Since everyone's doing it, my fav Nirvana songs:

About A Girl

School

Sliver

In Bloom

Breed

Territorial Pissings

Heart-Shaped Box

I don't actually own In Utero, I only have Nevermind and Nirvana. I used to have Bleach, but then I lost it, found it, but was broken. :(

When you say Nirvana, do you mean the best of album?

And to add to what's already been said (!), I completely agree that it's people who have only heard Smells Like Teen Spirit and possibly a few other commercial Nirvana songs that will think Kurt was a bad musician. Personally, I think he's one of the best songwriters ever to have graced our planet, and I know this will cause a huge debate, but the amount of emotion and energy he put into his lyrics fascinates me.

If I were to list my favourite Nirvana songs, most of their stuff would be here. They're my favourite band, it's just a shame I was only a baby when Kurt died so I never got to appreciate them until recently. Still, some of my favourites are, in no particular order:

In Utero

Heart-Shaped Box

Serve The Servants

Radio Friendly Unit Shifter

Rape Me

Nevermind

Drain You - Nevermind

Come As You Are - Nevermind

Then there are the demos, such as Verse Chorus Verse, You Know You're Right (also on the best of album) and the beautiful Do Re Mi.

I do like some songs from Bleach, but I'm not going to say I love the album as much as In Utero (which is my favourite as I feel Kurt's songwriting really came into its own by that point) just to sound knowledgeable. A lot of people are all "Oh yeah, Bleach is their best album, innit!" and if they think so, that's great, but if it's just to sound like they 'know' Nirvana then there's no point!

Kurt was a pretty great lyricist. Fave Nirvana songs:

About A Girl

Dive

Aneurysm

Lithium

Lounge Act

Smells Like Teen Spirit (even though it's overplayed, it's still a lot of fun)

Heart Shaped Box

Serve The Servants

Pennyroyal Tea

Polly

You Know You're Right.

That's some fairly vacant hyperbole to be honest with you.

I was talking to my driving instructor today about music and he told me that he went to see Nirvana live. Then I told him about his ashes being stolen. He thinks some die hard Nirvana fan smoke them to try and imbibe some of his spirit. Then he started saying about how awesome the word imbibe was.

So I heard that Dave Grohl is going to spread out Kurt's ashes in the crowd at tonights gig.

If he had, it would have been the best gig ever, fact. Still getting Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones out to play the encore was pretty fucking awesome.

To you, what defines a "lyrical genius" is putting Arnie quotes in their music. And the theme to Ghostbusters.

*dun dun dundundun duuun duun*

Arnie's Pizza's closed,

And you can't GET DOWN!!!

Who you gonna call?

JOHN KIMBLE!

*theme continues*

*applaud*

Thanks ladies and gentlemen, I'll be back tomorrow.

...

No but really, I'd like to see that be done.
