Haden
[PS3] BioShock (Spike) - 1,500 / NEW Wow what the fuck! Honestly I wonder if they are going to sell enough copies to cover the staff that had to translate the game into japanese those numbers are abysmal! lol alone in the dark is even worse! At least that game kind of deserved it.
khilafah
Phantasy Star Zero (Sega) - 86,000 / NEW way lower than expected. That needs to pick up sales over next few weeks.

Sheikah
Wow what the fuck! That is insane. It's weird because we embrace both American and Japanese games, but it seems that the Japanese wouldn't know a good foreign game if it smacked them in the face. The japanese market is very very weird, but let's face it, Bioshock is totally taylored for western audiences, it's not like quirky jap games sell well here either. Although I don't know how White Knight turned out it seems to be a great game, so great to see it on top, not that it's a big surprise. Good numbers all around. jammy2211
White Knight Chronicle sales are good - most sales then any Xbox 360 RPG in Japan in just the first week. Hopefully it'll hold some legs for a few weeks and get to about 400k-500k lifetime in Japan. Would be awesome if Level 5 'offer' themselves to Sony like they said they would if it was successful, or something. But yeah, not much really to speak about in Japan nowadays. Weird that PSP still sells software over there though.
D_prOdigy
Glad to see No. 19 holding on in there. 200k for WKC is predictably respectable. It was never going to blow a hole in the charts, partly because of the lukewarm review in Famitsu, but mostly due to PS3's relatively humble user base. Then again, it's a Level 5 game so it was guaranteed some success. Would be awesome if Level 5 'offer' themselves to Sony like they said they would if it was successful, or something. That ship has well and truly come and gone. Level 5 have really diversified themselves over the past couple of years, creating surprise success stories like Inazuma on DS, not to mention they're probably going to end up with one of the best selling games of 2009 in the form of Dragon Quest IX. Oh, and Prof Layton for Christ's sake. There's really nothing to be gained by going second party in Sony's favour anymore. You can see a similar shift in focus with Nippon Ichi too. Weird that PSP still sells software over there though. Well, it's pretty damn normal that a PS3 RPG sells more than a 360 one :P Only big name PSP games sell though, which is a shame. I don't own a PSP nor am I a huge fan, but from what I see, it's still a good platform that has games that deserved to sell more (although I'm pulling this out of my ass cause I don't know the numbers :P). James McGeachie
Is that really RIZ-ZOAWD's first week sales? Has Japan really fallen to a degree where unique looking new RPG's mean absolutely nothing to them...? Or does the DS really have such a bizzare market that despite half the population of Japan or something having one, barely any hardcore gamers play it. It feels like all that matters over there now is sequels, ports and casual games.

Well compared to the DS anything in competition with it sales wise will look bad but as of august last year it has sold over 40 million unit so yeah not too shappy in my opinion.
