I'm planning on getting zelda, red steel and monkey ball at launch I think (all on the old student credit card!) hadn't really given it much thought until now, when i've been reading peoples lists of what they are gonna buy on launch etc...

Well, that card should work perfectly fine, but TBH, 512 MBs should be more than enough to store your saves and about 200 NES games.
demonmike04 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 It should do, i'd be suprised if it didnt.
flameboy Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 ah right cool, just thought i'd check like I said hadn't really thought about it much.
The Bard Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Just get an external hard drive mate, they cost less than SD cards.
Teppo Holmqvist Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Just get an external hard drive mate, they cost less than SD cards. Wii doesn't support hard drives anymore (Kaplan confirmed that). But this shouldn't be really problem as you can get 4 GB SD card for 50 dollars if you know where to buy from.
The Bard Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Oh. Balls. Less appealing by the second. Fortunately, it's still gonna be the best console in history .

But this shouldn't be really problem as you can get 4 GB SD card for 50 dollars if you know where to buy from. Kaplan also confirmed that it was region free. But it is unlikely that they'll work. 512mb built-in is more than enough, you wont need one for a while yet.
The Bard Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Oh so 512mb comes with the console? Thats all good then
Charlie Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Yeah, there's 512mb built into the console. No memory cards
nintendovip Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Anybody thats interested in a large sd card ( 4 gig ) should look over at Mobymemory.com £51.99. Not bad
ZeldaFreak Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Right you all being to naive when it comes to Nintendo I don't trust any corporate company but, knowing them only Nintendo SD cards will be the only ones that enable the putting of both saved games on as well as downloaded vc games.

RichieRich Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 The Wii site does say that SD cards are used to extend the internal memory. However it is very un-nintendo like to make a memory slot that only takes custom shaped cards, I guess that due to the number of larger and cheaper replica memory cards for the cube, it probably didn't make much sense for nintendo to create a custom slot as noone bought the official mem cards. Also, as the Wii has 2 gamecube mem card slots, I wonder if it is possible to transfer cube saves onto the extended SD memory, so you dont have those cards poking out of the top, and also expand the number of saves, as I have always had to cram them onto the tiny card provided with the cube.
KKOB Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 your not reading what I am saying Takeo: A brand such as Kodak SD cards: Allow you to put videos and pictures on the Wii Nintendo's own SD cards: Allow you to download VC games Allow you to store saves i did, nintendo will allow the save data to be put on any memory card-that much is obvious when it comes to VC stuff Nintendo will have their own solution to the piracy probably linked to your mii character or just to your credit card that only allows it to be played on your registered console.
ZeldaFreak Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 however if you use prepaid cards and someone has the exact same Mii character it would make sense that Nintendo would have an SD card with a program on to stop copying it onto pc but also force you to use theirs

pedrocasilva Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 however if you use prepaid cards and someone has the exact same Mii character it would make sense that Nintendo would have an SD card with a program on to stop copying it onto pc but also force you to use theirsProgram to prevent from copying? Nintendo's best bet against VC piracy is a proprietary fylesystem, for memory cards, making them unreadable in Windows. They won't make diferent memory cards than the standard though, that would just add costs, no extra embedded chips or anything They could also (and should) encript each VC ROM/game through the fritz chip, making my VC card not being decoded by my friends Wii, because it would lack the key to do so. Either they do both (fylesystem and encode) or just one of those is up to them, I'm not filled with details just yet. I'd bet on Nintendo limiting card availability at 2 GB or so, though, because if they sell them they have interest in selling more than one. I'd rather have the option to format a regular SD card for use with Wii. It could be a matter of time before we start making blind copy's of that fylesystem into our SD cards though, thus enabling them to be used for those purposes.
ZeldaFreak Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Why cause I like to download my games for free
pedrocasilva Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Why cause I like to download my games for freeNot sure if I understood, but if Nintendo played their cards right on Wii... piracy for VC games is unlikely (they didn't need to release "special SD cards" to achieve that though). Also there's no way possible that you will be able to play the pirated ROM's you have on the PC... the ROMS for Wii are probably gonna be written with native encription.
Cookyman Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Why cause I like to download my games for free I swear Zeldafreak you talk some tosh - you could cause an argument in an empty room
flameboy Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 I swear Zeldafreak you talk some tosh - you could cause an argument in an empty room lol. i have to agree, you just plucking you arguement out of thin air. What your saying doesn't have any reasonable foundation at all!!!!

If you're playing a GameCube game you're going to have to plug in your GC controller anyway so it wouldn't really matter if it pokes out the top or not. I really hope you can transfer them and/or save straight onto an SD card though because, as you said, the GC memory cards are tiny. I doubt you can though as most games let you choose slot A or B and obviously there isn't an option for the SD card or internal memory.

As a friend of mine has stated he won't buy the vc games he will simply download them off the internet and plug a controller into his PC and play NES, SNES and N64 games.
