Choze Posted September 25, 2009 Author Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) Yeah negative kd sucks. Sometimes you get a terrible team. Horrible objectives and ruthless opponents. Yesterday Was boring and weak on acquisition Maybe because I was playing with noobs. Today I see icons Everywhere people really using their unlocks. I see mnes on roads, jamming etc. Squad leaders who are using visual objective via dpad well etc. For those confused I, ll post a guide. Without training I think many people are being thrown in the deep end. As an ex pc bf player this is a natural progression. The objectives are there to help you win. I am unlocking the commando and awareness type abilities. So I can detect explosives and sneak around. Faction isn't too important. You can change later so just stick to one and level up. Leveling up is key as it's an open class game. Edited September 25, 2009 by Choze
Aimless Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I don't think the game's bad by any stretch of the imagination, it's just aimed at a fairly specific demographic, namely all the people who play/ed SOCOM. (Which, in case you're wondering, does not include me.) I've had a lot of fun with it when I'm with a good team, the leaders being on top of setting pertinent objectives and such, but if the people you're playing with aren't coordinated then it can quite easily lead to a scenario where you're spending more time running to the frontline than actually doing any fighting. It's very much a game designed for the type of players who want to roll into games together as a squad or a clan, and just having a few people around using voice chat to flag concerns or raise awareness can give their team a huge edge. I'm giving SVER a try at the moment, partly because I specced my Raven soldier as a sniper which simply doesn't seem as useful as someone with a slew of assault rifle upgrades and it was quicker to re-roll than earn enough re-spec points to change things around. I might give Valor a try tonight, though, just to complete the collection.
dwarf Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I'm just rolling through the assault upgrades for Valor. The stamina thing for sprinting pisses me off, there's no need for that 'realism'. It just serves to piss players off when they mess up a respawn or have no choice but to do a cross country. I'll play the thing more up to the close of the beta, and by the end I can probably determine if it's likely that I'll buy it. Both Uncharted and MAG betas have seemed to improve in enjoyment area the more I play. It dawned on me recently that I probably won't be able to buy Uncharted 2 on launch day because my system will be broken. Argh.
MATtheHAT Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I doubt I will be picking it up on release day, its pretty good, and quite impressive with 256 players. The rest of it just seems a bit generic to me.
Choze Posted September 26, 2009 Author Posted September 26, 2009 (edited) Two MAG guides: http://community.eu.playstation.com/playstationeu/board/message?board.id=bEN_Games_MAG&message.id=8436#M8436 http://www.nextgenboards.com/vb/370788-post1.html Should really help those who are confused. I am still learning more things myself. But those are several basics. I am not surprised they are testing Acquisition as its the one many teams fail at. I did two games yesterday where we were spawn camped. I did ok but acuisition is more punishing it comes to no team work. Hope we do other ones next as its beent he same the past few days(probably for testing) I have all the radar type unlocks and several other stuff here and there. My assault gun is fairly stable and doesnt shake much. Using crosshairs not red dot or scopes :p Perefer it that way. I am also eligible to be a squad leader now. You can definately count on me giving good orders. Edited September 26, 2009 by Choze
MATtheHAT Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Anybody picking this up on Friday? I'm contemplating it now, I know I said I probably wouldn't, but I'm feeling a bit burnt out on CoD.
Emasher Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 After playing the Beta, I really don't care for this at the moment. I might pick it up when it inevitably reaches $29.99 like SOCOM, and Warhawk both did, but even then, it will just be all the competitive people playing it, and might not even be worth picking up then either. I think MW2 will do for me until Bad Company 2 comes out. At that point, I have a feeling MW2 will leave my console for a very long time.
Daft Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 This might be the game that makes getting into the online after the initial wave actually possible, tbh.
dwarf Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Anybody picking this up on Friday? I'm contemplating it now, I know I said I probably wouldn't, but I'm feeling a bit burnt out on CoD. I won't be. I was fairly excited about getting into the beta but it just wasn't that great in ll honesty. There will still be a lot of bugs when its released. I'm doing the same as Emasher, except BC2 isn't really replacing any online FPS I have.
Tyson Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I loved the beta of this, but I was so hyped up about MW2 that I assumed it'd just be a shitter version of it so I decided to buy that instead. In hindsight Modern Warfare was waaaay overhyped, it feels so claustrophobic and repetitive compared to my experience with MAG. The one good thing about MW2 however is that I know it'll maintain its original value for a good ammount of time, so I can just sell it when I don't need it anymore, something less true of MAG. I reckon I'll wait till I can find it second hand.
Karl619 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 It's annoying how they put betas up for a limited amout of time! I totally forgot about it and missed the cut off point. It seems like a game I'd love but want to see some reviews first
dwarf Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 IGN 7.6/10 At the start the review sounded really positive, and scrolling down I was surprised to see the average review score. I'm not surprised at the score looking at it from my perspective though. http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/106/1063592p2.html
Karl619 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 That reviews postive on the whole though..right?...right? RIGHT!?!?! I hope so having preordered it
dwarf Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 It's going to be a competent but character-less shooter. It's guarenteed to have an unlimited amount of playability if you're into it, so any FPS player will likely have a good time spent levelling up.
MATtheHAT Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I thought it had a lot of character, in the sense that you are assigned to a particular faction, with a meta shadow war game that you get quite interested in. Which helps you believe you're fighting for something. Not just Blue vs Red or Spetsnaz vs Force Recon, which changes on a game by game basis. Also, higher ranking players can become squad leaders, commanders and OIC's, which, if you're in a competent team with good communication, makes the game so much better. Of course it all boils down to the community, if they back it and regularly fill matches, then it could be something special. Thats why I'm not really looking at the early reviews, this game needs to grow with the PSN community to fully appreciate the game the way it is intended.
Karl619 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 got this today and I have to say its better than what I thought it would be! Gotta play it some more to get a fuller impression ... Has anyone set up a clan for this? If so can I be a trialist? If not ! let's make one!
MATtheHAT Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Just ordered this from ShopTo. Can't wait to get into it and start leveling up again. I'm thinking about going Raven first, I was SVER in the beta but it seems everyone has chosen SVER now due to pre-order bonus's, and they are dominating. Also, I've had a quick look at the Trophies, and I don't think I will be getting the Platinum on this anytime soon.
dwarf Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 If they're anything like the Socom ones.... Have you bought every FPS since time 'Hat?
MATtheHAT Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 You know me, I'm a sucker for shiny new FPS games.
dwarf Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 You're ranked bloody high on that trophy site. How many people have you killed in order to reach your position?
MATtheHAT Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 (edited) Its only a small leaderboard, and I only joined the site because I liked the Trophy Card. Took me ages to find the right Avatar though.... Speaking of Avatars, where's yours? Also, some of the Trophies seem difficult, and time consuming.... dwarf Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Was going to make a new one but couldn't be bothered, so just copied the grey colour and used it to have a plain space. I would get someone to make me one but wouldn't know what to ask for.
Daft Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 So we were winning a domination match and the OIC(officer in charge) comes on and says "all soldiers at the 5 minute mark meet back at the objective letters for pictures". So all of us on the map leave the front lines and met up in the back field and i got some good pictures SVER for life!!Special Shout out to the OIC ContraBanJoe for making this happen!! Ha! That looks pretty awesome.
Oxigen_Waste Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Why does SVER always win? And why does it never feel like there's more than 20 people playing? I liked the idea behind this, but I wasn't happy tonight.
