ReZourceman Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Massive problem with PC. i turn it on and it gets to screen that says UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME on a blue screen and tells me to restart. I restart annd try safe mode etc, but not working. keeps going back to this blue unmount screen. Shit.
Nolan Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 BSOD, Blue Screen Of Death my good man. Unmountable Boot Volume makes me think of the Hardrive, but I really don't know. A dead HD shouldn't make a PC BSOD, it just shouldn't go past Bios at that point.
Raining_again Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Try this (if that fails a reformat is in order) its not a dead hd, just a dead/corrupted boot file.
Wesley Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 The title of this thread was misleading. I want my time back.
ReZourceman Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 Try this (if that fails a reformat is in order) its not a dead hd, just a dead/corrupted boot file. Thanks for the help. I don't have one cos' this PCI got refurbished. How do I format? Hmmm this is quite shit. Had some docs of reasonable importance.
Nolan Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Before formatting, ask around to see if anyone you know has an XP disk you can use.
ReZourceman Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 Before formatting, ask around to see if anyone you know has an XP disk you can use. Oh cool, so I can use any disk. In the event that I get a new PC, can I put my old hard drive in it, and if I did what would happen in re to its operation. Thanks xoxox

If you used it on another computer you should be able to access the majority if not all of the contents.
ReZourceman Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 Might just get a new PC. I was literally thinking about it anyway. How easy is putting the HD in, and I assume it would go in addition to a new one? Thanks for the help.
Molly Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Have you tried turning it off and on again? OH COME ON :p
McPhee Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 A broken MBR is no reason to buy a new PC really, the PC itself still works it's just one of the files on the hard drive is screwed. If you can aquire an XP disk (assuming you're on XP? Vista if you're on Vista) then you can fix it easily enough. If not then a temporary solution would be to get someone to download the Windows 7 Release Candidate and install that. It'll have a file in it called Windows.Old, all of your old files will be in there.
ReZourceman Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 No one I know haz XP disk? Can someone please send me one to borrow, and I'll send it back/pay for postage etc.
Jimbob Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 If i knew about this a few months ago, i had an XP disk at mine and could of sent it out. Legit as well.
RoadKill Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Download a copy of ERD Commander from a popular torrent site, burn it to a CD, boot from it, when booted, start>run>cmd to get up a command line, type chkdsk c: /f and with any luck it'll fix everything
Davey_T Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Download Super Grub Disk and burn to a cd. Boot from cd and repair windows mbr.
ReZourceman Posted June 5, 2009 Author Posted June 5, 2009 Right I've got the disk.....but having read what I have to do on that site.....it doesn't even reach the welcome screen.... What the fuck do I do/!?!!?!
Caris Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Take it to a computer shop, would save you so much hassle!
McPhee Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Right I've got the disk.....but having read what I have to do on that site.....it doesn't even reach the welcome screen.... What the fuck do I do/!?!!?! Put the disk in as soon as you switch the PC on (if not then before and reset). What does the computer do? If it's the same thing as without the disk then it's ignoring it and booting from the HDD. You'll need to change the boot order in the bios set-up menu ("press Del. to enter set-up").
ReZourceman Posted June 5, 2009 Author Posted June 5, 2009 Taking it to shop is last (expensive...as opposed to free) option. What order do I want to put the boot in? Boot from disk I assume.
