James Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) Did u have any time in mind? wont be able to play now unfortunately. Edited January 3, 2011 by James
Cookyman Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Whos got this on the PS3 then? My copy should turn up this week so wanted to see how many people on my friends list i'll be up against. Me! I've just finsihed all cop events but still have a few to do as a racer - done some of the dlc events too. Autolog is fantastic but will be fun to get a group of us playing online!
LegoMan1031 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 wont be able to play now unfortunately. No prob, i couldn't make it either!
Happenstance Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 My copy arrived today. Not really sure what I think of the game so far. The loading times are getting on my nerves, especially when I restart a race and have to go through them all over again. Also the steering just doesnt feel quite right.
Cookyman Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Nice another PS3 owner has this - things on Autolog are heating up! the steering just doesnt feel quite right. Have you played burnout? the game plays just like it - the steerings solid stick with it!
Happenstance Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Yeah and I dont remember having any problems with the steering in Burnout
Dan_Dare Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 The steering is a bit weird- at least at first. I had loads of trouble, all my cornering sucked and I generally made a pigs ear of the whole debacle. Then it clicked when I got my hands on the Mclaren f1- something in that course / car combo forced me in to a new mindset and it came together pretty well after that. It's all about getting a feel for the mass of the car, the pull of the brakes and the rhythm of the racing line. Another thing is that, unlike Burnout, it's as much about holding back from a powerslide as it is pulling a sick slide out.
Daft Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 The game just hasn't clicked with me. I haven't played it for at least a week. Doubt I'll go back to it.
Cookyman Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 The game just hasn't clicked with me. I haven't played it for at least a week. Doubt I'll go back to it. Play it some more Daft - we need your times on Autolog!
S.C.G Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 This game is amazingly good and addictive I've had it almost a full week - I bought it last Thursday evening - and I've played it every day since, without fail, purely because I enjoy it that much. Everything just feels 'right' about the game, the turning, drifting, vehicle weight etc... it all feels well-tuned and is exactly the kind of game I'd expect from Criterion who have done a fantastic job on it; it feels like the perfect hybrid as it's in the same leauge as the Burnout titles but has a new level of detail and refinement put into it which the older Need for Speed games were famous for I believe. It's also made Need for Speed good again but that's just down to the developer, I found it almost insulting that they put a trailer for NFS:Shift2Unleashed (title lol) in the game before you even get to play it because as far as I'm aware they will be going back to their original development team I assume so... no Criterion probably = no buy from me. Guessing it's purely a one-off as Criterion no doubt will want to get back to making more Burnout titles but what they have created here will probably be fondly remembered for a long time to come. In other news my - very late - copy from Play actually arrived today (lol) so I'm glad I bought a second copy as I've had a hell of a good weeks worth of play out of it already, think I may trade the extra copy in at my local independent game retailer as I can almost certainly get back what I paid for it.
Daft Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Play it some more Daft - we need your times on Autolog! It bores and annoys me. It's not weighty enough for me to enjoy getting a best time and it's not brutal enough for me to enjoy taking people down. Paradise City is where I belong.
Goafer Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) Just got it today. Did anyone else have trouble getting the update? Mine is taking the best part of forever. All other internet things seem fine, just the update is going stupidly slow. 560 minutes left apparently. Edit: It's working now. Edited January 9, 2011 by Goafer
Happenstance Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Ok ive decided I do like the actual racing now, even the sluggish steering is growing on me a bit but the game design itself is really pissing me off. Specifically the amount of times it loads pointless upgrade screens etc that just leave me waiting to either retry a race or just carry on and pick a new one.
Goafer Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 This game definitely gets better once you get better cars. The ones in the beginning feel like trying to steer a barge. Some pictures:
Cookyman Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 This game definitely gets better once you get better cars. The ones in the beginning feel like trying to steer a barge. I totally agree - once you get the faster cars the game really opens up. To the all moaners and whingers I say play the game some more. Still working on the Platinum on this I'm now max rank (20) as a cop and a racer. Just need to get all gold on the 108 events now - gulp. Oh and if you want a challenge try the super sports dlc pack - man some of those events are rock hard!
James Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 ign competition > sign up and it automatically updates with your best time for the vanishing point time trial. http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/114/1143453p1.html?_cmpid=IGNUK1368 My current time is 1:12:56 and that was on the near edge of insanity. Open to both PS3 and XBOX
S.C.G Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 ^ I managed about 1:13:86 I think... but I know that I can do better, anyway may give it a few tries but I'm not all that fussed, I read up and there are three stages to the competition and only the first 5000 PSN's and 5000 GT's to register will be counted with the fastest 50% going through to the next round etc. Still it's a fun little competition I suppose.
Domstercool Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I now have Gold on all events (plus the DLC) Man some of them took a few retries but finally done them!
James Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 managed to get down to 1:12.05 I think that should be enough to get into the next round.
Strange Cookie Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I'm not a carfreak, and haven't playen any NFS apart from Most Wanted, but the idea of carchases won me over. Getting the cops on your tail was the best thing about Most Wanted, and it's great in this game. Even better when you're a cop. Mighty Takedown of Justice!
Cookyman Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Wow the final racer event on this is amazing 43.5 miles of racing goodness - in a 253mph car. Gotta love this vid - Hot Pursuit 2010 - The Scenic Route
