Fierce_LiNk Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 Out for PC and OS X now, Xbox360 in November and first quarter 2015 for PS4. It's a construction and management simulation which focuses around building cities. Some key features about the game. - Eras - You are able to advance through 4 different eras - from the 19th century to the 21st. Various challenges and events occur as time progress. - Dynasty - 'El Presidente' now has a family present on the island, who can be appointed to key leadership positions including the man with the title of 'El Presidente' after his death, while earning skills and experience. - Research and renovation - New buildings and technologies can be discovered as time advances by using research. Old buildings may be renovated into more modern variants. - New trade system - You can create a global trade fleet and use it to import/export goods to neighboring islands and nations. - Fog of war and native tribes - Explore the island to discover new mineral deposits or hostile native tribes. - New buildings - Over 100 unique buildings from each of the 4 individual eras. - Multiplayer - Up to 4 players can work together - or against each other - on any given island map. They can share resources or citizens, or declare war on each other. Personally, I think it looks and sounds great. I've been checking up on youtube videos of it today and it looks like it's a nice game. It's consistently getting 7/8 out of 10 marks, hopefully will be the first of many games like this on PS4.
Eenuh Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I couldn't wait for this to come out on the PS4 (been craving a game like this for ages!) so just ended up buying it on Steam for my MacBook. Managed to get it on the HumbleStore for about £23, so not bad! I think I ended up playing it for 7 hours yesterday, oops! Enjoying it though, if you like Sim-type games where you get to control and build an entire city (or island in this case), look into this game. It has a nice sense of humour as well. =)
Shorty Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I've never played a Tropico game. There was something weirdly distant about it. When I saw Tropico 3 or 4 banners, I forget which, that was literally all I'd ever seen of the series. Never heard of the previous titles, never seen a review or gameplay, just adverts. Because of that, it felt like a Facebook advert or something, so I never gave it a second thought. Weirdly those screenshots remind me of Constructor, off of the 1990s.

To be honest I had never heard of the games before until Jim mentioned this game (he was looking for a strategy game I could play). I looked up some reviews and they seemed mostly positive for Tropico 3, 4 and 5. Was going to try one of the old versions first, but then I saw the deal for this one so just decided to go with it. =) I don't really have any games to compare it to, I have only ever played Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 & 2 and some Age of Empires games. I like this one though, even though I have only just started the campaign (not sure how long the campaign is). You are basically a president of a Caribbean island (kinda like Cuba) and you will have to advance through different time periods (Colonial ages, Cold Wars, Modern times etc), with different buildings and upgrades becoming available of course. I haven't gone past the Cold Wars yet though, but it seems pretty deep, you have to try and keep your people happy, give them jobs and houses, you can set the budget they get in their job and all that. You have the option to play the game as a nice leader, but you can also be a corrupt president, committing election fraud, bribing people, deporting or killing rebels etc. I haven't done everything yet but so far it seems really good to me. Of course you have to like this type of game, cause sometimes you will just have to wait for things to be built or resources to be collected (though you can speed up the time). Ended up playing it until 4am last night haha. =P
drahkon Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 (edited) I want to start this game today and I'd like to get the multiplayer trophies out of the way early They seem to be easily boostable in about an hour and I'll have some time this evening when the lady is here doing some work. no, not like that :p Anybody who wants to help and get those trophies, too? Here's a guide. Edit: Completed the tutorial and it seems like it might be the city-building-fix I need Edited July 26, 2016 by drahkon
Tales Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 You took so long I already cleared the multiplayer and plat weeks ago :p If you don't find anyone else though I can help out anyway, doesn't even take half an hour. I recommend you play at least one sucessful sandbox game till the modern era. It will make the campaign easier. Also, when you start the campaign, take your time to build a good economy. You will have to cycle back and forth between two islands so it's a good idea to plan ahead and not rush towards the goal. I got more tips but I don't know if you want to figure things out for yourself, so just ask.
drahkon Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 You took so long I already cleared the multiplayer and plat weeks ago :p Sorry, I got caught up in real life and then other games took up my freetime If you don't find anyone else though I can help out anyway, doesn't even take half an hour. Thanks, I might get back to you : peace: I recommend you play at least one sucessful sandbox game till the modern era. I will as that's the first thing I do with games of this genre After some experimentaion in sandbox mode I'll tackle the campaign I got more tips but I don't know if you want to figure things out for yourself, so just ask. I'll try to figure everything out for myself but if I ever run into some trouble I'll ask
Ashley Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I recommend listening to the soundtrack on Spotify while drinking tequila and eating guacamole. That's what I do.

Here's a guide. Edit: Completed the tutorial and it seems like it might be the city-building-fix I need I've played through this recently and loved it. It's a really fun game. You can spend hours playing it...as we found out last weekend. I played against @Eenuh in the multiplayer and it's amazing how quickly you can fail. I went through a stretch of not making it out of the Colonial Era because I didn't get my approval rating high enough. Theeeen, I spent an age trying to keep the peace with the Axis and Allies. We had a long game the other day where we ended up playing together for about....5 hours, I think it was. In the end, a rebellion/uprising took place and I didn't make it. :p
drahkon Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 @Tales helped me getting the multiplayer trophies today. I was being a moron at times and that one trophy wasn't popping when it should've been but it worked out in the end. Thanks again : peace: I owe you one. I've played through this recently and loved it. It's a really fun game. You can spend hours playing it...as we found out last weekend. I really want to give this a proper go now but it's already late and I don't want to be up all night *starts game* ...
drahkon Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Started a sandbox game yesterday. Didn't change any of the preset game settings. Win condition is building a Space Program (I think...could also be Nuclear Program...I can't remember as I had to focus on so many things during my playthrough ). Entered the Cold War Era just now for the first time. Let's see if I can "survive" so I can win the game. With over 700 citizens, a Happiness rating that hasn't dropped under 70% for a long time and a stable economy I hope that I can make it : peace: I always have trouble increasing Housing Happiness...it has never been above 38 so fa, no matter how many houses I build...maybe I'm building them not frequently enough

Mansions of course will be better than country houses for example. Upgraded houses are usually better. And electricity will improve the housing quality too. And small things like having a beautiful area (with parks) can help. And churches help too. For some of the apartments, having road access improves the housing quality too (it will tell you in the description which ones need it). Also, not everyone might be able to afford the houses you build. There are certain edicts that can help with this. One of them for example will make sure that even citizens who are Broke (for example through being unemployed) will go up to the Poor status (meaning they can at least afford the cheapest house). And there's another edict that lowers the wealth level required for people to afford houses (Filthy Rich property becomes available to Rich, Poor becomes available to Broke etc.). Oh and make sure that there are houses where there are jobs. People don't want to have to travel across the island to get to their job. So always have houses near things like factories and farms etc. I hope some of that makes sense haha! Edited July 29, 2016 by Eenuh
