Jimbob Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 (edited) Picked up a few achievements earlier, 1 for breaking in 3 horses. 1 for "Discovering" all areas and 1 for completing a Journal Challenge. And 2 story-based ones as well. Not bad for an evenings play. Edit: I'm in a bit of a competition with my mate on this. It seems what-ever achievement he gets, i pick it up and visa-versa. Think we are seeing who can 100% the game first. In which case, i'm ahead by 2 (but it works out as he's got 3 i havn't got and i've got 6 he hasn't got). nightwolf Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I quite like the achievements in this game, currently doing the low-level stuff such as shooting deer etc, but it's interesting to do on the way to hide outs.
Jimbob Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I tend to work on some of the challenges on the way to hide-outs in Multi-player. One of them i'm finding tricky is shooting a hat off someone then dis-arming them in 3 seconds after the initial hat shoot-off.

Ellmeister Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 I've now seen 2 couples commit suicide in the single player game. Just randomly see some guy dead and a woman drinking then she dies! And another one where some guy is dead and another guy shoots himself in the face. WTF.
Jimbob Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 In the case of people wondering how to get the bulls and stuff on Red Dead. You have to complete 4 levels of "Legendary Mode". Which means when you reach Level 50, you have an option to re-set and re-do the leveling up again (you lose all weapons, steeds and characters), with the addition of 1 Legendary steed per Legendary rank. So if anyone has the time to complete 250 levels, carry on. Rockstar fixed the XP glitch so you cannot use that to get the ranks, like many people have done already. And they've reduced how much XP you get per Gang Hideout by 1/2. So only do this if you have all the time in the world (as in all day for a few months)
nightwolf Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I did think originally it was alot of xp, now I have to do hmm 2 maybe 3 hideouts to reach a level, when are the mounts available? I've had this horse for a few levels and I'm level 15 and nada!
Jimbob Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 There is a new one available at level 22, then at 33 and again at 40. A final one is available at 50, but then see my above post for what could happen if you choose to do it.
nightwolf Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Bah so many levels to go then, I can't play tonight and I've no clue when I'll get the internet back once I leave here tonight (I'm moving tomorrow and of course switching on the internet takes ages).
Haden Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 How many guys play this regulary? I am quite low level but would like to posse it up if theres a few about. Gamertag is HeadlessHaden.
Ellmeister Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 You got xbox or ps3? Are there any other ways to get a lot of xp other than repeatedly doing the same hideouts?

Take out a "Most Wanted" player can earn you 200xp, becoming "Most Wanted" can earn you 200xp. And completing each challenge can earn you in the region between 50xp and 250xp. If you got a 360 Haden, i'm always about and willing to play. Am on the game online near enough 4 times a week.
nightwolf Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Haden I'll be on in about 20minutes so I'll add you , always fun to go do hideouts on red dead and I want a few more levels before monday.
Jimbob Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I'll add you a bit later Haden, hopefully see on on Red Dead soon. Shall be on it tomorrow night and over the weekend days (Sunday night as well)
nightwolf Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 I will but ps3 version unfortunately... I am hissing at you. BE GONE! ..
Jimbob Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 So is anyone online anytime today? I may be, not 100% sure yet. Just finished the most tedious challenge, the survivalist!!. Jeez, collecting flowers and herbs has got to be the most boring thing to do. But, it is for the Legendary Outfit.
tapedeck Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 (edited) Really getting into this now having played a LOT more. The changing locales keep things fresh and the repetitive missions don't seem too bad due to the extremely good characters (and the lead character) being engaging and mature as opposed to the satirical GTA characters. I just wonder where Rockstar go next with their open world games. Surely there has to be more variety in the pipeline with missions. From GTA 3 to this, the escort/kill/stalk/deliver etc structure can't surely stand another outing?! Played some online too - not really sure how to posse up or do co-op missions as tw@s online keep on just shooting me. Really annoying when it is even the person on your team. Maybe its better to have a real group of friends rather than random folk to meet online. Any tips for making the online world better? What are the best game types etc... What are the best game types etc... It is usually better to join a posse with mates, because you are more likely to not be shot/killed by them. Except my mate, who if you just point a gun at him may decide to shoot you for doing that. I have joined random posse's and have accepted randoms to my posse, only to have them either shoot me or blow me up. Which has resulted in the remaining posse targetting him instead. Download the free "Outlaws to the End" DLC, it contains co-op only missions which does make you work as a team to get the job done. It is great fun, and addictive as well. I say this, so are the gang hide-outs in "Free Roam" but they get boring after doing the same one 3 or so times. Capture the Bag is good, very addictive in my opinion. Have played this with Wolfy and Ellie and have had a lot of fun (they usually contain a duel as well) I heard the communication between people online is limited to the area(s) where you are (as in you are in East Mexico and can only talk to peeps in the same area)
Sheikah Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I heard the communication between people online is limited to the area(s) where you are (as in you are in East Mexico and can only talk to peeps in the same area) I'm not sure of the controls on the 360, but on the PS3 if you hold up on the D-pad you can broadcast to everyone in the game (it comes up with a speaker icon at the bottom left).
Jimbob Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Even more DLC coming this year. Red Dead DLC It seems a mix of single and multi-player stuff, sounds interesting. Especially the last one.
Strange Cookie Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 (edited) I finally picked it up (on PS3 :p), and it's better than I had expected. Outshines GTA4 in every way, IMO. I even like the online, something I usually only do with Guitar Hero Rock Band, except for... Bloody. Effing. Spawnkillers. Those are a real bane of existence. It's great to go on a stroll, join the occasional band-clearing shootout, or even engage in a gentlemen's mano-vs-mano. But these spawskillers... I've already quit several sessions because they aggravate me beyond pisspoint. And why, oh, why do they always got to have a headset. Online-jerks if ever there were some. I don't mind dying. It's part of the game... if you stick to the game. Edited July 9, 2010 by Strange Cookie

It's part of the game... if you stick to the game. To be honest there is really little such thing as spawn killing in this game. If you're getting killed by people it's likely because they have better weapons due either having picked them up from a gang hideout (you keep them for the whole online session, even if you die) or because they're a higher level (have good weapons permanently). When you respawn you're at no advantage nor disadvantage to killing someone. They don't know where you'll spawn in relation to them, and you don't know where they'll be in relation to you. Actually, that last part isn't exactly true since they'll be in the same place as where they killed you so in actuality you have a slight advantage (and they're maybe still damaged if you managed to hit them). You also restock all ammo, which is handy for stuff like dynamite (of which you get only 2) and sniper bullets (you get 10 if I remember correct). It's all practice, practice, practice. The only real exception to everything I said is that people who get lots of kills without dying get their dead eye meter refilled, but that's fairly negligible when you consider most don't even use it.
