Konfucius Posted August 22, 2007 Author Posted August 22, 2007 Sorry for the delay, I have exams session at the moment so I don't visit the forum regularly. TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 18 August 2007 There’s no disguising the appeal of ‘Transformers: The Game’ as Activision’s multi-format film tie-in remains at No1 in the All Formats Top 40 for a third consecutive week despite a 15% drop in sales. No change at No1 then, but there is a change this week to the ELSPA/Chart-Track charts with the integration of an Individual Formats Top 40 for both software units and value. These new charts represent the highest selling games across one individual format and unsurprisingly sees Nintendo the first company to top both charts with ‘Wii Play’ for units and ‘Pokemon Diamond’ for value. There are 16 DS, 10 Wii, 7 PS2, 2 PSP, 2 PS3, 2 Xbox 360 and 1 PC game in the new Individual Formats (Units) Top 40. Nintendo’s formats also continue to enjoy success in the All Formats Chart as ‘Wii Play’ moves up one place to No2, ‘Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training’ is up 5 places to No3 - its highest All Formats chart position ever, equalling its third week of launch when it also reached No3. ‘Pokemon Diamond’ and ‘Pokemon Pearl’ are the only Nintendo games in the All Formats Top 10 to lose sales (both down 20%) with ‘More Brain Training’ down 1 place to No5, but up 6% in sales and ‘New Super Mario Bros.’ holding on to No10 thanks to a 14% jump in sales. Ubisoft break into the Top 10 with ‘Surf’s Up’ riding a wave following the success of the film, up from No11 to No8. There are only 3 games in the All Formats Top 10 that are not exclusive to Nintendo formats and all 3 are film tie-ins (Transformers, Harry Potter and Surf’s Up). THQ have this week’s highest climber with DS game ‘Purr Pals’ entering the All Formats Top 40 for the first time at No18 in its second week. All No1s stay the same except ‘Surf’s Up’ rising to the top of the PS2 budget chart and ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ up from No4 to No1 in the DS Chart. Konfucius Posted August 28, 2007 Author Posted August 28, 2007 TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 25 August 2007 It’s no shock that Take 2 claim this week’s All Formats No1 as the critically acclaimed ‘Bioshock’ becomes the 2nd fastest selling Xbox 360 game (behind Gears of War). Released on both Xbox 360 and PC, ‘Bioshock’ in particular gives Microsoft’s next-gen console a noticeable boost with 88% of sales on Xbox 360 and 12% on PC, and accounts for 58% of all Xbox 360 Full Price units sales this week. Activision’s ‘Transformers: The Game’ stalls, down one place to No2, while Nintendo’s Brain Training titles for DS continue to perform well with the original holding on to No3 and the sequel up one place to No4. Nintendo’s ‘Wii Play’ and ‘Pokemon Diamond’ aren’t so fortunate, dropping from No2 to No5 and No4 to No6 respectively, but Nintendo still have 4 games in the Top 6 (the same as last week). The film tie-ins from EA and Ubisoft continue to cling to the Top 10 with ‘Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix’ down one place to No7 and ‘Surf’s Up’ riding the No8 wave for another week. ‘Bioshock’ is not the only Top 10 new release this week as Microsoft’s ‘Blue Dragon’ also manages to help fire-up sales of the newly launched Xbox 360 Elite console, debuting at No9. Ubisoft sneak into the Top 10 with ‘Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2’ re-entering at No10 thanks to the release of the PS3 (No1 PS3 Chart) and PSP versions. The only other new entry this week is ‘Moto GP 07’ from THQ at No33. Konfucius Posted September 6, 2007 Author Posted September 6, 2007 TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 1 September 2007 2K Games/Take 2’s ‘Bioshock’ doesn’t lose its grip on the top spot in the All Formats Chart despite a 39% drop in sales and a strong opening drive from EA’s ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08’ which debuts behind it at No2. EA’s multi-format flagship golf game records 42% of sales on Xbox 360 and 32% on Nintendo Wii, teeing off at No2 behind ‘Bioshock’ in the Xbox 360 Chart and No3 in the Wii Chart. A resurgent ‘Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree’ climbs from No23 to No6 thanks to renewed stock, while Ubisoft’s ‘Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2’ sneaks back up the chart from No10 to No7. ‘Stuntman: