jayseven Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Apologies if there's already a thread - couldn't find it. Currently watching e04 What's the deal with the lack of cuddy/chase/taub/morally right girl? Is it a money thing? I 'get' the story explanation but it's kinda lame. The whole getting-his-room-back plot is alright but blegh. Still entertaining, but bleh.
Magnus Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 The actress who played Cuddy decided not to renew her contract for another season, so Cuddy is gone forever. The actress who played Thirteen wanted to pursue a movie career but the showrunner said they'd try to get her to return for as many episodes as possible. She returned for one episode. Chase and Taub will be back for the entire season. They'll probably return next episode, I'm guessing.
jayseven Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Cheers man They were referenced enough so it's cool that they're back. Shame about Cuddy though, but I suppose they ended the last season with enough justification for her to stay awaaaand they just said "they boys will be back" so yeah. Coolies!
spirited away Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 This and The Good Wife are my favourite American programs. I have to say I'm glad they replaced Thirteen with another smoking hotty. Loved the ending to episode 4. :P
Tales Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I'm disappointed with 13 leaving but like spirited away I like the new hottie. The chinese girl isn't too bad character wise, she'll probably grow on me like Master. Wish they could have replaced Taub and Chase too, particular Chase. Not that I don't like him, but I think he's been on the show for too long, the series needs new characters to be entertaining.
Magnus Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 If they're going to replace anyone, it should be Foreman. Actually, he should stay on so they can kill him off.
The Bard Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 (edited) Each of the characters seem so emotionally tired this season, House himself seems to be lacking his usual charisma. To be honest, Season 7 ended on a bit of a bastard note, sort of marring House's progression as a character and makes this season, and the show itself seem more like it's beholden to year on year renewals rather than any real idea the writers have of where they want to take it, or any finality that there might be. I know House has never really been about the overarching story as much as the individual puzzles encountered in single episodes, but for a while I was convinced it was going somewhere. Also: Love that the patient in episode 5 of the new season is called Bob Harris. Edited November 8, 2011 by The Bard
Daft Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 There's no overarching story because House will never change. Actually, I think that is the overarching story.
The Bard Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 That's a total cop out brah. I still really like the show, makes me chuckle like little else on television.
spirited away Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 That's a total cop out brah. I still really like the show, makes me chuckle like little else on television. House and Wilson's rapport is the highlight of the show for me.
Magnus Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Sorry for bumping this thread, but House is officially ending this season. I'd say it's about time, but Diageo doesn't like it when I complain about shows outstaying their welcome, and this is one of his favorite shows. But it's about time. I hear the latest episode was great, though. Will watch it later tonight to confirm.
The Peeps Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Not watched much of this season... I go into phases between spending my time watching TV and spending my time playing games :p I'm back into a TV phase now so I'll probably watch the remaining episodes over the next few days. 8 seasons is a long time for a show to go on for. I'm glad they don't feel pressured into making 10 like a lot of shows have recently.
Magnus Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I figured this thread deserved one last bump now that the show is finally over. :p I thought the last season was pretty boring overall, and until the last few episodes, there was nothing there that made it feel like the final season. And then, a few episodes before the end, business as usual, the patient has been cured, House walks into Wilson's office. Wilson: "I have cancer." I actually laughed out loud at that point. The final episode was alright. Not great, but alright. I thought it was neat how they brought back Kutner and Amber as ghosts, but then House started hallucinating characters who were still alive, and at that point it felt like they were just bringing people back because it was the last episode. Which, I mean, they clearly were, but meh. The lack of Cuddy was also really weird, but there's obviously some bad blood between the actress and the show, so I guess there was nothing they could do about that. Having House ride into the sunset with Wilson was probably a good ending, seeing as how people have talked about how it's a love story between two best friends since the show first debuted. The best part of the episode was at the end, when they were showing where the main characters were in their lives, and we see Cameron going home to her family and Chase heading House's old department. Foreman, meanwhile, is sitting alone in his office and being annoyed by how his end table still wobbles. I like to imagine he spent the rest of his life alone, desperately trying and failing to fix his end table.
Jonnas Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I liked the way it ended. Wrapped up the characters neatly (except Cuddy) and House and Wilson ride into the sunset. The last season did feel a bit lacking, but it did provide a good ending to the series, so I'm not disappointed. Also, Park made it enjoyable, but I think I'm the only one who liked her
Magnus Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I can't even remember who Park was. Was she the Chinese girl or the token attractive girl? Neither of them really had much to do. Then again, that's true for most of the supporting cast, and has been the case for most of the show's run. The only supporting character (other than Wilson, I guess) who actually had anything interesting to do this season was Chase, and that arc was only a few episodes long. I loved how Foreman's only storyline this season was having an affair with a married woman and breaking up with her after she told her husband about them. He was always my least favorite character.
Jonnas Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Her storylines usually involved Chase, so you were clearly skimming through those scenes I liked how her attitude/role tended to deviate from the rest of the team for one reason or the other. I always liked Foreman, but that storyline was quite weak. I still didn't mind his reduced role in this season, I was getting tired of seeing him never move on. Chase was good, though. Like Foreman, he was annoying me, what with being forever on House's team, so even if his arc was short, he did exactly what I wanted him to do. Adams was meh. Taub usually annoys me (I suppose he's to me what Foreman is to you ), but he was worse than ever in this season. Parents who aren't ready to be parents annoy me in general, really. Also, it's a shame that we didn't see much of Wilson before the cancer (though that "fake kid" episode was...urgh)
Magnus Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Aww, man. I should have called her Asian. Now I look like a racist. :p Calling anything she was involved with a "storyline" is pushing it quite a bit, I think. It was all peripheral stuff that never went anywhere, but I really should know better than to expect ongoing storylines on House. This is the same show where Cuddy and Wilson were lucky if they got more than one scene per episode. Not sure how anyone could like Foreman. He has he tego of house, but isn't nearly as smart - and House is actually funny a lot of the time. Foreman just sits there on his high horse and thinks he's special. Plus he tried to infect Cameron with a dangerous disease just so he'd have someone to spend his last hours alive with, and it's kind of hard to come back from that.
Jonnas Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 If there are scenes around it, it's a storyline Also, maybe I worded it wrong, I didn't mean I sympathise with him. Characters like him usually end up as strawmen or become extremely secondary, so it is interesting to see a character like this being fleshed out more.
