Dictatorships/ evil regimes

I'll stretch out a limb and say World War II has been the most important thing ever to happen to the world. It gave reason for so many things to change.

For example, it gave forum for feminism, and people finally realised that women can have a say in things. (Feminism is my favourite thing, and my number 1 reason for thinking now is better than then.)

You know that the NUWSS and WSPU formed well before the first world war right? And women were given the right to vote in 1928.

The other thing you have to remember is that Communism HAS worked, on a smaller scale. There are several religions that have their own little farm colonies where everyone lives and works without pay, but for the benefit of the colony at therefore, themselves.

The main problem with communism on a larger scale is that there's little motivation for doing well. You just do your work and everyone gets the same benefits from doing that work. Someone who's better at doing that work isn't necisarily rewarded for that. This is one of the main reasons that we have socialism in many western countries, but not communism.

While I don't know much about the history of feminism, I do think those movements were a necessary step our society had to make towards gender equality (and by equality, I mean fair treatment. I do realize there are relevant differences between men and women that should be considered).

Things are still a bit on the clumsy side, but we'll get there, I'm sure.

Hmmm, I'd disagree. Completely.

I don't think that chairdriver was talking about those "feminists" who believe all men are worthless. Fuck those.

Back on-topic:

I do agree that WWII was important in many aspects. I can't even imagine what today's society would be without it. What if the US wasn't the major cultural influence it is now? What if Germany was still a Nazi state? So many things would be different nowadays...

I put it down to the fact that people have experienced otherwise beforehand (e.g. they've been rewarded or realised that previously, people were rewarded for working harder) and therefore this idea is instilled into them. Perhaps, if civilisation/society were to begin with communism with no knowledge of anything that came before, the result could be very different.

Who knows!

Dictatorship ISN'T considered evil in our democratically elected nation. Only by idiots such as yourself who don't understand it.

And communism created no evil. Stalin killed 20 million, he was a commie, therefore communism is evil. He was also male does that mean men are evil? Are Russians evil? What about people with moustaches?

You clearly don't have any clue about communism. I very much doubt you even know what it is. If you ever speak to any older eastern europeans you may be surprised to find out that most of them preferred communism.

Prize for identifying the correct flaw in reasoning that stuwii made.

I just thought I'd post this:

I wish I had that voice sometimes.

I would say it's the reverse - since joining the EU the fuckers have been swimming in money. Places like Lithuania actually rank higher than the UK when it comes to standard of living for some ridiculous reason!

Explain how this is in any way ridiculous...?

communism and evil must be linked, in the same way a one united race looks a good idea but in practical reality this becomes an evil due to genocide. The idea of communism is not evil but in the real world it can be seen to be

I love the contrast on these forums between people like say, Nick-tendo or Daft compared to Stuwii. It's quite remarkable. I have nothing else to add to this, people are articulating my vague thoughts better than I could already.