Ignition’ from THQ starts its engines at No9 in the All Formats Chart, while the PC expansion packs from Sega (‘Medieval II: Total War – Kingdoms’) and NCSoft (‘Guild Wars: Eye of the North’) debut at Nos 16 and 18 respectively. Unlike ‘Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree’ a lack of stock pushes ‘Wii Play’ out of the Top 10 from No5 to No26. EA’s new IP ‘Boogie’ gets on the dance floor at No28 (No5 in the Wii Chart), just behind another EA game ‘Madden NFL 08’ which enters the All Formats Top 40 at No27 for the first time in its second week, thanks to the launch of the Xbox 360 and Wii versions. The only other new release to make the All Formats Top 40 is THQ’s ‘Worms: Open Warfare 2’ on DS and PSP, in at No38. Konfucius Posted September 11, 2007 Author Posted September 11, 2007 TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 8 September 2007 EA takes control of No1 in the All Formats Chart after losing out to 2K Games/Take 2’s ‘Bioshock’ last week, but it’s newcomer ‘Medal of Honor: Airborne’ which claims top spot, outselling EA’s ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08’ at No2 by only 78 units. ‘Bioshock’ sales fall by 59%, down from No1 to No3, while 2 more Top 10 new entries – ‘Two Worlds’ from South Peak Games at No4 and EA’s latest Sims expansion ‘The Sims 2: Bon Voyage’ at No8 - mean Nintendo’s presence in the All Formats Top 10 is reduced from 4 to 3 (the 2 Brain Training DS titles and ‘Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree’). Both the original Brain Training and the sequel slip 2 places, down to No’s 5 and 7 respectively while ‘Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree’ drops 4 places from No6 to No10 and ‘Pokemon Diamond’ falls out of the Top 10, down from No10 to No19. THQ’s ‘Stuntman: Ignition’ and ‘Worms: Open Warfare 2’ have good second weeks with the latest Stuntman game up from No9 to No6 and an 80% jump in sales pushes Worms up from No38 to No11. Konfucius Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 15 September 2007 EA’s ‘Medal of Honor: Airborne’ is still flying high at the top of the All Formats Chart, fighting off competition from THQ’s ‘John Woo Presents Stranglehold’ for Xbox 360 which debuts at No2 (but ahead of MoH, at No1 in the Xbox 360 Chart). All of the three new entries that break into the All Formats Top 10 this week are exclusives released on differing formats, bringing the total of All Formats Top 10 format-exclusives up to 7. Nintendo has the next highest new entry with ‘Super Paper Mario’ on Wii at No4, while Sony’s ‘Heavenly Sword’ on PS3 begins life at No7. All three Top 10 new releases top their respective Charts. ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08’ drops one place to No3, but EA’s ‘The Sims 2: Bon Voyage’ manages to hold on to No8 for a second week. Codemasters’ ‘Colin McRae: Dirt’ re-enters the All Formats Top 40 at No11 thanks to the release of the PS3 version, while ‘Rugby 08’ enjoys a surge in sales due to the World Cup, up from No40 to No22. ‘Forza Motorsport 2’ is back in the All Formats Top 40 at No37 as a result of the launch of a new promotional Microsoft Entertainment bundle. Konfucius Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 22 September 2007 The launch of the PS3 version helps EA’s ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08’ move up 2 places to claim No1 in the All Formats Chart, with last week’s No1, ‘Medal of Honor: Airborne’, also published by EA, down 5 places to No6 with a drop of 47% in sales. The last time a Tiger Woods game reached No1 in the All Formats Chart was ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004’ 4 years ago. EA gains the first and second spots in the All Formats Chart thanks to the debut of Nintendo DS and Wii exclusive ‘MySims’ at No2 with 58% of sales on Wii and 42% on DS. Nintendo’s own first-party Wii game ‘Super Paper Mario’ climbs one place to No3, while Midway’s ‘Stranglehold’ suffers in the run up to the launch of Halo 3 on Wednesday, dropping 2 places to No4. Dante Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Doing the UK Sales this week. From Chart Track: It’s no surprise that Microsoft and Bungie are No1 in the All Formats Chart with ‘Halo 3’. ‘Halo 3’ storms in as the second fastest selling game ever in the UK, behind ‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’. The UK’s love-affair with Rockstar’s PS2 San Andreas almost 3 years ago is still the benchmark