They actually physically can't without development costs getting so high that the games could never hope to make any level of profit whatsoever.

Re-modeled Wii HD to come out before the 6th Nintendo Console?

Surely something like that has to be in up Nintendo's Sleeves... Sony repackaged PS3 in a smaller shell, M$ repackaged 360 in a smaller shell, Nintendo to repackage Wii in a larger shell.

on topic, i'm glad to hear this, i havent got round to buying a PS3 yet, let alone start worrying about the next Microsoft console as well as PS4.

I fully expect a Wii HD next year. Especially as Kinect will really hurt the Wii this christmas.

What profit? Core games are not doing so great in business terms. The future is casual gaming focused. Same goes for consoles. The 360 is already going to transition.

I really dont see Nintendo wasting resources in developing an HD version of the current Wii.

In fact id say they're balls deep in developing a full blown successor, along with the 3DS, 3DS Lite, 3DSiXL, etc...

PC games do not look a full generation in front of the 360 and PS3 though, do they?

Also, exactly what PC games are noticibly more advanced than the most high end console games? Crysis...? Is there anything else that's prominently more impressive?

My point was about making a jump in visual quality that can be considered a "generation leap", ie PS1/N64/Saturn to PS2/Xbox/Gamecube/Dreamcast, to 360/PS3 (The Wii obviously visually is still closer to last gen).

People would not wish to buy a Playstation 4 or Xbox 720 (or whatever) for everything running at 1080p native and higher framerates. The casual market are not going to see enough of a difference there to warrant throwing away their current consoles.

The only way the difference will be notable enough to warrant true successors to the HD systems is if we're talking a detail level comparable to real life.

Visuals can still get a lot better before getting anywhere near to real life. Hence trailers always look better than the game, unless they use in-game cutscenes of course.

Plus, game engines can get a lot better. Size/content is still limited.

Well Metro 2033, Just Cause 2, Mafia II. On their highest settings they are noticeably much better looking than Console counterparts, a generational leap in graphics no Crysis is the only one for that still. Then again Graphics aren't the only part of making a game more advanced. Mafia II extensively uses PhysX to improve cloth and particles, and it's quite demanding to simulate a persons clothing as if it was real cloth.

I'm sorry but I'm not buying the graphics debate. As far as I'm concerned they're as good as PC. Of course there's the odd game, the odd bit of immense hardware, but where's the integration and the constant releases?

For 4 year old consoles (kind of) you'd be wondering if better chips weren't available. Crysis 2 is a showcase at best anyhow. Technically it's quite astounding but when you compare it to stylish monster titles, there's not a whole lot of difference between them.
