to Retro_Link's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Personally, I want to play my 3D Mario alone. I have nothing against such a mode, but I want to be able to complete the entire game on my own. The only solution to that which I can think of where a second player could improve gameplay is something similar to the star shooting mechanic in Mario Galaxy. -
Interresting. Pricey, old, yet interresting. Hope they implement some good use of the tablet. And preferably some extra graphical candy as well.

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion
darkjak replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
While it's true that it's a commercial beast, I still think that it shouldn't be mentioned on a Nintendo page. Just like Justin Bieber, they are pure s**t which is aimed at morons, and unfortunately, politicians do nothing to fix it, hence brain dead trash sells way more than superb masterpieces. Just look at the french auto industry: they build, small, dreary cars that consume more fuel than they should and are the most likely to break down. And still people buy them. The fact that a game sells well should have no bearing among gamers. As we say in Sweden: A crap game is a crap game is a crap game. A crap game should be ignored. That it's even mentioned in a positive sence on a forum full of gamers really says something about how desperate Nintendo fans have become over the last seven years. I mean, do you hear car lovers who own a Toyota Supra go "mmm, hope the new Prius turns out to be good, the old one sold well". No, they'll go: "The Prius was a slow and ugly piece of c**p and the current one isn't more environmentaly friendly than the one that was around 10 years ago. What a fail, hope they'll discontinue it and bring out something better. Like a new Supra. Or a new MR2. Or a new Celica. Or a new GT2000". And guess what, Toyotas sales have fallen since they discontinued ALL their cool cars in 2005. Even the Toyota boss said that they need a sports car to make their company seem less bland, and they did. He even went as far as to say that Toyota are going to continue making the GT86 and successors to it, even if they'll have to make them at a loss, just to boost their image. Citroen had the same mentality with the C6: they need a stand out product that makes their whole line up and their name seem cooler. That's what Nintendo need to do. They need to develop a killer app, with no regard as to whether it'll make a profit or not. Something that will show that their console is without a shadow of a doubt more powerful and more innovative. As much as I was blown away from the latest Nintendo Direct, there still isn't anything that shows the power of the machine. Nor how good their online functionality is, nor how the touch screen improves on core experiences. -
I'd consider HD-Remakes to fill the "cash cow" slot in their lineup. And I'll rather see Nintendo remake all their classic games in HD to earn a quick buck, than watching yet another E3 where Nintendo make a desperate attempt at making the next "Wii *insert random word here*" seem to be anything to care about. If Nintendo don't want to make sequels, then please remake Waverace 64, Pilotwings 64 and Mario Kart 64 in HD. With online modes. Because to be honest, these 15 year old games are far superior to nearly anything Nintendo have put out over the last 5 years. Even the graphics in Wii Sports impress me less than WR64 and PW64! Complete list of good Nintendo (home console) games over the last 5 years= Mario Galaxy 2, Skyward Sword.
-
Not to mention that they commonly are performed by external teams. Just look at Perfect Dark, and Banjo Kazooie on XBLA or Lylat Wars and Ocarina for 3DS.
-
Well, it's been officially confirmed (although everyone would be more surprised if it WASN'T going to come out), so let's talk about it. I for one really like that half of the tracks in the game are tracks from old games. However, I think that this time around, all the returning maps should be revamped graphically. Also, I'd really love it if Nintendo would include karts that look like the ones in MK64: Also, I hope they won't include any gimmicks like they did in Double Dash.
-
No I haven't. I checked out a review and to me it seems like essentially a WoW-style combat system where you have no control over when your character strikes with his sword or blocks, limiting controls to only special attacks. If that's the case, my hype level for this game just hit rock bottom.
-
Has there been any software updates that fix the framerate/texture load issues?
-
They can't. They've all moved over to smart phones and will, when the time comes, move over to smartTV's. Non-gamers don't feel the need to buy a dedicated games machine, espescially if it has confusing stuff like buttons... or requires more attention than their ADHD mentality aproves of. Personally, I understand why PW 3DS sold so poorly. You didn't get that much for your money. You got very few vehicles and just one absolutely tiny level. The gameplay was dumbed down and the graphical style was, although technicaly impressive, way to toony. The N64 version had four levels, all but one being WAY bigger than Wuhu Island. Plus that it's not really a franchise suitable for portable consoles. Had Nintendo done it properly, by releasing it for a home console, adding more and bigger levels, maintained that little bit of realism in the vehicle controls etc, then it would've sold way more. Plus, PW64 was just an example. Since it seems like the new Smash Bros is taking so long, Nintendo could've remade the N64 original for that money.