for week 1 and lifetime sales. However, the PS2 installed base back then was around 6.6m (after 4 years) – Microsoft have to make do with ‘just’ 1.4m in less than 2 years. Released on Wednesday 26th September for the first time on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 format, ‘Halo 3’ was bought by 1 in 3 Xbox 360 owners in its first week, whereas 1 in 6 Xbox owners bought ‘Halo 2’ and back in PS2’s heyday (week 44 2004) 1 in 10 PS2 owners bought ‘San Andreas’. Although ‘Halo 3’ had a headstart on San Andreas with 4 days of sales in its first week rather than San Andreas’ 2 days, the launch is still very impressive, helping to more than double the sales of Xbox 360 hardware to the highest level shown this year and even beats Nintendo’s Wii for the first time since week 13 this year. 68% of Xbox 360 software sales this week were of ‘Halo 3’ (compared to 56% of PS2 software for San Andreas’ launch), pushing Microsoft’s format to its highest sales week ever (comfortably beating week 51 2006 which was the previous highest). ‘Halo 3’ is not the only massive game to be launched this week: EA’s ‘FIFA 08’ kicks off at No2 in the All Formats Chart with the biggest opening week of any FIFA game. The PS2 version accounts for 44% of sales, the Xbox 360 version 26%, 20% on PS3 and 10% across the remaining formats (PSP, Wii, PC and DS). The Xbox 360 version of ‘FIFA 08’ is the third fastest selling Xbox 360 game in the UK, behind ‘Halo 3’ and ‘Gears of War’. 83% of all Xbox 360 software sales were for ‘Halo 3’ and ‘FIFA 08’. There are a total of 7 new games in this week’s All Formats Top 40 released by 5 different publishers – Microsoft, EA, THQ, Sega and Activision. The next highest new entry is THQ’s ‘Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights’ at No5, then ‘Sega Rally’ at No7 and EA’s ‘Skate’ on Xbox 360 at No11. Activision’s PC-only ‘Quake Wars: Enemy Territory’ can only manage No16, while THQ’s ‘Ratatouille’ sneaks in at No39 in anticipation of the film’s UK release on October 12th. Summary: Halo 3 = second fastest selling game of all time, after San Andreas 360 hardware sales more than double, 360 > Wii 1.4 million 360s sold in UK 360 has highest software sales week ever FIFA 08 is 3rd fastest selling 360 game Biggest opening week of any FIFA game UK: TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE - INDIVIDUAL FORMATS (UNITS), WEEK ENDING 29 September 2007 01 (__) [360] Halo 3 (Microsoft) 02 (__) [PS2] Fifa 08 (Electronic Arts) 03 (__) [360] Fifa 08 (Electronic Arts) 04 (__) [PS3] Fifa 08 (Electronic Arts) 05 (__) [PSP] Fifa 08 (Electronic Arts) 06 (04) [NDS] More Brain Training From Dr Kawashima (Nintendo) 07 (__) [WII] Fifa 08 (Electronic Arts) 08 (08) [NDS] Mysims (Electronic Arts) 09 (05) [WII] Mysims (Electronic Arts) 10 (01) [WII] Super Paper Mario (Nintendo) 11 (03) [WII] Wii Play (Nintendo) 12 (__) [360] Skate (Electronic Arts) 13 (27) [360] Forza Motorsport 2 (Microsoft) 14 (__) [360] Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights (Thq) 15 (06) [NDS] Dr Kawashima's Brain Training (Nintendo) 16 (__) [PC] Quake Wars: Enemy Territory (Activision) 17 (12) [WII] Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree (Nintendo) 18 (16) [PS2] Transformers: The Game (Activision) 19 (__) [PS2] Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights (Thq) 20 (02) [360] John Woo Presents Stranglehold (Midway) 21 (10) [WII] Tiger Woods Pga Tour 08 (Electronic Arts) 22 (19) [PS2] Singstar Rock Ballads (Sony Computer Ent.) 23 (17) [NDS] New Super Mario Bros. Konfucius Posted October 10, 2007 Author Posted October 10, 2007 TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 6 October 2007 It’s FIFA’s turn to shine as Microsoft’s ‘Halo 3’ loses some of its opening week glitz with a 79% drop in sales. EA’s ‘FIFA 08’ claims No1 in the All Formats Chart for week 40, completing a hat-trick of Week 40 No1s as it also topped the All Formats Chart for week 40 in both 2005 and 2006. FIFA manages to hold on to the No1 spot in the PS2, PS3, PSP and Wii Charts with the PS2 version also overtaking ‘Halo 3’ as this week’s Individual Formats (Units) No1. THQ is the star Chart performer this week with ‘Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights’ the only Top 10 game to increase in sales, up 16% on last week, climbing 2 places to No3, while film tie-in ‘Ratatouille’ breaks into the Top 10 in its second week of release at No8. EA still have the biggest All