Happenstance Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Now Dragonball is one I could never make through, I tried Kai which was the abridged version but still no luck.
Shorty Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 Don't get me wrong when I was younger I probably watched the first 300-400 episodes of One Piece more than once and enjoyed it repeatedly. The pacing was occasionally bad back then but not a total joke. It's the subsequent 600+ where its lost the plot lol. One Piece is tied together by awesome, emotional, gut-punching backstories and takes exciting leaps forward in the story where other series would just stew for a while. So when you spread those key moments out to be 10, 20, even 50 episodes apart, it loses all its rhythm. 1

Probably because they stopped doing fillers arcs, which everyone hated. At least you could skip them. They've improved since Wano started though. They've increased the animation budged for action scenes which look great. You still get recap episodes every so often, but it's not too bad.
Happenstance Posted September 1 Posted September 1 (edited) Just checked and the first 3 arcs are up on iPlayer. What's nice as well is that they've split them into their arcs so its easy to search through. Edited September 1 by Happenstance 1
Hero-of-Time Posted September 2 Posted September 2 My impression after watching One Piece for the first time...the opening theme tune sucks. Not huge on the voice acting either. Probably would have preferred to watch it in Japanese.
Happenstance Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I found the English openings grew on me and I got so used to the English dubs that I couldn't move over to the Japanese versions.
Hero-of-Time Posted September 3 Posted September 3 I enjoyed episode 4 of One Piece. Seeing how Luffy got his powers and hat was pretty cool and I loved Shanks.

The reason I watch subbed over dubbed is not for superiority or because I think "original is better" - it's because when you can understand the cringey shonen words being shouted out loud, it's just so silly. 2

Haha. Yeah, it just seems like a random bunch of words thrown together. I prefer the end credits song.
Julius Posted September 6 Posted September 6 (edited) Trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Junji Ito's Uzumaki, which releases 28th September: Looks gross, which is to say that it looks perfect. I'll take five more, please and thank you. Edited September 6 by Julius 1
Hero-of-Time Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Still continuing with watching One Piece. Big fan of Zoro but I'm not liking Nami that much. Also, all of the special moves in this show have ridiculous names. Watching this makes me wanna play Skies of Arcadia again.

Happenstance Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I'm moving at a much slower pace than you, only at ep 4 but I'll probably continue. It's been nice remembering the old episodes and I know there's some arcs I really enjoyed that'll be cool to rewatch.
Julius Posted September 8 Posted September 8 (edited) Finished S4 of Demon Slayer after starting it the other day. S2 is still the peak of it for me, but that entire 30+ minute finale and the penultimate episode's credits were just flexing so damn hard with the craziest anime eye candy I think I've seen in a show – it matched movie quality and then some. The entire finale is basically just the most glorified and stretched out post-credits scene and it freaking works. Which makes complete sense with the knowledge that we're getting a trilogy to finish it all off. It does seem a bit rushed, but hey, I'll take three gorgeous and fight-heavy anime films to round this all off before it would otherwise run itself into the ground Edited September 9 by Julius
Julius Posted September 9 Posted September 9 (edited) Trying to make the most of the anime mood I find myself in, I finally returned to Yu Yu Hakusho last night after taking a very long break from it (was only 7 or 8 episodes in when I started back in Feb), now 12 episodes in. I've got loads of thoughts, like how Kuwabara is already one of the greatest and most likeable characters of all-time, but what I really want to talk about is: What the hell did Togashi do in a past life to have not one, but two, of his adapted works get 10/10 OPs? Yes this is the second time I'm mentioning this, but Hunter x Hunter gets Departure and Yu Yu gets this wonderful OP. Smile Bomb is a certified banger The ED, Homework Never Ends, also SLAPS Did I use those terms right @Hero-of-Time? I'm sure @drahkon will back me up that no other words could convey the same feelings Edited September 9 by Julius 1
Julius Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Uzumaki continues to look like absolute perfection: Can't wait
Ike Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Dan Da Dan anime has started airing, would recommend based on the manga. 1
Ike Posted October 13 Posted October 13 One Piece anime is on hiatus until April 2025 to improve quality, a move I 100% agree with.
Happenstance Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Looks like Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle will be shown at UK cinemas. Think I might have to get tickets.
Happenstance Posted December 2 Posted December 2 Did you end up sticking with One Piece @Hero-of-Time?
