Wii Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 This weeks UK sales charts. Decent showing for Captain Toad but then it did have over 2 weeks to gather these sales. Other than that it's just Smash Bros. hanging on in there for the Wii U.
Ashley Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I imagine it actually just shows the sales for the relevant week and those two extra weeks just haven't been counted at all.
Wii Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 But it's also its first appearance on the Wii U specific chart. The minimal of sales would have got it on that chart. They've got to all count or it wouldn't have charted so high. A lot of people bought it before Christmas.
Ashley Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 But the sales are for the week ending January 3rd so it wouldn't take into account the pre-Christmas sales.
Kav Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Sony just announced that they've sold 18.5 million PS4s worldwide, 4.1 million of those through 23/11/14 to 04/01/2015. That's how you do it Nintendo, create a machine that caters to the gamer.
liger05 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) http://mynintendonews.com/2014/12/27/wii-u-has-apparently-sold-8-million-units-worldwide-since-launch-in-2012/ I reached the milestone as of December 13, 2014, where it sold 220,529 units for the week. In comparison the PS4 has sold 18.5 mil in just over 1 year. Not selling the most isn't the problem but 8 mil after two years when the big hitters have already been released is awful. I don't see the wii u selling 20 mil in its lifetime. Edited January 6, 2015 by liger05

I didn't know PS4 was so high but it just highlights how bad Wii U is doing that in half the time it's sold 10 million units more. Japan is the only area where Wii U remains competitive with PS4, it's a 1 million unit difference, is likely to change over time and Japan console sales are mostly garbage these days. Yes, not a hope of reaching 20 million units. Wii U will have the unenviable title of worst selling Nintendo console and it could well end up so by some considerable distance. Hero-of-Time Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Sony just announced that they've sold 18.5 million PS4s worldwide, 4.1 million of those through 23/11/14 to 04/01/2015. That's how you do it Nintendo, create a machine that caters to the gamer. Crazy numbers. To think, they've done this without needing to catch the expanded audience as well. They've also managed to do this without a killer 1st party exclusive, which once again proves that 3rd parties are what's selling consoles these days. Having exclusives is just the icing on the cake. The PS4 is no without it's problems, the network issues being the main one, but for the most part Sony have done a great job of marketing, appealing to gamers and having a clear plan of action. It's paid off very nicely for them. This year is looking insane for them as well.

According to Reggie Nintendo look at the likes of Google and Amazon as competition so I doubt consumer reaction to the PS4 is telling them anything.

It is mad when you consider there's nothing out on the Japanese side of things that are must-haves... all that is yet to come. Although the home console market is pretty crap over there these days. Mind you, there's still so much to come this year for PS4. I imagine PS4 sales will go through the roof when Uncharted hits.
Hero-of-Time Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 It is mad when you consider there's nothing out on the Japanese side of things that are must-haves... all that is yet to come. Although the home console market is pretty crap over there these days. Mind you, there's still so much to come this year for PS4. I imagine PS4 sales will go through the roof when Uncharted hits. Indeed. Uncharted should do the business for them at the end of the year. The likes of The Order 1886 and Bloodborne covering the start of the year. The Order may not have pulling power but Bloodborne seems to be getting a lot of gamers excited. You also have a host of 3rd party games hitting in the first half of the year as well. There should be plenty to keep gamers busy.
Sheikah Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I'm not expecting The Order to be an amazing game based on what I've seen/heard so far, but it's nice that they've tried to go with a new franchise and an interesting setting. Bloodborne though, cor. Not sure how they managed to swing that as an exclusive.

Bloodborne though, cor. Not sure how they managed to swing that as an exclusive. The order looks so generic and boring its unreal. A new franchise yes but would of liked to of seen the developers try something different other than a setting from Victorian times.
Sheikah Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 It doesn't really look generic; most FPS games these days are set in either the modern day or the future (or an alternate present/future). Generic would imply it looks like all the rest, which it doesn't.
Daft Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 18.5 million is impressive. Now if Sony could stop rushing games out the door before they're finished that'd be fucking great. That goes for Ubisoft and EA, too. And Microsoft.

Guess who is happy to be back from the Christmas break?
Wii Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I'm putting these figures in for this weeks sales for Japan because they're from Media Create, they tend to be more accurate and are what I generally use.