Formats Top 10 presence with ‘MySims’ and ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08’ both only losing one place, down to Nos 4 and 5 respectively. The fourth installment of Ubisoft’s CSI games ‘CSI: Hard Evidence’ debuts at No24, boosted by the first CSI game to feature on Xbox 360, while 2 THQ games released last week make their first foray into the All Formats Top 40 – ‘Conan’ at No32 and ‘Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts’ at No34. Konfucius Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 I'm late again sorry but I'm a lot more occupied by RL lately, so I guess I'll be late next week once more... So feel free to update the thread as soon as the new charts get released, I won't feel ignored or anything, but it's not like I won't do them anymore. I think I'll rarely be on time though. TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 13 October 2007 ‘FIFA 08’ fends off Microsoft for a second week at the top of the All Formats Chart, but it’s the turn of ‘Project Gotham Racing 4’ to mount the challenge rather than ‘Halo 3’ as Microsoft’s racer debuts at No2, pushing ‘Halo 3’ down to No3. ‘PGR 3’ may have been an Xbox 360 launch title, but the 4th in the series has a better launch week and in the same week as the launch of Sony’s new 40GB PS3 console and hardware price drop. The multi-format ‘Ratatouille’ from THQ jumps 4 places from No8 to No4 with the film now on general release, while stablemate ‘Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights’ moves in the opposite direction, down from No3 to No7. EA’s ‘MySims’ and ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08’ only fall one place to Nos 5 and 6 respectively, while bundling on the cheaper 60GB PS3 allows ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ to re-enter the Top 10 at No8 and pass ‘FIFA 08’ at the top of the PS3 chart. Renewed Wii stock helps push ‘Wii Play’ up 2 places from No11 to No9 and ‘Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree’ up from No15 to No11. The release of the PS3 version of ‘Skate’ gives EA’s skateboarding game a boost, up from No14 to No12. The PS3 bundling is a godsend for ‘Heavenly Sword’ which re-enters the Top 40 at No14, while ‘Motorstorm’ also benefits, up from No23 to No18. Konfucius Posted October 24, 2007 Author Posted October 24, 2007 And indeed I'm late again... TOP 40 ENTERTAINMENT SOFTWARE (ALL PRICES), WEEK ENDING 20 October 2007 England may be on the verge of not qualifying for the European Cup, but football is on a winning streak at the top of the All Formats Chart as Sega’s ‘Football Manager 2008’ replaces ‘FIFA 08’ at No1 with FIFA dropping one place to No2. It is Sega’s first All Formats No1 since the previous Football Manager this week last year, and accounts for 38% of all PC games sold this week. Football Manager 2008 matches the sales of the last two versions, selling only 2,000 units less than FM 2006 and 1,000 less than FM 2007. The Sports Interactive developed Football/Championship Manager games account for 7 out of the Top 10 biggest launch weeks for PC games with ‘World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade’, ‘The Sims 2’ and ‘Half-Life 2’ the only other titles. EA make-up for FIFA’s decline with the release of ‘The Orange Box’ on PC and Xbox 360 – the latest installment in the Half-Life franchise, new at No3 with the Xbox 360 version accounting for 77% of the sales and outselling both ‘Halo 3’ and ‘PGR4’, while the PC version equals the sales of last year’s ‘Half-Life 2: Episode One’. There are three new releases that make it into the All Formats Top 10 with Nintendo providing the third – ‘The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass’ at No4. Xbox 360 exclusives ‘Halo 3’ and ‘Project Gotham Racing 4’ slip 2 places and 4 places respectively, down to No’s 5 and 6. A better second week as well as the launch of the DS version gives Vivendi’s ‘Crash of the Titans’ a nudge in the right direction, up from No19 to No10. PES 6 arrived on 3 formats (PS2, 360, PC) with PS2 taking a commanding 73% of week 1. This time round and the world is changing, with PES 2008 debuting on 4 formats (PS2, 360, PS3, PC) and although PS2 is still the lead format, PS2 share is down to 42% of week 1 with Xbox 360 doing very well on 30%. Slaggis Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Half of the games in the top 10 are exclusive to a nintendo platform! Awesome. Nice to see NFS not at the top too.
