I said I'd make a thread for it, so I shall:

Out in cinemas as of today. Rather different film direction from Joe Wright's previous films, Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, but as a first attempt at an action-thriller, you'd think he'd done it before as it's very well done. Trailer below for viewing pleasure:

To try and put some idea of the story across, Saoirse Ronan plays Hanna, a young girl who has been brought up and trained by her father, Erik (played by Eric Bana), in isolation in the snow covered forests of Finland to become the an assassin to kill Marissa Viegler, played by Blanchett. It sees her going from Finland to the deserts of Morocco to Berlin in an attempt to flee capture and get her kill, with a few twists along the way about her history and how characters are related.

-------------------------------

Since seeing the trailer back in January, I've been waiting for this to be released and was excited to finally sit down and watch the film. And I will say I wasn't disappointed as I loved it.

Wright has done a fantastic job directing the film and outside of the opening section, which feels rather slap-dashed thanks largely to how its been editted together, it's a great watch mixing action with intrigue in seeing Ronan's character coming into contact with the 'outside world', or rather coming into the world to experience it properly for the first time.

The acting is similarly superb, with Ronan's performance showing true conviction and never dropping from it's high perch to reveal her actual teenage self. You're fully sold on her character and her interactions, both with the world around her and the characters she encounters. Bana doesn't get a huge amount of screen time but even with what he gets, he also puts in a fantastic performance. And Blanchett, apart from that accent, also pulls out the stops to portray a believable character.

Oh and the soundtrack, by the Chemical Brother, is awesome :D

So anyone else interested in the film/thinking of going to see it?

I really, really liked it.

Didn't remember much of the trailer other than who was in it, so went in fairly fresh.

Wonderfully directed, so interesting. Broke cinematic rules a few times, gorgeous visually etc.

Loved the concept/themes - come on fairytales underpinning the story, but never being obtuse or in your face. Except for some visual metaphors, but they worked.

The acting was great.

I loved the pacey editing. So concise. The title card. The ending. Yes.

A good film. Recommended.

Don't have a problem with Blanchett myself as she's acted well in everything I've seen her in. It's more her accent in this that's annoying compared to anything else as it just feels so put on.

But go watch it people! It's worth a watch.

Yeah her accent is annoying since she does English way better/the accent is nicer on her, but then I'm so aware of stereotypes in film these days and having an English "villain" is too steretypical for me. So it that sense her accent added a joke twist.

Went to see this today, thought it was brilliant. Went into it knowing nothing, my friend told me it was like the Bourne films but with a young girl instead of Matt Damon.

Great soundtrack, along with the cinematography created a great atmosphere. Tense and edgy.

Brilliantly acted by all, Blanchett was annoying but I felt that she fit the role perfectly.

Nice amount of comedic moments for a film that didn't need them. Made it stand out from your standard thriller.

Loved the closure at the end.

Would definitely recommend.