Looks brilliant for the most part. However when the main character is running along the shoreline at the beginning, you can see sharp edges in the shore itself. Also, whenever the main character draws out a gun, it seems like there's some insane auto aiming going on. Do not like!

Not sure if the Wind Waker remake is really something that fans have been asking for. Everyone's been raving on and on about how Wind Waker has a style that will never make it look old. And the screenshots of the HD edition makes it not only look bad... it makes it look colourless as well. If they were really listening to fans, I think they'd realise Zelda 64 or Ura Zelda as originaly intended.

I've been praising Nintendo enough for one day. I'm hugely pissed off about having to pay a second time for my Virtual Console games. For what they cost, I expect to have my VC games available for ALL formats. Not to mention that there still are N64 games that I want that haven't been released for the Wii VC. If Nintendo are going to start over for every single f**king console they bring out, the VC will NEVER get a full library for its formats. That stupid party game has no reason to exist, Game & Wario feels like another Nintendoland and Yoshi feels like New Super Mario Bros all over again. That being said, I might buy Yoshi, because I won't buy New Mario. -
This is the first Wii U game that I honestly think has no right to exist. We know this game has a fairly sizeable budget. Probably more than enough to let's say make an HD remake of Pilotwings 64 in the same vein as WW.
-
Consumers have the right to vote with their wallets and that's what I did. Why is it ignorant to dislike a game that takes half of the franchises identity and chucks it out the window in favor of a fad. Because WW was announced at a time when Cel Shading was a fad. Remember XIII, Auto Modellista, Cell Damage, Jet Set Radio etc? Zelda isn't a franchise that should be influenced by dumb fads. If that were the case, Skyward Sword would've been grey and Link would've been running down a narrow corridor and have a cover system and regenerating health. Further more, when choosing a graphical style reminiscent of modern TV-cartoons (which IMO is way more dumbed down than let's say Ducktales or Turtles that I used to watch), rather than let's say an anime style, reducing the difficulty and creating small isolated islands on which you can't get lost, they clearly indicated that they were aiming towards the new breed of dumb kids, rather than more mature gamers. I would've been fine with an animé style, like in their promo art or Valkyria Chronicles:
-
Well, I think that this is quite reminiscent of Yoshi's Story. Great announcement from Nintendo, even though I'm not sure if Nintendo haven't already released too many 2D platformers lately.
-
Seems like they indiscriminately murdered their old "say nothing" policy as well as realising what dicks they have been against their own fans.
-
I didn't buy Wind Waker first time around out of sheer protest. And by the time Twilight Princess was out and Nintendo thereby had made amends for their sins, I couldn't get a copy of WW. So, atless Nintendo make the next Zelda toony, I'll buy this. But if the next Zelda IS toony, I'll buy neither of them, yet again out of protest. But yeah, this looks quite good. Kinda feels like some Nintendo employee saw Vice City Rage and said: "let's do that":
-
Visually stunning. THIS is what Nintendo should've showed during last years E3.
-
Well, the first details of the game have been spilled. Modernising the formula, not being alone while playing (anyones guess if it's co-op, NPC squadmates or both) and the ability to visit dungeons in any order you want. This reminds me a bit of Skyrim and Mass Effect. Which in my oppinion is a good thing. I hope this will result in full voice acting (apart from Link, who should remain mute). What are your thoughts?

Nintendo Direct 23rd Jan - Wii U only - Worldwide

That was better than any E3 since the N64 days! Nintendo really out did themselves this time. Why didn't they show this stuff during last years E3? The Wii U would be flying off the shelves. -
Nintendo Direct 23rd Jan - Wii U only - Worldwide

How about the new Zelda being less linear and more modern? Plus the cryptic message that you won't play through the game on your own. Co-op or... squad mates? Both those things make me think of the first Mass Effect Plus Yoshi, plus seeing a new 3D Mario and Mariokart at E3. Essentially, this Nintendo Direct revealed more amazing exclusives than the original Wii got in its whole pathetic lifespan. And hopefully, Nintendo are going to reveal new stuff at E3. But what happened at the end? He started talking about third parties, then my feed cut out :/ -

Smartphone apps? Kill it with fire! Blah, blah, Wonderful 101. Need more time, blah, blah. And I need to pay for my Virtual Console games again? And wait for their release again? -

NO! Wuhu is a smal, dull island. I want a proper sequel with at least four vast levels and eight vehicles. Personally I want to see every single vehicle and level from PW64 and PW 3DS make a comeback. That means both jet planes, biplanes and gyrocopters. And of course the attack helicopter from the SNES version as well: And please, no miis, I want to play as the zaney characters from PW64.