Guest Maase Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Wow, Nintendo is really making sucess Only nerds, less-knowers-about-anything-not-related-to-PS/XBOX-in-Videogames, idiots and guys-who-just-want-good-old-franchise buy the PS3/XBOX360, Nintendo Wii/Nintendo DS is taking everybody else to the Nintendo Side
welsh_gamer Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Mario and Sonic is climbing well. Could it possibly make Christmas No.1?
dazzybee Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I fucking KNEW need for speed wouldnt do it this year!!! Gonna be interesting to see what does though - any money on Links Crossbow Training? And what the f*ck is up wih the brain training games!!?!?!
Will Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I have to say I still think Need for Speed will take Christmas number 1. No money to be gained from betting on that though so I went with Mario and Sonic and a outside punt on Golden Compass. I considered Links Crossbow Training but being £20 I don't think it will be elligable for bets due to the budget price. Certainly got a chance of overall No. 1 though I reckon.
Dante Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Monthly Chart Analysis – November The burning embers of Guy Fawkes’ festivities were stubbed out early on, but publishers saw plenty of fireworks throughout November – with Activision and Nintendo pinching back significant market share from Electronic Arts Tim Ingham analyses the stats... Its market share by units has grown by 3.7 per cent since ChartTrack’s monthly analysis for September, with a full four point jump since last month. The publisher has also seen a 3.7 per cent rise on value in the last month. Despite FIFA’s ongoing success, EA Sports endured a dip of 10.6 per cent on value share in the last month, and a 3.3 per cent drop in terms of units. TOTAL SOFTWARE BY COMPANY (units) 16.8% - EA 14% - Nintendo 9.3% - THQ 8.9% - Activision 8.9% - Ubisoft 4.7% - Sony 4.4% - Microsoft 4.0% - Konami 3.8% - Sega 3.4% - Disney TOTAL SOFTWARE BY COMPANY (value) 18.5% - EA 13.3% - Nintendo 11.8% - Activision 9.6% - Ubisoft 8.4% - THQ 6.9% - Microsoft 4.6% - Konami 4.0% - Sony 3.3% - Sega 2.5% - Disney EA is still very much the dominant force when it comes to software share, but the mega-publisher has seen its lead considerably shortened over the past month. The firm lost 3.8 per cent of market share by units and a significant 5.7 per cent share by value in November. Activision was a major beneficiary, with a unit share hike of 5.9 per cent and a value share rise of 9.1 per cent in the month. Meanwhile, Nintendo saw a rise in unit share of four per cent and a jump in value share of 3.7 per cent. FULL PRICE FORMAT SHARE (units) 23.1% - Xbox 360 16.2% - DS 15.3% - PS2 14.2% - Wii 13.9% - PS3 12.8% - PC 4.3% - PSP 0.1% - Mac FULL PRICE FORMAT SHARE (value) 26.2% - Xbox 360 15.5% - PS3 14.7% - Wii 13.7% - PC 12.9% - DS 12.7% - PS2 3.6% - PSP 0.2% - Mac The 360 format grew its share of full price software units by 1.9 per cent over the last month, and also upped its game when it came to revenue taken – with its share jumping 0.6 per cent on value. The most impressive performance came from Nintendo formats, with the DS growing its share on units by 2.8 per cent and by a cool three per cent on value. Wii grew its share on full price software units by three per cent, and by 3.7 per cent on value. The biggest casualty was the PC, which lost a whopping 6.6 per cent share on units in November. BUDGET FORMAT SHARE (units) 37.7% - DS 19.7% - PC 19.3% - PS2 8.7% - PSP 8.6% - Wii 4.6% - Xbox 360 1.0% - GBA 0.4% - Xbox BUDGET FORMAT SHARE (value) 44.5% - DS 19.1% - PS2 10.6% - PC 10.3% - Wii 8.3% - PSP 6.3% - Xbox 360 0.7% - GBA 0.1% - Xbox Another category in which the PC format had a shocker in November: the platform lost 10.2 per cent share on units sold of budget software in the last month, whilst its total value share in the market dropped by 7.1 per cent. The main beneficiary was the DS, which in turn grew its budget share by 13.5 per cent in units and a mighty 13 per cent by value. Other minor triumphs came from the Wii – which enjoyed a jump in units share of 0.7 per cent – and Xbox 360, which saw its value share rise by 0.2 per cent.
