Posted June 17, 2011 (edited) Lady Gaga - 7.8/10 I dislike Lady Gaga, I just don't find her likeable, and I feel like she's one big act. I actually like the song, though. Paramore - 9.4/10 I literally love (nearly, Decode...) everything they've ever done, and i love this just as much. The Automatic - 6.6/10 Not overly keen on this song, it's average, but just doesn't stand out to me. Kanye West & Co. - 8.1/10 I only really like Nicki's part, the rest of it is ok. Posted June 17, 2011 I think I'll do the ratings thing: Lady Gaga - 6/10 A decent song, just not my thing. Paramore - 7/10 I like it, but I don't think it's anything special. The Automatic - 9/10 I used to absolutely love it years ago, and it likely is just nostalgia that's making me like it now. Kanye West & Co. - 1/10 Urgh. My poor ears. Posted June 17, 2011 I hate the first half of Kanye West's Monster. Shit. Shit vibe. Shit lyrics. Shit musicology. But then, in some ways, it only serves to emphasise by juxtaposition how Nicki Minaj's part is the greatest thing I've heard. She has such a feel for the music and rhythm. She has such a way to make a string of words the greatest thing you've heard. And it's so long. She has such stamina. "You could be the King, but watch the Queen conquer. [...] So let me get this straight, wait I'm the rookie, but my features and my shows 10 times your pay? 50k for a verse, no album out, yeah my money's so tall that my barbie's gonna climb it!" I'm dead when she's finished. And I love how the song mellows out after her part, as though everyone else involved realises in that moment they'll never be as great as her.
