I'm sure most of us have thought at some point "I'd like to make a game that..." so here's your chance to share them.

What kind of game have you always wanted to make?

And more importantly, what's stopping you? ;)

And more importantly, what's stopping you? ;)

Absolutely nothing

I made a couple of small games when I was at University, one of which was a top-down shooter as it was relatively simple to program. I did, however, like the thought of expanding the whole idea and making it multiplayer. This also brought up desires for Starfox, as I'll explain :heh:

Basically, there were different coloured enemies flying down the screen in my game (red, green, blue and yellow) that could only be defeated with bullets of those colours. Firing these bullets was mapped to the four face buttons of the XBOX 360 controller where A was green, B was red, X was blue and Y was yellow.. for obvious reasons :heh:

Anyway, I always thought it would have been cool to have a similar sort of game with 4 players where you have to work together and cooperate in order to defeat the enemies and bosses as each player would only be able to fire one particular colour.

The Starfox connection comes from a desire to see a Starfox game where you can take control of each of the 4 pilots, either in single player or multiplayer

Each character would have different abilities and missions to carry out so you'd have different objectives to do in single player throughout each stage based on whether you selected Fox, Falco, Slippy or Peppy :hehe:

Again, I'd love to see something like this created with a multiplayer experience too where you could fly through the game with your friends, each flying as a different character, and having to take care of specific tasks individually but also work together to take down certain enemies or unlock routes and solve puzzles.

As much as I absolutely love Starfox Zero, it does hurt a little to think about the potential that will probably never be realised in the series :hmm:

I've been trying to motivate myself to learn programming because I've always harboured hopes of being a game designer. I've got quite a few ideas but I'd love to make a really in depth tennis game, one that gives you full control over every movement of the player - similar to how 'Super Smash Bros. Melee' did. I would also love to make a proper wrestling game, a true RPG where you can fully customise your story.

I've got lots of little 2D ideas that I one day hope to follow through on, but those are my ambitious 3D game ideas.

Oh and I'd also love to make a Game Boy style version of 'Animal Crossing', it would have been fantastic.

What kind of game have you always wanted to make?]

Plenty.

To slightly elaborate, I've had a few ideas for 2 Metroidvania-style games, though I probably want to start with a platformer.

And more importantly, what's stopping you? ;)

I'm lazy.

Also in the case of my idea for a Zelda sequel, there are license problems.

For those who want to know, I had an idea for a more futuristic Zelda. So it's funny to see Zelda to get more futuristic anyway (unthinkable years ago). I love how it started with Skyward sword.

Anyway, I just had a few ideas, and not thought out a lot, but I wanted the story to future time travel again, and with Link ending up far into the future of Hyrule. In a setting that would be post-post-apocalyptic.. Civilisation as Link knew it would be gone, but a new one would have been built, and it would be more of a steampunk setting. Ruins would be there but as mysterious and forgotten places in the underground foundation of new Hyrule, with a much larger Hyrule city built on top of it in Victorian style. Although probably not a big as imagined as Breath of the wild, I did think of (Steam) trains being used to get to more distant areas / cities. The structure would be largely traditional, futuring an overworld and several dungeons, though now I'd have to update that idea of course. Weapons would fit the setting, but would overall act as you're used to, with the bow and arrow replaced with old-fashioned rifles for example.

New enemy, not a version of Ganon, though he would feature in the story. Ganon would actually more of an ally.. at first glance. Like I said, I haven't thought out anything, I just thought of various specific details, some of which I have forgotten. Link travels to the future because he finds a curious time travel device, and is sent to the future to fulfill a prophecy: to restore magic in the world of hyrule. His new enemy is some kind of general who is trying to eradicate all of the "magic" (which as we now know is simply the old technology of the Hyrulean gods) and all remnants associated with it. Ganon(dorf) actually requires this magic, so his power is greatly diminished in this new age, which is why he wants to help Link to succeed. He does this by duelling with Link to teach new moves (a bit like the skeleton Link from Twilight Princess, but much tougher, acting more like mini-bosses where you have to work for your rewards). In order to restore magic, Link gets the help of another accidental time traveler: a new fairy companion.

This new fairy companion would introduce a new mechanic to Zelda, as it would be playable. This would be used for puzzle solving (imagine going through keyholes, or finding weakspots to small for Link to use), and even small mini-dungeons.

A final detail (I have a few more, but I'll save those): a story twist is that when Link defeats the general (haven't thought of a name), restores magic, and repairs the time travel device to go home, he is actually sent into an even further future, where Ganon is restored in power. So one last bonus boss awaits you when you think it's all over.

Like I said, I'd have to update some of these ideas, with new developments from mostly Breath of the wild. I like the return of the equippable weapons from Wind Waker for example, where I originally had the idea of the 3 staple swords, the master sword and 2 others. One for big and strong enemies and one for fast and small enemies.

It would be cool to think of more ideas and update old ones, although I don't know for what purpose. Even if I did get off my ass and managed to make a complete "fan-game", only a few would enjoy it before I'd receive cease and desist, haha.

I could repurpose the ideas for an original game, but story-wise a lot of things simply would have less impact, since they were based on Zelda stuff.
