Rise of the Ronin is a combat focused open-world action RPG that takes place in Japan at a time of great change. It is the very end of a 300-year long Edo Period, commonly known as “Bakumatsu”. Set in the late 19th century, Japan is facing the darkest of times as it struggles with its oppressive rulers and deadly diseases while western influence permeates as civil war continues to rage between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Anti-Shogunate factions.

Here in this time of mayhem, you embody a Ronin character, a warrior bound to no master and free to make choices of its own. Rise of the Ronin is a new Team Ninja experience that will immerse you in an historically inspired world while bringing together its renowned combat action with Katanas and the likes, with new firearm weaponry that depicts the unique personality of its time period.

Announcement of the show for me. It's a shame it's still so far away, but there's enough to play in the meantime :p

Demo has dropped which carries progress into the full game:

Quote

A free playable demo of Rise of the Ronin is now available for download on the PlayStation Store. You can enjoy the battle with Gonzo, which was mentioned at the beginning of the article, and your save data can be carried over to the full game. For those of you who have not yet played Rise of the Ronin, we encourage you to explore its vast and beautiful world.

Still surprises me that more companies don't drop a demo once sales for a game start to die down, especially once a game reaches that point of being 4-6 months removed from launch and can still be a bit awkwardly priced ::shrug:

Not a bad game but I'm still a little confused why it was made.

It's essentially Ghost of Tsushima, Assassin's Creed, Nioh and Sekiro all rolled into one. The problem with this is that it takes from each of these games but doesn't improve or excel in anything that has inspired it. It's still a decent game but it's a very by the numbers experience. It's very easy to see why it didn't set the charts on fire and why there has been very little chatter since it was released.

The Sekiro comparison is mainly due to the combat. You can hack and slash your way to victory but it's much quicker if you learn the timings of attacks and then counter to bring down the enemy stamina bar. These leaves them wide open for you to inflict a stupid amount of damage, especially if you are using a handgun/pistol as a secondary weapon.
