Now this is interesting...

That companion card game is out on the 3DS eShop. Look what appears on an EU 3DS when someone Streetpasses with a copy of the Japanese game...

It's in English!

Normally Japanese games would display the game's name in Japanese when someone streetpasses it with a foreign console, but a few games that had upcoming English versions display the English title instead (Dobitsu No Mori 3DS displays "Animal Crossing New Leaf" on US and EU 3DS consoles through Streetpass for instance)

English localisation confirmed? I hope so!

Edit: It gets even more interesting! Supposedly, the guy who made this discovery said that this has only just recently changed!

Before just now, the game displayed the Japanese name when streetpassing a foreign console, but just now it has changed to display the English name instead!

No it was in Japanese previously, even double checked with colleagues in the office if they had the game in English previously and they told me it was in Japanese.

I like where this is going :)

That Slime keyboard is pretty cool. I like the Roman numerals for the number pad. Thought about importing it, but it's pretty expensive, the F keys looks a bit impractical as well...

English localisation confirmed? I hope so!

Hype levels +9999! Entered High Hype mode!

Certainly seems odd they would update the Streetpass title for no reason. "Morph De Battle" sounds French or something. Edit: Just found out the Japanese title is "Odekake Moshasu de Battle", doesn't seem as odd now. Why haven't I heard of this before? Might download it tonight, but seems pointless without DQX.

I always thought there would be a good chance we would get the Wii U version, it was just a matter of when.

Just need a EU/US Dragon Quest themed Nintendo Direct with DQX, DQVII and DQM announcements!

As a side note, Terry's Wonderland and Dragon Quest VII both street pass in English, however Terry's name is abbreviated and VII only says Dragon Quest VII, no subtitle.

Have you noticed it changing from Japanese text to English text recently? (Like what that guy mentioned)

As far as I can recall, it's always Morph de Battle as I always remember thinking "Ahh, these Japs and how they find foreign languages cool.."

EDIT: Whilst I'm here, figured I'd confirm that Dragon Quest VII appears in English

FURTHER EDIT: I went back to the last time I encountered some one who recently played this game, which was 2 months ago and it's in English. Streetpass doesn't retroactively change as far as I'm aware, but it doesn't disprove the fact that it might be coming overseas.

Gladiator looks pretty cool.

It's rated PEGI 12. I'm assuming they can't just make up PEGI ratings?

They've put in a lot of work if it isn't real. There's a load of (Japanese) screenshots in there. Unless someone at Amazon.fr is just a big DQ fan?

Yeah, hopefully. PC version shares the same servers so you can use the same characters. Very least we get a fan patch.

Signed up for the Beta. Forgot I already had a Japanese SE account.

Oh snap, looks like the Beta is available now. Downloading...

Appears it's region locked so VPN is required.

US/EU release confirmed..? Maybe?

You may not have noticed, but Dragon Quest 10, the MMORPG installment in the most beloved role-playing series in Japan, is approaching its first birthday. The game first came out on the Wii in August 2, 2012, with a Wii U port hitting Japanese stores in late March. An English-language release still isn't anywhere in sight, but Square Enix surprised more than a few people a week or two when it announced that a PC port is in the works.

Why put DQ10 out on PC? "I'm sure a lot of people were surprised," producer Yosuke Saito told Famitsu magazine, "but the drive to release a PC version was there from the start of DQ10 development. The biggest reason was that, when thinking about which platform was most likely to be connected to a network, the PC was the first that popped into our minds. We also live in an era where there's nearly one PC for every household, and for people who grew up with Dragon Quest, PCs have been a natural part of their entire lives. We figured it wouldn't seem unnatural."

Executive producer Yuu Miyake also brought up the more practical, financial side of running a successful MMO. "One thing I can say," he said, "looking across the series from DQ8 onward, is that the business model of creating a retail package and releasing it exclusively on a single platform has become difficult to execute. Gamers' play styles and tastes are getting segmented, and we can't settle on a single platform. We're also in an era where trying to make back development costs on a title good enough to be part of the main story is getting more difficult with the traditional business model. We have to build a new business model, one that doesn't end with a retail package being purchased. So, when we decided to have DQX be an MMORPG, it was decided it'd be available for a monthly rate. Our direction was to center the game on a console that anyone can pick up and play, then gradually expand out to other platforms."

The big question behind the PC port for us non-Japanese folk, however: Does this mean an overseas release is in the works? "Of course," Miyake said. "However, as for whether it'll be run in the Dragon Quest style in the overseas market, every nation has its own play style and sensibilities, so I don't think it'll be a single game worldwide like with Final Fantasy 11."

"This is just my personal viewpoint," added Saito, "but different countries consume their games at different speeds and the way the communities are run also differ. Even the way people enjoy seasonal events is different, so I think we need to divide the running of it by country or region. So we're thinking about having separate servers for each country."

What is Saito's ultimate aim for DQ10, whose PC port comes out in Japan this September? "In the end, I think it'd be great if we made it a place where Dragon Quest fans could come together," he replied. "We'll naturally need to continue adding new stories to tell and new bosses to defeat, but it can't just be that. We need to continue having it be a place where people who like Dragon Quest can be comfortable. I'm sure we'll have DQ11 and DQ12 going into the future, but in parallel with that, I'd like to have a world within DQ10 where we can tell stories from DQ11 and DQ12. I think it'd be great if we could keep DQ10 going for even ten or twenty years."

Now this is interesting...

As a follow up to this discussion, the "Handy Tool"'s title also appeared in English when I StreetPassed myself.

Obviously I don't know if this changed at any point since I just downloaded it Saturday. Didn't check my StreetPasses until last night.

I'm still gutted this hadn't arrived over here yet. It would have been the perfect time sink while we were waiting for other games to be released. :(

While we are at it, where is DQ7 at?

Would have been great during the Wii U's game drought, missed a trick there Nintendo/SE. Not that it's everyone's cup of tea of course.

It's really weird they've hinted at a localisation a number of times but still not formally announced anything.

As for DQ7, I reckon next year after Bravely Default. Unless Nintendo is holding back a lot of titles, there doesn't seem to be much announced for the 3DS for next year.

Move over Luigi, 2014 is Year of the Slime. :peace:

Oooh, snap. Just seen this on NoA's twitter.

Cloud streamed!? Oh boy...

It's gonna play like hot steaming garbage...

Surely the 3DS could run this game properly! It's not like we haven't already seen Wii ports hit the console that run absolutely fine...

I feel like this game has been dominating Dragon Quest for too long. DQ IX was released in 2009 (2010 for Europe), which to me feels like an age away. After we eventually found out about DQ X, it was released on:

Wii - 2012

Wii U - 2013

Windows - 2013

Android - 2013

3DS - 2014

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Quest_X

It's understandable they want to make their money back from this experiment, but I long for the day when Dragon Quest gets back on track and (from a development perspective) leaves this MMO behind.

To be fair, it was around 5-6 years going from DQ8-9 and about 3-4 years from DQ7-8 so it's not really outside of the norm (in fact, the gap between DQ9-10 was actually extraordinarily small).

Plus the 3DS & smartphone "versions" shouldn't really count since they're just streamed videos of the PC version. They're not really actual versions of the game...

That being said, at this point I'm just worried about S-E turning DQ11 into some sort of F2P garbage... Wouldn't surprise me one bit, knowing them...
