flameboy Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 (edited) Couldn't find a thread for this so thought I would. It's the next big RPG from Bioware, truly goes back to their roots none of this space opera Mass Effect crap get back to the Baldurs Gate stuff (the last game of theres I played!) Anyway reason I posted is because; EA 2D is set to release Dragon Age Journeys today, a browser-based tactical RPG based on the upcoming Dragon Age Origins. If you're interested in picking up Origins, you might want to check it out -- there are prizes in it for you.According to a Q&A in the Dragon Age Journeys developer's blog, "By completing certain accomplishments in Journeys, you can unlock 3 items for use when you purchase a copy of Dragon Age: Origins for the PC, Xbox 360 or PS3." "By playing DAJ while signed in with your EA account, these items will automatically be added to your inventory in DA:O when you sign in with that same account. These entitlements work across all three platforms." The flash-based tactical RPG was created by Daniel Stradwick, who previously worked on the web-based strategy RPG The Monster's Den. Like it's more advanced sibling, it features character classes and talent trees, as well as a similar interface. Along with the recently released character creator, Dragon Age Journeys should keep you busy until the game's official release on November 3. You can download the first of three chapters here at noon PST. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3176603 Edited October 22, 2009 by flameboy
Dan_Dare Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 really? tip: don't look in to the advertising campaign. Otherwise, it's looking excellent. Very much in the mold of the old Black Isle RPGs which, to my mind, are something of a Golden Age of classic gaming. I'm really looking forward to it.

Yeah the over the top gore and marlyn manson music to the trailers are awful and cover up what is probably one of the most hardcore western RPG's you will ever play... Baldurs Gate was soooo awesome...wish I still had it!
Daft Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Just watched a gameplay video. It looks like the drokiest game ever.
flameboy Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Just watched a gameplay video. It looks like the drokiest game ever. lol...yet if it was an action adventure people would be all over it!
Daft Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 It would be nice if they tried something that wasn't a like this or SciFi. A real off the wall RPG, maybe a bit like Tim Burton's 9. (Not sure why I'm thinking of that exactly.)
Nolan Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Indeed, this thread could easily turn into gushing about the grand age of wRPGs Baldurs Gate Planescape Fallout Icewind Dale. So much awesome in them. I don't know if anyone else played with teh Character creator released on PC or not, but I did. Looking through the skills even if it isn't officially DnD it might as well be. The skills are pretty well ripped from the system, which is a good thing. Baldurs Gate was soooo awesome...wish I still had it! Amazon £13.99 I also recommend Fallout Collection £3.79 and Icewind Dale £13.10 I am a bit perturbed at only seeing Atari on those BG and ID boxes though...They have the DnD license, but those games were made and (originally) published by Black Isle Bioware and Interplay. Near as I can tell the series didn't change hands to Atari just the license. It would be nice if they tried something that wasn't a like this or SciFi. Daft Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Well, how is this for different. Bioware made the MDK series. It's been 8 years since MDK2 came out. I loved it. It wasn't an RPG.

Already own the fallout games from gog.com http://www.gog.com/en/search/sort/search/fallout no CD drive due to netbook... Yea I know about Gog, but it was cheaper on amazon, plus I didn't know about the no CD drive things. Ouch. You could always look into a external USB drive, otherwise your out of luck I don't think they're on any Digital service yet. It's been 8 years since MDK2 came out. I loved it. It wasn't an RPG. Well, yea not an RPG and it's been a while but it's still different. The majority of people only know them as an RPG dev, and I shudder to think how many only know them from Kotor or just ME. Maybe they're going through a cycle, they Medieval type things then MDK and went on to Star Wars and Space Opera, Now they're doing 3 of those perhaps a return to MDK is next.
Daft Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Yeah, I'm just saying I'd love an RPG of the calibre that they do but for it to be a bit off the wall.
Wesley Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I don't know much about it apart from that I'm buying it. Moooofooo. This, CoD and PDXBLA are the Christmas hits for me.

Yeah I keep meaning to pick one up, namely so I can play the Bladerunner game!
Mundi Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Definitely getting this, loved every game Bioware have made so I highly doubt this being will be less then great. On the subject of Bioware making different RPGs, they made Jade Empire which is a great game. On the subject of JE, that game really needs a sequel.
flameboy Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Never played Jade Empire myself heard good things about it though...glad to see the old school Bioware getting some love on here...
Gizmo Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 What are the console controls like on this? Don't think my PC will thank me if I bring them together, it disagreed enough with Left4Dead and thats a source engine game.

Try the Character Creator to gauge...um rendering a single character over a black background....hmm not much of a stress test. The console controls are more action-y with the camera pulled in tight Mass Effect style and fewer enemies on screen, while the PC gives the classic Baldur's Gate high isometric camera angle and more enemies on screen. Consoles couldn't really handle it:cry: Sad cause my laptop probably can't as well.
Wesley Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I might give this a spin on PC then if that's the case. I'm sure my PC could run it, if it worked with Far Cry I'm sure it works with this.
flameboy Posted October 23, 2009 Author Posted October 23, 2009 Well I don't have a PC that will get even close to running this...so its PS3 for me...anyone played the Dragon Age Origin Journey's thingy yet it will unlock goodies for the game proper when it releases.
Mundi Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) Extensive console gameplay: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-dragon-age-origins-360/17-1528/ I am a bit torn over which to get, console or PC version. I know my PC can handle it but I prefer playing games on a console and if the console version is different from the PC version I want to know which one is "better" EDIT: PC gameplay too: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-dragon-age-origins/17-1477/ Edited October 23, 2009 by Mundi

Mundi Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I like it more over the shoulder. After watching both videos I see the only noticeable difference is the camera view and interface and it looks good on both. So I'm going with the Xbox 360 version.
Wesley Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Yeah, cheers for those videos. Think I'm going for the 360 version too. Probably wait until Christmas to buy it though.
