Julius Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 (edited) Couldn't seem to find a thread for this, but anyways, it's been delayed from its vague 2022 release window to 2023 For a bit of a refresher, the game was originally revealed during Summer Game Fest last summer with this trailer, when it was confirmed to be coming to PC via Steam: Before this gameplay trailer last August (actually, a year ago to the day!) announced that the game would also be coming to the Nintendo Switch during an Indie World Showcase: Well, let the wait begin... Tee Lopes is officially a prestigious VG composer by this point, huh? Love to see him being a selling point for any game he composes for.

darksnowman Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Checked Tee Lopes on Wikipedia and I don't have any of the games he's worked on so this will be the first, provided it turns out well. Which I really hope it does.

darksnowman Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Quote Metal Slug Tactics is both a respectful homage to an all-time classic and an imaginative new way to celebrate the renowned series, channeling METAL SLUG’s timeless aesthetic through gorgeous pixel art and fluid animation. The game’s highly replayable battlefields pair shuffled layouts from hand-crafted sectors of terrain with subtle roguelite elements, pushing fighters to adapt and overcome unpredictable clashes as they master dynamic, strategic combat. Sounds something like the Dampé's level maker stuff in the Switch version of Link's Awakening.

But that was neither highly replayable or dynamic. This looks really smooth, but this feels like a step away from the spirit of Metal Slug, which is charging the shit into people guns blazing, not Advance Wars stylie.

Giving myself a pat on the back for not highlighting dynamic. Shuffling the handcrafted sectors (rooms in levels) was the correlation that came to me. I suppose when you play a roguelike long enough you start to recognise what segments are being stitched together to make up each floor. Sounds like they're being upfront about it so, fingers crossed, they deliver something with good replayability that still feels properly made and isn't as jarring as the Dampé's level maker association I made. Finding out if Metal Slug can make the jump to Advance Wars has got everyone curious. Could be just something they came up with to get people talking about it.
