drahkon Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Oh my fucking god. I just raged quit. Playing on hard. Ghost of Lady Comstock. I can't defeat her. I just can't. Ammo quickly used up, infinite monster spawns, when you die she regains health. Fuck it.
drahkon Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Wait 'til you get 1999 Mode.... Right now, I don't even want to play this game at all...but I want to see how the story unfolds I suck at console shooters -.-
Cube Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 If you don't like it due to the difficulty, then couldn't you lower the difficulty?
drahkon Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) If you don't like it due to the difficulty, then couldn't you lower the difficulty? I could, but I never do that. I always start games on the hardest possible difficulty available. Edited April 18, 2013 by drahkon

Shorty Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Actually something went wrong when I did that fight iirc, she just got stuck in a corner and stopped attacking
martinist Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Just finished it this afternoon, pretty good twist ending. When I read about the ghost battle I thought it was only one time, I was sadly mistaken. I died...alot

Ammo quickly used up, infinite monster spawns, when you die she regains health. Fuck it. Wait 'til you get 1999 Mode.... So funnily enough, I just got to this bit on 1999 mode and I think I'm going to have to give up. If you got there with the right gear, and the right weapons, it's probably not a problem, but I'm now trapped in the bank, with shit weapons, no useful gear... I must've tried at least 30 times and never gotten her to below 50% health. I really don't feel like starting again...... damn....

Currently not in possession of my PS3, but I'll give it another try when I'm back home. I can already hear me screaming and cursing.
Shorty Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 With the right gear, you can kick any boss' ass with Brittle Skin & Charge. Unfortunately, I don't have Brittle Skin. I didn't struggle with the boss on Hard so I never bothered preparing, in fact I forgot that you fought her in the bank since I just strolled through it on my last playthrough. So I wasn't prepared at all.... If it was possible now, I would even consider cheating by re-loading a checkpoint before some gear until I get Brittle Skin, because even that would be better than starting again
Magnus Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Yep, that's what games were like in 1999, alright. I played System Shock 2 as a stealthy, melee-focused hacker only to get stuck with a sort-of-boss late in the game in a room filled with respawning enemies. Fortunately, they gave you a broken-down rocket launcher (?) shortly before the boss fight, so I poured some of my saved points into repair and fixed it up, and whenever it broke down again, I'd have to circle-strafe while repairing it from my inventory. Fun times.
Shorty Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Yeah there's one big difference though. Even on a 1999 PC game I would have 25 saves to backtrack to
Magnus Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 True, difficult games/sections were so much more bearable back when you could save any time you wanted. :p
Shorty Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Nice, but I think I would prefer a simpler version a la the in-game rendition.
Cube Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Nice, but I think I would prefer a simpler version a la the in-game rendition. They did a full version of that. Interestingly, Booker's voice actor did the guitar.
dwarf Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) That choir version was in-game. It was my favourite part - floating through the paradisal Columbia in the pod before descending slowly into the darker chapel, complete with stunning candle reflections in the water. And it is the better version. Edit: Booker also sang with her in production but Levine opted against it in the end. That's also on Youtube. Edited April 22, 2013 by dwarf
Shorty Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Yeah realised that when I posted it but I meant the diegetic version of 'in-game' :p
drahkon Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Really? Three times? Three fucking times? That's it, I've beaten her, I will finish the game, but I will not touch 1999 mode. This boss fight is one of the worst I have ever had to endure. It's way too long, way too boring, way too ammo/salt consuming. The latter being the only thing that makes this fight difficult and annoying. I hated every last bit of that.
dwarf Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Are you on hard mode? You might find the ending sequence challenging too for the same reasons, although it's much more doable and gives you a chance to deploy some sneaky tactics as well as learn from previous mistakes.
drahkon Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Are you on hard mode? Yep. You might find the ending sequence challenging too for the same reasons Great. Gonna be fun. The game could've been so good, but it's these things that take away some of the enjoyment. It's not that I hate the game now. The story is compelling, the gameplay is sweet (apart from the mentioned bullshit) and the art style...my god, the beautiful art style. But difficulty should be achieved by other means than just running out of ammo making you a useless human being.
dwarf Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Don't worry, it's nowhere near as hopeless. I found it frustrating but I felt like I could mix it up more, whereas the sections you mention are plain cheap. That said I think I only died twice to Lady Comstock. Without spoiling anything about the climactic fight, consider using a ton of shock traps in the centre and use the octopus bash at the perimeter for the tougher enemies.
Magnus Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 You reap what you sow when you decide to play on hard.
Shorty Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Worth mentioning, I was also going for the no-Dollar Bill achievement. I may just give up on that as there's a vending machine in the corner and I have over $2000.... But that means playing the whole thing again if I ever want all the cheevos...
